Where is the defense from 2005? Anybody seen Blitzburgh lately? Nope...

I'll take the 2005 D, I'll take just about and D from the Cowher era. Can somebody find us a turnover, somewhere please? The D was just flat out bad today, and the tackling was beyond ridiculous. I realize they've kept us in games so far this year but we cannot get a splash play on defense to save our lives.

That's been the story of the entire year so far. One side lets down the other every week.

You know you're having a bad season when coaches are talking about getting back to the basics in the first month of the season!

This was mentioned by players from opposing teams last year. Especially from players that see us twice a year. Dick Lebeau hasn't changed in 10 years and offensives have. I am thankful for everything he's done for the Black & Gold but I hope this is his last year.

Were missing what Harrison brought. Jarvis is great and all, but he doesn't wreck havoc like #92.

It's hard to cover anyone when you are forced to give them 15 yard cushions to stop the big plays. I'm sorry lebeau needs to go and go now. I appreciate everything he has dine but I would let him go right now and tell Butler you have a 12 game try out if you can't do any better we are going with Lake.

I'll do you one better and say we're missing a Joey Porter type of player. For so many years, the defense played with emotion and road that wave to big plays. Tomlin came in, took all the emotion out of that unit and they've struggled to be consistently good. The stellar veteran leadership that was there in the 90's and early to mid 2K era is long gone.

The defense from 2005 is 8 years older... and playing for other teams or they are retired.

Totally agree. Was great while it lasted but time has taken it's toll.

The D started going downhill when Aaron Smith went out. That guy was amazing and made the rest of the front 7 better.

Talent is less. No doubt about that. I wonder though how much the new labor contract affects the team. Can't practice in pads anymore. Bad game and practice the next week is just as easy as the week before.

Plus the NFL has changed there rules to be more like arena football. Goodell wants 50-40 games instead of great defense.

While I agree that Goodell wants high scoring games, not being able to get to the QB and giving receivers 10 yard cushions have nothing to do with the changed rules.

To play a 3-4 in today's league you need a special 3 man line. Only one player is good: Kiesel.

I truly believe that you cannot get a pass rush and cover in a 3-4.

You can if you have a passing rushing DE and at least one dominating OLB.

    or Two dominating OLB.

Giving the wrs that cushion is why sacks are so far down.

That still has nothing to do with the rule changes.

And how about a dominating middle Linebacker, we have none here either...
