Hope Mason gets the chance he was robbed of but with tomlin as h.c. it really does not matter who the q.b. is.

I've loved the Mason story, but I am predicting another 4th QTR comeback for Kenny Pickett in the Baltimore game. :)

Funny how in all the Kenny vs Mason debates nobody talks about the 4th QTR Kenny.

I agree that he is not a great player by number one pick standards.... but like, would you be ok with having him as a solid option moving forward? I guess you said you had him behind Mason coming out, but do you still have him as a worse QB than Mason? Because I think Baker is pretty solid, and with a solid running game and some good WR's, I think he would be a great option if available. Tampa may want to re-sign him, but he might look for his money and there is a chance we would be willing to pay.

I have before I think. I think the whole "4th quarter Kenny" thing is just a fluke. I don't think he's clutch or anything, he just happens to play the only good 5-10 minutes of football he plays per game in the 4th quarter some of the time. Not really thinking its going to continue to be a trend.

Or it fits into the theory that the coaches have pounded avoiding turnovers in his head so much it took away his aggressiveness except when he has no choice but to go for it.

Kenny Pickett just needs time away from Canada's offensive schemes to thrive. Rudolph played two great games where the entire Steelers team showed up. Mason was playing with house money, having nothing to lose and free from the restraints of Canada's terrible game plans. Any talk about Rudolph being the long term answer, the same man that lost his starting position to Duck Hodges (who didn't last two years in the league) and was put 3rd on the QB depth chart can't even begin to build a case until A) he faces a real defense (such as the Ravens) and B) he has an opportunity to show he can lead a team to a win in close games / 4th quarter. As for Kenny, he is a winner. He beat the Ravens twice playing in Canada's terrible offense and with one of those wins having barely a running game (77 total rushing yards with 3.5 per carry) and no Pat Freiermuth. As for the team's very first game after Canada... on the road... in Cincinnati... Kenny was one DJ dropped pass in the endzone from having a 25 of 33 (76% completion percentage), 300+ yard, 1 TD, 0 Int win over the Bengals... and the first 400+ yard game since Matt Canada was hired. Mike Tomlin... who made the decision to bench Rudolph for Duck Hodges and made the decision that Rudolph would be our 3rd string QB... can't be trusted to make QB decisions.

It went lousy, of course. But it doesn't make my point any less valid. QB competition equals mediocrity. Competition is good at other positions, but at the QB position, that guy has to be the starter day one of training camp because it affects everyone else on offense.

Are you naming another example of Tomlin sitting the better player on the bench? Or another example of poor communication by Tomlin and creating distractions?

I think the ideal situation would be to re sign Mason. Cut Mitch. and let the new OC develop a 1st round pick to have a true QB competition.

If the talent isn't there in the first couple rounds then sign a FA that might know the new offense we install. Having someone that understands the new offense will be huge in developing every offensive player in practice and on game day. I truly think Kenny's horrible play and Matt Canada has stunted the development of a lot of young players on this offense. Especially the TE's and Pickens. The O-line can run block now but they struggle in pass protection at times. That will improve with a capable QB and a sound offensive scheme.

My opinion rests in todays game and Masons performance. If he is solid again then I doubt Steelers will do anything more than draft a late rounder. If that.

What's the point of going out and getting a 'veteran' signed? To give you what Mason is already producing? That's just stupid.

Unless they could make a blockbuster trade for someone like Justin Herbert, which is very unlikely, I think they should just ride with Rudolph or Pickett. Draft a guy in one of the middle rounds to compete with them. I'm a no go on Wilson, Fields, and Mayfield

I believe Mason could come from behind in the 4th also, to be fair in the 4th qtr comebacks KP lead we were only down 1 score.. I believe

Please take Russell, Fields and Trubisky off.

Pickett should be in a competition and not just be the unquestioned starter.

Not true....I've brought it up many times. I'm not done with KFP. I'm done with just giving Him the job without a real competition....that's all.

No. I still say Mason is better. Again Im not saying Baker sucks. He's a NFL Qb, and an average starter, but He gives us nothing that Mason with that many starts couldn't give us...for less money, and He's already here.

Rudolph has looked good against two weak defenses and will play today against subs. he is average at best.
