Archer got like one play for a dive....and everyone said...see he sucks!

Archer needs to see the ball 5 times a game in my opinion...and just enough on hand offs or reverses to keep a D honest...he should live in the flats and 5 yard slants.

Archer did not draft himself in the 3rd round...the Steelers did (and I feel will be looked like a good value when Archer is all said and done)
Archer did not only call his number 1 time a game...the Steelers did

So if you want to play the Steelers know what they are doing game....then yes...the Steelers have benched Archer...but the Steelers also saw something worth drafting in the 3rd round.

:this!: Why are we having such a hard time getting him the touches he needs in space? I realize there are only so many plays to go around but we have to try to get him involved somehow.

I would normally agree with the assessment about what they saw when they were drafting. My question would be is it the same thing they saw when they drafted Landry? I really think even IF Archer turns out to be an ok player it still isn't worth it considering how much depth we lack on defense. I have no problem with Archer necessarily. It is the lack of depth I have a problem with. Do you foresee Archer ever being able to maintain his feet after contact? That will be the real tell tale thing with him.

Tomlin's explanation on why Archer was inactive,

"It was the best mix for us today. We had some defenders coming back today. We got some significant special teams contributors. We didn’t want to lessen that. They have a dangerous kicking game. The net punting, the net punt return was really a field flipper. We wanted to respect that. They have dangerous return men in Tate and Jones. We allocated the bodies in that area."

archer is what he is. he's not Darren sproles. that comparison is really not apples to apples. sproles is stout, just short. archer is speed and not a guy that's going to break tackles. he's a guy that will run by people through the line before they can react.

he was also picked near the 4th rd. so people saying a wasted 3rd rounder are kind of stretching it. he was a comp pick in the very late 3rd rd. I blame the steelers more for keeping ike and not only keeping ike past his time but starting ike for so long. I'm fairly happy with McCain and blake so far. we were not going to get a starting corner from the late 3rd rd. anyway, so this crap about wasting a spot on a RB instead of a CB is a moot point.

there weren't to many RB's to choose from in free agency last year, so we took a guy with a duel position plus a possible returner. that's 3 spots for one late 3rd rounder. his tape showed him to be capable. he is a rookie don't forget with limited touches in practice and on game day.

We could have gotten a safety though couldn't we? We are hurting there too.

But obviously Troy is on the downward trajectory. Shark has me worried about his durability. Plus if our system takes a master's degree to begin to comprehend shouldn't they go ahead and start drafting more safeties when our other guys still have somewhat left in their tank?

yea, but I'm saying at that point last year in the draft we thought we had that spot covered. golden is a waste to me. I'd like to see the shark playing but he can't stay healthy. that's why I had harris as a draft pick in the draft section of the board. I'm going to pimp him heavily this off season. he's the kid from Virginia. a good safety. always around the ball. we really need sharks speed on that field and hopefully he'll get to where we need him by next year. will allen is not the answer either. I'm still going to pull for cortez at FS by next season. I think that could be his best spot, facing the play.

I really wish we could get Devin McCourty in FA. He's a ball hawk and can play. I'm guessing we can't afford him though. Golden has been good on ST but that's about it.

I think this draft is fairly thin at corner. I believe our best bet to get a starter will be free agency.

McCourty would be a good one. I heard a guy call in today and say we should get some CB from Florida St. Who knows if that guy was just a nut though ya know?

they have two pretty good ones at Fla.St., but I still think our best bet for a starter will be free agency. I like white from TCU too as a possible 4th rounder. not real tall but a good cover guy. I'm still pulling for Richardson to put it together year two also. none of them as starters next year though.

Shaq got straight up cut didn't he? Also the thing about those short corners is they are really sorta iffy now that WRs seem to be getting bigger.

he's on the practice squad IR.

I don't have a problem with shorter guys if they can cover well. if we have all bigger corners than the shorter quicker receivers out quick them. make up speed and quickness with good ball skills go a long way in coverage.

Brady said their walk-throughs are longer than most teams' practices. I'm not sure that's literally true but if we prepared the same way the Pats do and were as well coached we'd be at least 10-3 maybe 11-2 and in total control of our destiny.

It's supposed to be deep on pass rushers (which would help the secondary) and on offensive tackles (which would help Ben). I'd go FA for the secondary and get help up front early in the draft.

Who in FA though? I've pulled for McCourty but TTF said he's a penalty waiting to happen. I really can't think of anyone else that's out there. Maybe Brian Hoyer? I mean he has sure proven he can't play qb. LOL.

No they reached a settlement with Richardson a couple months ago. No longer with the team at this point.
