In a battle of one-loss Super Bowl champions, who would win: the 1976 Oakland Raiders or the 1985 Chicago Bears?

I can hear Howard Cosell's voice saying, "Could Oakland's outstanding offensive line, with the likes of Upshaw and Shell, have protected the immobile one, Kenny the Snake Stabler, against the Bears ferocious pass rush and their 46 defense?

Bears but, the Raiders would have made a much better game of it than N.E. did.

Raiders. Shell & Upshaw would have neutralized Dent. The Bears beat an average Patriots team & the Raiders went through the best team to...ever...play...the...game.

Stabler, Casper, Biletnikoff, Branch would have been to much for da Bears. (See what Marino did to them)
Da Bears had a great season, the Raiders had a great decade except against Pittsburgh.

I took a quick look at the '85, '86 playoffs. In the AFC Divisional round, the Raiders turned the ball over six times against NE as did Miami in the AFC Championship game. It was a case of the Patriots getting hot at the right time. The Raiders beat the Pats in the regular season; Miami split close divisional home wins with NE. The Bears crushed everyone in their path en route to the Lombardi. They shut out both the Giants and Rams and gave up 10 points in the Super Bowl. Having said that, the '76 Raiders were a talented, veteran team that would not be intimidated. Probably would have been a low scoring, extremely physical game.

Jim Mcmahon really make that much of a difference? Raiders would have stopped Sweetness imo.

That year McMahon was pedestrian with a 76 passer rating in 13 games. Just under 2000 yards, 9 td's, 8 int.'s. So yeah, he didn't have to do much with his running game and that defense.
