Why does the media refer to Matakevich to as undersized?

Matakevich isn't 6'1 he's more like 5'11 and not very athletic. That's why he gets compared to Zach Thomas another undersized ILB. Moats isn't 6'0 he's more like 6'3.

Some of those have to be wrong. No way is Timmons only 234, same with Williams. Shazier and Harrison have gotta be a little higher too.

Either way I think they mean he's undersized for what he is. He isn't one of those ultra athletic "safety like" ILB's that teams are starting to fall in love with, he's more of a 2 down tough guy that is savvy and knows where he's supposed to be. Hes the same size as the "fast/hybrid" guys, but much slower.

NFL rosters rarely have accurate weights for players. The Steelers tend to just list players' rookie weights for their entire careers. I remember Hampton was 325 for a decade of expanding waistline.

At the NFL Combine they measure the players' height and their weight. The following is taken directly from the NFL Combine stats.

    Tyler Matakevich 6' 238
    Ryan Shazier 6' 1" 237
    Arthur Moats 6' 246
    Vince Williams 6' 247
    Lawrence Timmons 6' 1" 234

You may want your heros to be bigger but they are not!

This. All players have their issues. He is a throwback type player, always around the ball, high motor. Glad the kid made the cut.

I'm more worried about Big Red's speed than his size.

Vince Williams was a little slow coming out, and dropping weight this year has helped him. Maybe there is hope?

Man did you see Red pop that man on the punt? Fired up is not the word for it! Motor, motor, motor!

For a team that swears it values tackling, it would have been hypocritical to cut probably one of the best ones on the team.

Temple is hurting this year without him! 101/137/117/138 tackle numbers through college and watching tape he was posting double digits against the top tiered teams they faced.

    Football Player!
