Who do you see as Redzone scoring threats?

With a new O-Line and new OC we are all hoping for more redzone productivity, but I am curious who everyone thinks will be our biggest threats this year.

-I would like to know from where Wallace caught his TDs last year. I can't say for sure how many were thrown deep or came as a result of YAC on plays where the LOS was beyond the redzone. With the question marks surrounding his contract issue and the well documented drop off in play in the 2nd half of the season my confidence in him being a scoring machine is not very high.
-I love Antonio Brown and I am really pulling for him to continue to improve all phases of his game. He seemed to be the go to guy to move the chains on 3rd down last year, but that didn't translate into the redzone. He had what, 2 TDs last year? We need more scoring production from him for sure
-Sanders...flashes of being a great receiver, but the injuries make this one cloudy to me. From history alone he has not accounted for much scoring.
-I could see Heath scoring more TDs under Haley and behind what should be a much improved line.
-I think a lot of us are pulling for Redman and like his running style, but again the history of his scoring production isn't there. He too could very well benefit from the O-line and OC change.

My almost 4yr old son loves football. Much to my dismay he has proclaimed himself a Bengals fan (the tiger thing caught his eye). He says he likes the Steelers though too to go along with my love of the Steelers. He asked to watch my 2005 video today from when they beat Seattle in the SB. Watching the season highlights and seeing Bettis pound out a bunch of TDs and Ward make some great catches and tough runs to the endzone made me wonder who our go to guys on the current roster are going to be. Parker had some great runs and scores too.

Did you ground him? :lolol: Just joking, but really, I see Heath being a much more common target now. Hopefully he won't have to help block as much with our O-line upgrades.

lol...no, I am hoping he eventually sees the light on his own. I do keep reminding him though that there will be at least two weekends of utter dissappointment while Daddy celebrates every football season.

Until we see who makes the final roster (esp when it comes to the TEs and final WR)...who knows. Besides Heath getting more attention there we'll have to see how things pan out I think.

I agree, which is why for now I really just pointed out the obvious starter guys. Past results do not predict future outcome, but there is no one on the team that really has shown to have a nose for the endzone like Ward and Bettis did. I would love to see a WR/RB pair of go to scoring threats emerge that we can count on for a few seasons to come.

This will be hard for Steelers fans to understand, but you can get creative even in the red zone!

Redman is great when we're 3 yards or in... And I would LOVE to run a power formation with Legursky at fullback (which we've done) and maybe run that unbalanced line like the Ravens do with Mike Adams as the 3rd OT... Pull DeCastro into the hole for Redman... A thing of beauty.

We don't really have a guy to go up and get it when we're in 5-10 yard range but I expect Heath to get more action as some have mentioned. We have some very quick receivers and "screen" plays can be very effective with Brown, Wallace, and Sanders running crossing routes.

I say Heath gets more action. I also say Redman. The only reason he didn't score more last year was because when they should have been pounding him in from inside the 5, they were giving the ball to Mendenhal instead.

I'll go out on a limb and say Rainey. I hope they can be creative with him coming out of the backfield or lining up at wr to throw teams off balance in the redzone.

:amen: Need to have a tall package in the redzone. Part of our redzone problem has been our receivers are, how do I say it, vertically challenged. Great open field guys but when you get in the redzone there is no open field.

I'm curious to see what the new HB/FB/TE can do, Will Johnson I think his name is. Semms like an athletic big dude, maybe could pull of some Cooley stuff. Other than taking a flyer on him, I think some solid picks would be Redman, Miller, and Brown.

I seem to remember at one point that season Bettis had more touchdowns than rushing yards, because they kept putting him in at the 1 yard line. At least it seemed that way... :herewego:

I see Redman and probably Pope being our redzone options. But imo it depends on where in the RZ we're talking about. I'd really like to see us pound the ball into the endzone with Redman if we're within 3-5 yards. That's so demoralizing to the defense when you can manhandle them with a power run into the EZ. But i'd like to see us utilize guys like Miller and Pope in RZ passing situations.

Yes he did I think it was the year Parker became the starter. He had at one point three carries for three yards and 3 TD's because he was the goalline back. Drove my brother nuts because he had Parker on his fantasy football team and Bettis was stealing the TD points. LOL

Call me crazy but I actually liked the Wallace run they did in the wildcard game. It added another level that the defense has to guard against. Now with last years oline asking that play to get any more that three yards is high risk play but with this years it might be a 50/50 one. Let Wallace get the edge and then use his speed to beat the defenders to the corner of the endzone. That is if he plays.

having rainey start one way with the ball before they reverse it to wallace would really flip out the defense. they will be like...... c'mon man!!! :dancing:

I think we will have to see what our new OC and #7 really seem to like
to use according to the match ups presented to them. I hope Ben buys in,
I think Haley will make so much more out of Ben than BA did. If Ben buys in
I truly expect to see a more improved #7.Hopefully better decision making.

Weegie Thompson?? Seriously I expect Redman to have 8-10 TD's and Wallace to score about the same.
