I will take Mason Rudolph over anyone out there right now. I know there is a lot of hype over Paxton Lynch, but he is a big arm without the accuracy and the touch. It has been noted he has a tendency to float passes over the middle and overthrow the long ball. It would be great if he does make a sudden leap. I think a 6'7" QB could be dangerous.

Won't matter who we would like backing up #7.
They are going with MR /DH. I think you will see
a great improvement from last year with Matt Canada coaching them.

Can't think of a tall QB that was any good other than that Manning guy.

Paxton Lynch gets a lot of hype only because people haven’t actually seen him stink in a Steeler uniform yet. We’ve seen Rudolph and Duck both fail spectacularly but Lynch is an unknown commodity to many here.

Harsh truth is that if Ben goes down then we’re donezo. None of these guys are any good.

I haven’t seen a lot if any hype for Paxton. Just that he is a former 1st rd pick that has a shockingly low amount of time logged for a guy taken in the first rd.

The hope is that he succumbed to the pressure of living up to his draft status and will be better now but the reality is he probably just is not very good.

    Hey Stone.

Here is the big issue. TIME. We have many great pieces in place "minus" a reliable/durable QB. We all saw what happened last year when Ben went down. The Defense kept us in most games while our “pretend” Offense struggled consistently. We cannot afford that again. We all know that each season is different from the last. Players come and go. Free Agency, retirement, injuries, personal reasons for leaving the game and so on.

IMO, for the most part, we have 21/22 great-reliable players in place. #22 is Ben. For now, he is ready to go. However, what happens if he goes down for the count again? In all likelihood, we will be watching a rerun of last season. That would again be a travesty. We have a team that has all the pieces in place to win a Super Bowl folks. Once again, our situation (Ben) only re-emphasizes that the QB is the most important position on the team. We all know this story. Again, the fact is that the QB is the most important player on the team. The quality of a team’s QB plain and simply changes the team’s chemistry and their ability to perform. End of story.

I like Mason. I have supported him. However, from what I have seen, he just is not there yet. Duck I am not too sure about. Lynch, I have no idea. If Mason is the next man up, I feel we are in for a repeat of last year. This is not to say that Mason cannot eventually be that guy, I just do not think that he is ready to lead us right here and now. I hope he can if need be. Back to the TIME concept. It is not on our side for reasons i stated at the opening here. We really do have a very, very good team. The “O” is stacked. The “D” is set. We are ready to go folks. Yes we are!

However, if Ben does have a set-back, long or short-term, Mason needs to step in and seamlessly fill his shoes. He did not prove that last year. From my recollection we averaged about one offensive TD per game for the last eight games or so. That is not going to cut it folks. Again, the reason we were still “significant” is because of the Defense. What makes it worse is that there were no Spring OTAs and no Preseason. Therefore, Mason’s growth along with Duck’s and Lynch’s, have only further been stunted. Not good! Even Ben's growth has been stunted with those players that he has never worked with.

Bottom line, our season rides on Ben. That is why I was such a big advocate to go and get Andy Dalton. He knows the division. He has a very good track record against the browns and the rats. He has very good career statistics. Some argued his price tag. Well, that became a non-factor as we all saw it drop from a supposed 17 million to a mere 3 million that he signed for with the cowturds. Also, him not wanting to be a back-up was a fallacy as well; since that is his role behind Dak. The story was he chose Dallas to be close to home. The Steelers should have gone out and “courted” him. They surely could have done better than what Dallas is giving him. Look, IMO everyone has a “price”. Well, here is to the Black & Gold and good health for all as we move ahead.

Well by “hype” I of course mean relative to the backup discussion. None of these guys get hype.

Neither did your statement about Ben last season, he played 2 games and wasn't healthy.

The same pain he said he had for the prior 15 seasons. The video showed the play he injured his elbow on way back when, and the play he injured it on in 2019.

I think without a doubt Bens elbow has been the cause of his many wonky passes in the last couple seasons. The floaters, the way high passes and others not even in the zip code of the receiver and horrible interceptions.

And no, it wasn’t the usual errant stuff by Ben, these were all passes that left us scratching our heads.

Uhhhhhhh, He said he's had pain for years! Fitchner said he was forever, shaking his arm after throws, trying to get the feeling back, but no more....Sounds like it might have been bothering him for slightly more than 2 games
