    1. O-Line: ramon is a free agent and getting up there. gilbert injury prone and now getting up there. finney is a free agent. feiler is a FA i believe. we have okrafor and an oft injured hawkins. banner re-signed. many young guys waiting in the wings. a coach that is not new but on his own now. one of the best coaches in the nfl now gone.

    2. TE: two of our three are free agents. james and grimble. mcdonald and some young guys here.

    3. RB: two guys here in samuels and conner. RB coach gone. a new RB coach without nfl experience in. munchak a coach that helped with the run game gone as well.

    4. FB: nix here. fairly stable for now.

    5. QB: seems stable for now.

    6. WR: hunter,DHB are free agents. AB a mess and probably gone. eli, washington, juju, switzer here.

    7. kicker: on IR and is a mess. new guy with out much leg here.

    1. D-Line: the main 3 are here. tuitt is oft hurt. 3 backups are free agents.

    2. OLB: coach is gone. chickillo a free agent. two young players may be given a shot. dupree back for one year.

    3. ILB: fort a free agent. bostic and vince here. matakevich here. kelsey still here. tegrey scales brought in to compete.

    4. S: two starters. burnett here often injured. dangerfield re-signed. allen here. some young guys in the wings. new coach strategy.

    5. CB: haden here for a year and costing alot and getting up there in age. burns is a mess. sensabaugh a FA. sutton and allen here. a few young guys in the wings. new coaching strategy with an additional coach.

    6. P: berry here. inconsistent. smith still here.

overall we could be a very different team. many players and coaches different. 2 TE's, 3 WRs, 3 d-linemen. 1 ILB. 1 OLB. 1 CB. run game will change. (coaching and -1 RB) down 1 run game coordinator. possibly 2 starters off the o-line. 2 main o-line backups. ???? any others???
we have many holes without a lot of funds. right now we only have 39 players under contract.

    Bad coaches
    No munch
    Injury prone RB
    Turnover prone qb
    No AB
    Bad defense
    Horrid special teams
    What could go wrong?

Useful appraisal, mac. Here's my take:

Will be interesting to see if Foster stays at a team-friendly deal or wants more - the unity of the line is important, and paying him 'more' might not be that much more compared to some other FAs.

    2. TE: two of our three are free agents. james and grimble. mcdonald and some young guys here. I would be disappointed if we can't get an upgrade from Grimble in camp. I'd be surprised if James went elsewhere, though.

    3. RB: two guys here in samuels and conner. RB coach gone. a new RB coach without nfl experience in. munchak a coach that helped with the run game gone as well. Wouldn't surprise me if we take a late round pick similar to Samuels. The Fichtner/Ben offense is probably happy with what they've got here, though.

    4. FB: nix here. fairly stable for now.

    5. QB: seems stable for now.

    6. WR: hunter,DHB are free agents. AB a mess and probably gone. eli, washington, juju, switzer here. It's not a *bad* four to build off, if Washington develops and we pick up someone in the draft. Ben will probably want his 'big receiver' as well. We won't find another AB, but there was only ever one AB...

    7. kicker: on IR and is a mess. new guy with out much leg here. I have absolutely no idea what we do with this position.

    1. D-Line: the main 3 are here. tuitt is oft hurt. 3 backups are free agents. I seem to think Alualu has re-signed with us once before? It would be good to keep him around. Probably another late round pick and UDFAs competing for back up spots.

    2. OLB: coach is gone. chickillo a free agent. two young players may be given a shot. dupree back for one year. While I'm sick of us picking OLBs in the first round... we really have to go LB again this year.

    3. ILB: fort a free agent. bostic and vince here. matakevich here. kelsey still here. tegrey scales brought in to compete. They need to decide what they're doing with this defensive scheme and get the right guys in there. Fort should fit what they're doing. I like Matekevich but struggling to see what he brings at this point. Surely there's a case for drafting/signing someone to compete as a starter here?

    4. S: two starters. burnett here often injured. dangerfield re-signed. allen here. some young guys in the wings. new coach strategy. Hopefully signing like 38 safeties last year will pay off this coming season, and we can concentrate on CB.

    5. CB: haden here for a year and costing alot and getting up there in age. burns is a mess. sensabaugh a FA. sutton and allen here. a few young guys in the wings. new coaching strategy with an additional coach. We have to draft CB 1st or 2nd. And, as with ILB, know what we actually want out guys to do in the system.

