The reality is both Porter and Kazee screwed up.

Also most of us are saying finally this kid gets a chance due to the garbage we have playing the corner position. Porter unfortunately is not the savor but I feel he is the best to be out there. He is going to make mistakes. At least the kid stood there and admitted it.

Players make mistakes. Rookies are more prone to mistakes than experienced vets.

My first reaction was that Porter was playing “squat” technique (that’s what we used to call it) where he sits in the flat and releases the #1 receiver to the safety over top if it’s a vertical route.

Looked like Porter thought they were in cover 2 or cover 4 while Kazee thought it was cover 3 or cover 1 and he was free to bite. We used to call it “robber” not sure what these young whipper-snappers call these things today lol.

These guys in the pros run so many exotic coverages, and will sugar it by showing a cover 2 shell and rolling into cover 3 at the snap, etc. that it’s hard to tell really.

Either way it was a miscommunication and it’s good that the kid took ownership.
