The closest for me would be in D.C.

But that's early August and getting vacation time in would be tough at this point (Summers get requested very early. And I have almost 3 weeks coming up next month anyway).

But thanks for the link. Saving the site so I can check on events later this year if by some miracle I can convince my better half to go to Atlanta in October. Hey, wait a second. The Steelers are playing in Atlanta this season, right? What would be the odds if it was the same weekend? That would be... fate! I might have to pull every string I have if that happens.

    Otherwise, maybe next year. :(

If by chance they are on the same weekend this is what I would do. Book a room at the Intercontinental( that way you just have to take the elevator to the lobby). For the game just walk from the hotel two blocks to the closest Marta station and take that to the Benz for the game. There is also a Marta station in Hartsfield Jackson so you could make it to the hotel with ease as well.

The last time I did a beer fest or whiskey fest I ended up covered in buffalo chicken sauce, sweating, eyes swollen shut, screaming for more ice with a red stain on my pants... woke up the next morning with $200 in my pocket, a tee shirt covered in red grease and a polaroid of my name on a wall... Apparently, I won a wing eating contest.

Proper whisky isn’t spelled with an “e”. We are the only English speaking country in the world that spells whisky as whiskey. I always wondered why and started digging into. Apparently it came down to a marketing campaign. Basically the notion was pushed whisky without an “e” was of poor quality and only consumed by the dregs of society.

Not sure where you heard that. But there's a lot of urban myths, misconceptions, etc out there. And a lot of it in whisk(e)y is trash talk. ;) Bourbon isn't whiskey. Bourbon can only be made in Kentucky. Jack Daniels isn't bourbon. Scotch is more "pure" because it's single malt (not all scotch is single malt, and they're not the only ones making single malts). Etc, etc etc.

Using an E in whiskey started in Ireland to distinguish itself from scotch. Scotch only relatively recently in the scheme of things became being called scotch. In the beginning, it was just whisky (and in Scotland, most still just call it whisky). As Irish whiskeys started becoming more popular, the added the "e" to further distinguish themselves from scotch. And not because they were inferior. Because they considered themselves BETTER - after all, they invented the stuff. IOWs, trash talk and marketing. :roflmao:

As to why Americans use the "e," not all of them do. It largely depended on where your family's country of origin came from. Irish descendants tended to use an "e," everyone else not. Today, brands like Maker's Mark and George Dickle don't use an "e." But in modern days, the usual trend is whiskey uses an E in countries that have an "e" in their name (and Australia). Japan started their whisky development from Scottish influence, so they don't use an "e."

Interesting. "And now you know the rest of the story." (You read that in Paul Harvey's voice. Admit it)

Still just trash talk mostly though. ;) Nowadays, whiskey is recognized as using any grain. How you make and age it matter more. It never was inferior really.

Edited to add: and chalk it up to my poor reading comprehension before I've had my coffee. I somehow thought you meant whiskey with an e was the inferior one.

Not a whisk(e)y guy except for one real whiskey guys would probably make fun of, Fireball. I do enjoy a shot once in awhile. I was taken back at the prices of some of them that are under lock and key at my local liquor store. Some top brands are 500 a bottle. I know a guy who drinks Johnnie Walker Black and for Christmas his wife gets him a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. He tells me it is special and cost like 4-5 hundred a bottle. He tells me it is amazing but I have zero knowledge of Scotch.

To each their own. But for the price of Blue, I can buy 3 or more better bottles. It's good. It's not 350-500 dollars good.

But you can say that about a lot of high priced but popular whiskies. In the end, it's worth whatever people are willing to pay.

So true. Golf with a guy who collects coins and when I ask him their worth he always says whatever someone is willing to part with to have it.

I find that album cover very cool. Back in the day when albums were the thing (and not just for de-seeding certain things on the double albums) I really got into the art work on them. Two of my favorites were, "All The Young Dudes" by Mott The Hopple and LZ's "Houses Of The Holy" which in todays strange times would probably be banned as kiddie porn.

On a cruise with my wife.

Found a liter bottle of Talisker Dark Storm for under 80 bucks in Mexico.

A little strange buying scotch in Mexico of all places, but a deal is a deal.

There are a few details missing from that post. Maybe the blackened grouper did him in

I liked it. I am a sipper, not a shooter. It has a nice bit of spice to it but still smooth. I thought it was easy to drink.
