Trying to figure this out. Harrison has produced. He has been hurt some but nothing like Colon. We have options at guard, but not sure we do at OLB.

    why?

We don't know that they are, I think he will be gone. Theres going to be some purging of this roster, I don't see Colon surviving it.

It's about cap implications. Cutting Harrison saves us $5.1 million against the 2013 cap. Cutting Colon saves us $1.2 million. It really comes down to dollars. If you ignore all of the sunk $$$ that will hit the cap no matter what, and ask yourself 2 questions, what would your answers be: 1) would I sign Harrison to a 1 year, $5.1 million contract?; 2) Would I sign Colon to a 1 year, $1.2 million contract? In pure dollar terms, those are essentially the decisions facing our front office on those 2 players. Granted, it's a little bit more complicated because of the ability to spread the cap hit of a cut over 2013 and 2014 if a guy is cut post-June 1, but those are the economics facing the team at this moment as they try to fit under the cap on 3/12. I don't think you'll find unanimity on this board regarding either of those questions, and I'm sure that there are differing views within the organization.

Ultimately I think that Harrison and the team will agree to something that makes sense for both sides before 4 PM Tuesday. There's room for both sides to make a deal that works. I think Colon hangs around until 2014, and then gets the axe unless he surprises us by being a decent fit in our new zone blocking scheme.

i thought we already made it under the cap for 3/12, even with keeping james for now? why do we have to cut him now? the only reason would be for money to sign our fa's or other fa's wouldn't it?

1.2 doesn't sound like much for colon but we need that 1.2 badly at this point. we have been basicly paying colon dead money for the last 3 years anyway. what's two more?

i'd like to know what the difference is with cutting JH pre june 1, or post june 1? maybe it's as much as just taking JH's big hit this year and colons big hit next year, so we don't get hit with both in one year.

We have to tender our RFAs and (hopefully) be in a position to make a run at Lewis.

    Yup!

Plus just because a player hasn't been cut yet doesnt mean they won't be. Theres a LOT of time between now and the season.

He's a liability in coverage (lost us the TEN game when he couldn't keep pace with Jared Cook) and couldn't stay healthy. I'd much rather have worilds +lewis (ability to shut down AJ Green) than harrison

He's the Outside LB used to RUSH THE QB not cover people.....Talk about setting the edge and getting to the QB....

Duhhhhhh thats what i'm talking about he's an OLB supposed to rush the QB not cover people....I've seen BL split Harrison out on a WR do you expect him to cover a WR too? If the scheme put's him in a bad position how is that his fault? Our OLB'S have historically set the edge and rushed the QB. Not many OLB'S are gonna cover a fast TE or WR ...Thats why the Pat's & 49ers have been successful with there TE's Safety can't even run with those guy's...

if you watch timmons in that vid, he has outside contain for the pass but since nobody came there , he's gotten out of position and is beating feet across the formation to catch up with the play. harrison is supposed to pass the TE off to timmons on that one but he wasen't there. this isn't really JH's fault and actually it's timmons that hurt the play. not to mention giving the titans credit with a perfect play against that defense. they went for the weakspot on the field against what we showed.
