You're right, it's not out of line for fans to question if he should retire......it's also not out of line for the player to not give a **** what the fans think.

To players, it's about what the coaches, GM, and owner think.....the fans have 0 say in any of it.

Cam was wrong, he should have ignored the fans...that was his ONLY mistake.

You have to remember that this is a business. Both the player and the team are in it to make money. Bragging rights in good feelings doesn't put food on the table or help you to retire. As fans, we're invested emotionally and want everybody to take one for the team whenever necessary. We sometimes forget that players want to maximize their earnings for the few years that they can get them. I don't fault them for looking out for themselves. Because you know that the team is going to cut them loose as soon as the team decides that they can improve by getting rid of them. That employee/owner loyalty tends to run 70% one way and 30% the other way.

Well if that's the proof that you need to be sure then go with it you and others I suspect would know better than me. Just remember it cuts both ways though. I had to look back but in a post a while back you replied to me in a way that could be construed as personal. I let it drop because you never replied back to my question. If you don't like it yourself you ought not do it to others.

When it comes to Heyward, I struggle with the loyalty of some fans (or the lack there of).

Heyward has had an incredible career, been a leader, and is a genuinely good human being. Frankly, I can see why he might be frustrated by the fan commentary after one down season (caused by injury).

I have always believed that you reward your high performers, especially those who have been loyal for so long. I recognize this doesn’t fit with the “what have you done for me lately narrative”.