    6. P: berry here. inconsistent. smith still here. I doubt they'll get rid of Berry. For better or worse.

ramon had said before its time for him to be paid. he has put in some friendly seasons for the team. this will be interesting. i could see a G/C draft pick as a possibility if A. we don't re-sign him. B. we sign finney to take that spot. C. just for depth on the interior for game day.

    i see a TE drafted.

we need a WR added. i hope it's a big fast one.

    fast ILB wanted apply within.

FS needed. not to start but for depth. golden is still around if he can make it into the season finally.

maybe we go back to Pitt for one of those two RB's for depth late.

O-line - I expect an extension for Pouncey (Ben said he'd play as long as Pouncey was his center). Foster might get re-signed if to a reasonable deal. If not BJ Finney played well when needed. Gilbert will be a cap casualty I think. Okorafor played well at tackle last year << points for Colbert with the 3rd round pick. Decastro and Villenueva will continue to be studs.

TE - James might get re-signed. I don't think he's getting some type of huge deal in FA.

    FB and QB = good

RB = good. Ridley has to go. Too many fumbles. Maybe sign another journey player not as fumble prone. May look at the mid 3-4th round for some talent.

WR = Draft one high. People criticize this, but the reality is in this offense and league and with a QB like Ben you need good targets (this is assuming Brown is traded and we get a #1 round pick). DBH = eh a special teamer. no WR value despite some's opinions. Hunter? good bye. What have you done for me lately? Need some young blood competing at the position IMO.

Kicker = think we all know how that turns out. So I guess draft one in the later rounds

DL = Alula (sp?) was a decent backup. Try and get him re-signed. bye bye Dan McCullers. And release LT Walton already

OLB = FREE AGENT big $$ pickup. Get a proven top edge rusher to put opposite of TJ watt. Release Dupree. Sign Chickillo if it's a reasonable backup offer. Might look to the mid-late rounds for an edge rusher/OLB.

ILB = Draft. Need someone proven who is athletic.

CB = High draft pick <>> one of the greatest needs. Both Coty and Burns aren't cutting it. A HUGE deficit on the defense in a pass happy league = not good. No way should either of those players be lined up on a #1 anymore.

Safety = EARL THOMAS << ok probably not going to happen d/t $$$$ , but would be cool. If not we did draft 2 safeties last year along with picking up Burnett.

Punter = Can't believe Berry had his job all year to be honest.

Burnett wants to save us the trouble of cutting him. He wants to be released because he feels he's being played out of position. I wonder if all our ILBs feel the same:roflmao:

i’d love to get a top edge rusher, but when have you seen those guys actually hit free agency? They almost always get resigned or tagged. There are some good second tier guys available this year though. Also, I’m not sure we have to release Dupree. He has some value. Getting a 5th - 7th rounder is not out of the question.

If Dupree stays he plays. We already know that. If that's the case I don't see much changing. We might carry 4 instead of 3 but Dupree will start and see the high majority of the snaps. They will blame Olas lack of experience dropping for his lack of snaps and it will be the same old same old except we will be stuck with Dupree for 3 more years. We finally have money to spend ....please spend it.

I didn’t say keep Bud. I was saying that he may have trade value, so we may be able to get something for him instead of just releasing him. I don’t want him back. I agree with you that if we keep him, he will start. That’s not where we need to be at ROLB in 2019.

Sorry I didn't read that right. I'm not sure how a trade works with his current contract situation but we seem to be on the same page.

Just curious. What do you think Bud can bring? Not being rude here. Really want to know.

I think he could bring a mid to lower 5th personally. Yes, he has been a disappointment but it is not like he cannot play. He is a decent starter. He could have that value.

All the more reason to purse trade. I’d give his agent permission to seek a trade somewhere that he can have a new deal in place, and say “get us a 4th rounder, and it’s a done deal.” I don’t expect that we’d get a 4th, but aim high and see what they offer.

    Indeed.

At this point, it is best to move on from Bud. I wish he could have gotten better but he simply just cannot bend the edge well enough. I would imagine though that teams who run the Wide 9 can take advantage of his explosive burst off the edge.

All this talk of trade any insights as to how a possible trade would work? Would the trade partner be on the hook for the 9 million. If so you can forget about that.

Depends on whom the partner is. Furthermore, depends on if they believe they can use Bud better. That is all I am saying.

I don't think they would find someone willing to give up a pick and pay him 9 million. Maybe a pick and having Dupree agree to a extension( restructure) I'm really just curious how a deal would work? More likely than not he is back anyway.....sigh.
