Because here he would have the opportunity to build around a QB not yet on our roster and not be fired in the next 2 years because of the current QB situation.

I was going to say a lot like what MT walked into back in 2006. Cowher was burnt out and his wife was sick so he made a personal decision to leave and they took a shot with an unknown. It worked for a few years but was clear some time ago it was time to move on.

But they weren't head coaches. Noll was actually on the Chargers coaching staff. I don't follow college ball so, I don't know of any promising college coaches.

The coach that the Steelers selection committee picks. They will have a lot more information than I have. I do want someone other than Mike Tomlin.

I wouldn't hate giving Kliff Kingsbury a shot.

He got better every year till his fourth year when they lost their last 7 games because Murray went out for the year. They were using David Blough and Trace McSorley for hevans sake. Then they fire him after just extended him. Something never seemed right about that to me.

Look what he's done with a rookie QB this year.

Mike is a great orator and the cliches that the media love swayed the Steelers management who I think were gonna go with Whiz. The media loves the cliches and laughs about them but they miss the issues we as fans who watch them every week see. I think about when Pat Riley first took over the Lakers he was trying to be a players coach then realized that wouldn't work and it was his way or the highway. The players hated it to a degree but there is no way they became as successful as they became without Riley pushing them beyond what they thought they could do.

I truly believe the players love playing for Tomlin but that doesn't mean you are pushing them to be the best they can be. The players are paid millions in some cases so its no longer a child's game but a profession so f the "We gotta have fun crap", it's your profession, approach it that way and be maniacal about it. But that's what separates, Jordan, Brady, Woods, Gretzky, etc from others. How bad do you want to win! Too many Steelers players want the money badly but how many want to put forth the effort at all costs to win, not for their next contract but to win!! Todays athlete but couple that with a soft lax locker room style that Tomlin employs then you get the Big Ben behavior, AB, Legarrett, Santonio, George Pickens, etc that just erodes the team from the common goal of winning. This is why I don't believe Mike will ever lead this team to the promised land again. He will never develop the players into the mindset that he inherited with Troy, Clark, Harrison, etc from Cowher that already knew how to prepare and held themselves accountable to each other. We have to play almost perfect ball to overcome poor game planning and at times clock management and in game baffling coaching decisions. Against the better coached teams we come up short too many times.

I said it before and I will say it again, I don't know who to go get, but we've gone out and hired new head coaches before. Do your due diligence and hire the next guy you think is ready and aligns with your vision of the teams identity you want.

Don’t you think you want a head coach who can actually learn the playbook

Don’t you think you want a head coach who can take personal responsibility

    Don’t you think…..

Next coach will be a young coach in his 30s and most likely a DC.

    @steelersrule6@steelersrule6

So you're telling me that Ben Johnson would chose a Chicago or Las Vegas over Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh would offer him years of stability and a chance to grow whilst the former would fire him after 2 seasons.

The only thing preventing him from not coming to Pittsburgh is that Tomlin isn't going anywhere.

But there's no guarantee they can acquire a franchise QB, they always seem to draft in the latter half of the first round you have to give up multiple first round picks and more to move up.

Part of the reason it's not worth talking about Tomlin is signed thru 2027, I don't see Art ll paying off Tomlin and then hiring a new HC.

But you can say the same about the Raiders, Jets, and anyone else but the Bears. These OCs turned HCs historically draft their guy. Hell, Sean Peyton chose Bo Nix over Wilson and guess the secret, he drafted Bo Nix.

Chiefs traded a first and a third to go from 27 to 10 to get Mahomes. The Ravens got Lamar at the end of the first round. Philly got Hurts in the second round and Dallas got Dak in the fourth.

You can get a franchise QB without giving up huge draft capital.

As an aside all of those teams took those guys while they were competitive. They didn’t tank for a better draft pick.

It's easy to like or dislike other coaches, but it's hard to really understand why you like them or dislike them unless you really pay close attention to what they're doing.
The average NFL fan thinks Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the game, because they don't pay close enough attention to see what's going on.
So I'll rhyme off a few names, but I'll admit I don't pay close enough attention to them and there could be issues I'm not aware of.
    I prefer offensive minded coaches.

    Andy Reid
    Kyle Shanahan.
    Sean McVay
    Dan Campbell
    Ben Johnson
    Sean Payton

I think both Harbaugh's are good coaches. Again though, I don't pay close enough attention to their teams to see what's going on. Have the Baltimore Ravens underperformed under Harbaugh or not? They haven't won a SB in a long time. Is that on him or has the team not been good enough and he's done a good job keeping them competitive? I have no idea.

Payton looks to possibly be molding Nix into the next Drew Brees. Nobody knows about longevity or year over year consistency with that kid, but he looks so far, to be the real deal, with a coach that knows how to get him there. JMHO by the way.

But those teams won't have to give up major draft capital like the Steelers would to draft a top 10 QB.
