I kind of agree with that. And I would have no problem using both of our current QB's in the same game. I think it would confuse the hell out of D's. So many options for us. Slash time again. And I'm pretty sure Fields would have no problem with the role.

On "Unsportsmanlike" this morning, they had Mike Tannebaum on a guest spot, and he presented a stat that surprised me. The Steelers have averaged 11 more points per game through the first 6 games this season than the Jets. Yes, without Davante Adams BUT with a still much more competent WR group overall than Pittsburgh. Carry on.

Either MT is factoring in some defensive TDs or he is wrong. By my math its a touch less than 3 points per game. And they had a game in pretty nasty weather.

In the red zone I'd suspect they'd use him, since that's how we've been scoring out TD's.

The past is usually a very good indicator of the future, particularly when it comes to pro athletes.
Everyone knows who Wilson is at this point and what his strengths and weaknesses are.
It's also well known he's getting older and his skills are deteriorating.

For the record, I don't think Fields looks any different here than he did with the Bears. He's the same guy, the only difference is Tomlin has turned him into a game manager.
His turnovers are way down, but so are his TD's.
Fields is a mediocre passer and he always will be. Combined with his running ability, he's serviceable. He's not going to march down the field and win many games though.
I'm not sure Wilson is better at this point though.

    Time will tell I guess.

Well because you are allowed to make errant passes and still have shown growth.

His accuracy is a career best, his turnovers way down, has 10 TD’s to 2 interceptions, a 2.8% turnover worth play percentage, same as CJ Stroud and completing 62% of his passes under pressure, 10th best in the league.

To pretend he hasn’t improved and shown growth is disingenuous.

That’s not the same as playing awful and deserving of being benched when the team is 4-2 coming off a strong offensive performance.

People can pretend this is normal all they want but it’s not.

I am not invested in either Fields or Wilson, neither are the long term answer at QB. The future of the Steelers at the position is not currently on the roster.

I felt they should have stayed with Fields simply for consistency but can see why they want to go to Wilson. They want more out of the passing game. The question will be if the O-Line can protect an aging and less mobile Wilson.

I suppose they have to take the risk because the lack of offensive production, this team is not a serious contender with the current output. It could backfire as well.

I don’t think anyone thinks it is normal

Some people think it’s a bad idea

Some people think it’s a good idea

The coaching staff think it’s a good idea

I’ll watch the game Sunday and see how it goes

The Jets have 1 defensive TD, so they are averaging around 17.8 PPG, which is 4 PPG less than our offense.

Its all we can do. My hopes are high and expectations low. I hope the outcome is more towards what I am hoping happens rather than what I think is going to happen haha

I agree with all of this. I still think we should have given the rest of the year to Fields and see if he is worth investing any more of our future in rather than just hoping Russ can bring more to the table.

There is a lot of hope (both in the coaching staff and the board here) that Russell is going to revamp our passing game and turn it into a threat. This is the same guy that averaged 204 yards passing a game last season (only 20 more yards a game better than Fields has averaged so far this season) and was handsomely paid by Denver for the opportunity to kick him to the curb. I certainly don't understand the optimism in Russ' passing ability, but I'm hoping it works out all the same. I'd rather be "wrong" and have him play well enough to get us to 6-2 at the bye, than be "right" and see us lose one or both of the next two games.

To pretend he doesn't still show many of the same weaknesses that have plagued him his entire career is disingenuous. He has fumbled the ball six times in six games. He is still struggling to read defenses. He is still throwing the ball too late. He is still having stretches where he loses his mechanics, which lead to problems with accuracy. He has traded poor fourth quarters for poor starts, but the result is he still has long stretches when he is not productive. The drop in turnovers is due to the conservative offensive approach as much as anything he has done better. He has five touchdown passes. He didn't need to grow as a runner, so the 10 total touchdowns you included there don't help us.

Most importantly, he has been trending in the wrong direction the last few two weeks. He had arguably his worst game passing against a Raiders team that was in total disarray.

It's not only not normal, it has never happened before. No healthy QB has ever had his team 4-2 and lost his job. At least not in the Superbowl era.

What if just what if the one thing that will change is Mike Tomlin? If we actually open the offense up more and start pushing the ball downfield more that will open up the run game. Perhaps Tomlin will have more confidence in Wilson and not be so conservative on offense.

You’re not grasping this. He’s shown real growth but you keep acting like he should be a finished product after 6 games of trying to develop him.

Saying he has improved doesnt mean he is perfect or that he doesnt still have weaknesses.

All this todo about a QB change. Some fans are acting like the Steelers are benching a top 5 or 10 QB. Fact: Fields is middling. The offense is middling. The expectation for this season is not middling. A QB change is justified unless your goal is 0.500 ball or worse, because the Steelers are about to run the gauntlet of teams that have an offense AND a defense.
Also check Fields' third quarter stats. The 'money quarter' is his worst, especially on 3rd downs.
