I understand they're supposed link but disagree. LSH is mainly a punt returner who had some success in 09' & 10' but dropped off in 11' & 12'. He'll make the 53 for previous mentioned reason but add to that as a back-up punt returner. He could be our punt-returner if no-one wins the job out right. He's as good if not better than JD Woods and Gilbreath.

Dunn is as you described lightening in a bottle and has Great collegiate KR skills. Tomlin has twice had return specialist in Logan & Rossum ( 07' ) so Dunn has a chance but its a true longshot. The other two returners Tomlin kept did both ( KR & PR ) so Dunn will need to do both. If Dunn cannot field punts and make smart decisions there his chances decline sharply. Now if in Pre-season he fails at PR but scores multi times KR I can see Tomlin keeping Dunn solely as a KR and use LSH and/or Gilbreath/woods as a PR.

Has Wheaton ever done any return duties? We need a returner and a PR .

LSH and dunn have almost no punt return expierience. gilreath was pretty good at it in college. wheaton has done some. j.brown has done more punt returning. woods i'm not sure of.

Oopps, Brain Fart! I was thinking LSH was a PR in Arizona, my bad.

Now finding a PR is even more critical during this camp/pre-season!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEY!!! YOUNG GUYS!!!!!!!!!!! If you can do well at returning punts you may get a job here!!!!

Plax Is a longshot to make this team if be surprising if he makes it to the third preseason game

I hope I'm wrong but he doesn't play special teams and I can't see them keeping him as a 5th receiver

If he can prove he can still play, he'd be well worth the 5th spot. With his size and skill set, he wouldn't just be #5 on the depth chart. They could sub out one of the smaller receivers in certain situations, such as near the goal line. The next tallest guy with half a shot of making the team is Justin Brown, and he's only 6'2" and probably headed for the practice squad.

I thought about him, but I'm pretty sure the PS is best case scenario for him. I could be wrong, but I don't see him making the 53.

But yeah, he's 6'5" and runs in the 4.4-4.5 range. That's the same size and a hair faster than a young Plax. Sure would be nice to see him show something. Not a great vertical jump, though.

My dark horse is Victorien. I thought that he improved in his snaps last year, and despite having far fewer camp/practice reps was better on the field than Curtis Brown. I read a few articles over the summer on his background and work ethic, and I think he's the kind of guy who will learn the scheme better than the other bubble guys at corner and find a way to make it on the 53 man roster as a special teamer/5th or 6th corner. It would be pretty unsurprising if he bumps Brown in camp.

I'll take this in a different vein, someone I think is a long shot to make it that others might think is a lock. I'll go with Alameda Ta'amu. I think he gets beat outright by Hebron Fangupo. Ta'amu being injured certainly doesn't help his situation either.

Reports are that Ta'amu lost 27 pounds and gained "good" size in his upper body. Hamstring or not, he seems to be headed in the right direction.

Brown's not going anywhere this year. He's still arguably the best special teams player we have. Plus, I think he'll make a jump this year in his CB play. Just a hunch.

Burress cant be #5 because he doesn't play ST

Dunn can't be #5 because he only plays ST

I love the MB Goldilocks syndrome....he is tooooo good....he is tooooo bad.....Never anyone just right until hindsight proves it..then there are 5 guys saying...I KNEW IT ALL ALONG

    anyway...

I think Pitt keeps 6 WR's this year....Brown, Sanders, Burress, Wheaton, Cotchery, and Dunn.

They kept Rainey as an extra RB last year even though he was mostly just ST
Dunn takes his spot....as a WR....Plax takes the extra spot the saved for Robinson at LB last year...and Robinson just makes the roster with the normal 8 LB's

I think not only does Plax make the roster...but is a LOCK for a spot....
I think Dunn and Wheaton play ST.

I think Cotch dresses until they feel Wheaton is ready.....then is a healthy scratch until injury hits....Plax provides leadership (already had article saying how younger guys look to him more than Cotch...because Plax has that RING) and brings something none of the others bring in height...you know Ben will look for him.

Ultimately..I think they keep 6...and all 6 contribute

    Interesting. Is that article link-able?

Plax has a ring, but also a fair bit of other stuff in his past that wouldn't seem to go alongside "great leader".

Some guys, of course, just are "leader" types... not all of them necessarily leading in the right direction, though. That's not to say Plax is that kind of guy, of course.

I think either Cotchery or Plaxico make the team, but not both.

It was in the trib last year when Burress signed....google it..I am sure its out on the web somewhere...but said not only was Burress taking on a verbal leadership role...pointing out weaknesses on film...but that the younger guys seemed more in awe of him than they did of Cotch...most likely because Cotch didn't have that ring..or pedigree...heck its probably even on this site somewhere.
