I don't actually disagree with any of this.

The debate shifted more to the competency of someone whose aptitude is capped at discussions of "I was right/you were wrong". When stretched to discuss the topic at a more detailed level, the debate falls apart as the nuance of the formations and play calls is not easily discussed in black and white/starter vs not starter terms. But since said individual operates in black or white world, he sees the more nuanced debate as a challenge to his right/wrong world. Hence his need to make stuff up.

Sorry man the true answer is yes ...Coates,Wheaton, and DHB have spent most of their snaps on the outside...And you are correct about the route running as well, because most of those routes are pre snap not designed routes ... A true Slot WR is like a QB/OC on the field they must be stellar in their practice and their prep ... As Haley stated most colleges don't even run a true slot , as such most NFL WR'S are trying too learn how .. Eli has played that position his entire Football career and it shows ....We ran a lot of true slot formations at the HS I coached and we used all types of guys there..Small ones,Big ones,Fast ones,Athletic ones and the 1 thing they must have is Knowledge of the game ...Ask any Coach who has ever run it and they will have mad respect for their knowledge of the game...That knowledge is why they are great route runners , but a lot of people really don't understand what a true slot WR is....

This has kinda been my point. It's hard to have a conversation with someone who's only concerned with being the guy who discovered the next diamond in the rough.
For me personally I think Rogers is going to do some good things for us. I just don't think he'll be listed as a starter and be the go to guy from week one. I may be wrong, but that don't matter. The only thing that matters is that the Steeeler play well regardless of who's playing the slot.
I think most here think highly of Rogers.

You can really tell when someone is trying to cobble together something that sounds like they know what they are talking about, but really it's just a football salad of nonsense.

Have you ever played the Slot WR ? Have you ever Coached guys to play Slot WR ? Have you ever designed blocking routes for a slot WR ? Have you ever watched tape on good Slot WR'S ? Have you ever tried to design Defenses to account for true Slot WR'S ? Have you ever played CB against Teams with good slot WR'S ? Have you been to Coaching camps on how to stop Slot WR'S ? I am sure I have more , but my answer is Yes to all of these .. So while what I say might not make sense to you , maybe it is your knowledge or lack thereof about the Slot position that is why this debate can't take off the way you want it to ?

    no doubt PWP
you should just police the boards like his sidekick does and leave the X&Os to the two of them

I would suggest a backs on backers drill between you two, but I doubt either of your egos would fit in the helmet.

My opinion...Rogers has more of an impact on the season and the offense than Coates. Feel free to debate the rest.

Yes we went to Georgia Southern 2 or 3 seasons that was a huge part of the Coaching Clinic that was in the early 90's when most Teams where moving from Power Formations and 2 TE looks to more Slot formations here in NWNC...The Coastal Teams and the Smokey Mountain Region where beating the crap out of us with it in the State Playoffs..I think each Team in the Conference had 2 or more Coaches at that camp ...

Wow, had a busy day and look what I missed!

PWP, no hemming and hawing, no percentage doodoo, give us a snap count? Is it 571 like RPO said earlier? Wheaton had 697 snaps last year, come on, pick a number. If I'm going to make good on my Adam Sandler take, I need a number.

Is that where you learned that you could have a small slot WR reach block (or crack back since you think they are the same) a WLB from the "true" slot.... But would not be able to block a SS from the bunch slot?

side debate not intended to interrupt PWP and RPO's healthy verbal sparring match. Here is my problem with Rodgers and not that he hasn't had a good showing so far in preseason. Twice now and there may be other times but I have saw it twice for sure he looks tentative after the catch. He caught to nice slants and he hesitated and was caught from behind and tripped up with ankle tackles. I know it is his first real NFL "lite" action but I'd like to see him make that catch and then turn on the jets and burn. If he is as good as PWP and others are saying then I'd like to see him break free on some of those routes and showcase that talent.

Nope it is not and a reach block the way we called it was for run blocking mostly and the Slot WR simply takes a reach step and tries to wall off his defender.. A crack back is exactly what it says it is .By the way is it a legal block ? As far as blocking a SS neither Rogers or Wheaton need to try that..Leave that for DHB and Coates ...

Eli is a better blocker than Wheaton , but he is not Ward, if so I have no problem with him in the bunch ,but at 170 lbs. maybe he better leave the 220's to the best blocking WR which is DHB..

I totally get what you saying. We would run tosses where the slot would do what our coach called a peel back block and his main goal was to block or at least get in the way of anything coming from the backside middle off the field. Normally it would be an olb.
