    Chill, BF, it's just someone's opin...never mind.

In all seriousness, teams like the Steelers, Ravens and Patriots, which are seldom active in free agency have it figured out. They do a good job of strategically signing for need and NEVER get involved in the bidding war. High dollar free agents rarely, if ever, pan out and some examples are Albert Haynesworth, Mario Williams and Mike Wallace (trust me on this one).

Just a dumb article. They never define what the grades mean. For instance, is C a lateral move from what they were last year and if so, how in the world did Baltimore get an A? Anyone who has ever watched the Steelers or followed their front office knows that they never make a splash in free agency.

Man, I hope that author knows what he's gone and done. That article's going to get Whimper so mad he'll destroy the AFC North next year.

What gets me is how all these experts rave on Baltimore about the Dumerville pick-up when it was a fluke that he was even available! If Denver gets the paperwork on-time, then what was Baltimore's plan?

What a joke. The Ratbirds could have added no one except Ray Lewis's bronze statue to the roster, and Hensley would give them a B+.

I underdtand what you're saying. It's true, as JackAttack said, that it's just an opinion. But it's also puzzling how the media's eyes turn to pinwheels over FA signings, because history says they should be more skeptical.

You're right, but I don't think they break the bank for anybody. If they can find a bargain, like they did with Randy Moss, they'll jump on it. But they will not compromise the financial integrity of their team to sign the free agent flavor of the month. Maybe a better team to use would have been the Giants. They are a perennial contender and don't get caught up in the free agent frenzy.

Selective Fa works, ask the Ravens, Should have been in the last 2 superbowls. They
don't sign everybody to enormous contracts, but they do sign players that they think
    can help them.

We do selective FA, just not splash signings, considering we have been to the SB 3 times in the last 10 years with 2 rings and the Ravens only 1, I'll stick to our way.

there will always be owners and gm's trying to take the quick and easy route to winning, regardless of how many times it fails...... in today's win now atmosphere, the lure of bringing in that big time f.a. to get your team over the hump, will always be there....... teams that already have a winning atmosphere can avoid this and just focus on bringing in the occasional role player, because the big pieces are already there..... teams that are building, and trying to get to that level are almost forced to put out the big bucks..... this will never change because of the instant gratification society that has been cultivated in this day and age.

you build through the draft..but you should patch via FA.....

The Ravens did that very well....the Steelers don't patch all that well......

on the flip side....the 49ers went heavy into FA all the way to the Super Bowl...it can be done.

    HACK

But could the NINERS secondary cover Anquan? Was he not the difference in last years Superbowl? He dominated and that is why the Ravens
    won the Superbowl.

Flaccos 11TD's and no interception performance throughout the playoffs might have played a part, not sure

Crappy playcalling by SF, blown coverages, a "different than normal" "style" of officiating by the refs that happened to favor Baltimore...
