The overall message here is spot on. I just want to address the red.

I wouldn't ignore people just because you don't like their opinion. Trolls? Yes. Otherwise, if they're not worth your time responding to, just don't. But you might be missing out on a good post now and then. ;)

I don't like cliquish behavior, but it is what it is. In any environment, given enough people, it's bound to happen. Don't let anyone intimidate you. Speak your mind. The only thing I wish is that people could sometimes take a step back and reevaluate their position after at least considering all sides. You may not agree, but it isn't hard to at least try to understand where they're coming from. :)

I think new members are treated pretty well here. I get PMs and emails from some occasionally after they've been here a while, saying thanks, and how they love it here but don't post much. There's some trollbait in the rant post that spurred this long tangent...let's not all swallow the hook. ;-)

I agree Ray, for the most part what you highlighted is me talking about posts that are in an ongoing thread not so much a new thread and those people I ignore are usually ones where I personally have tried numerous times to have a give and take kind of discussion but end up just throwing my hands in the air because like I said it just isn't worth it to keep talking. I would have better luck conviencing the sun to stand still than getting them to concede a point.

I don't have anyone on ignore, because even the people who I usually have a different opinion of, I still enjoy having a discussion with them over it, like Shaner and Oldschool. There really is no one here I 'dislike", hell, I even like Knox now and look for his posts and I used to get into some heavy fights with him over on the old board. I don't avoid newbie posts either, if it happens to be one of the same ol tired subjects that gets under my skin, I'll just click out of it without even finishing. So in that regard, yeah I'll give the veteran posters more leeway with topics I disagree on, sometimes, somtimes I just click out of those too :lolol: But there was a newbie last week with a first post and offered some great insight, so why skip just because they are new. I think overall, we have a pretty good messageboard "family" here. I alluded to it in another thread this morning how I used to be on the Yankees message board, long time ago, I left that place, totally crumbled into chaos and over run with trolls. Diehard should ease up on TTF, he (and the mods) have this place running pretty smooth.

is that you TTF fishing off the dock of joe montanas private island, waiting for jimmy johnsons yacht to pick you up and whisk you away to have lunch with all the living members of the HOF to tell you the real inside of the NFL? cool.

There is another Steeler board I go to that was started by a bunch of the OLD TIMERS from the OSMB.....and while I do drop in from time to time...it feels the very definition of "clique" Most of the regular posters over there are very knowledgeable...and have a great point of view...Problem is they all "know it all" you won't see much debate....or it comes across as PURE DEBATE...IM RIGHT AND YOUR WRONG....NO IM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG.....

I think part of the fun of a message board is the exchange of ideas and maybe getting someone to think differently via debate...or even teaching someone something they might not have known, or really thought about.

I have learned a few things in the years of being here.....and I would hope maybe a few have learned something from me in all the years as well.

Lord knows I have given PWP his share of debate...and although I disagree with a lot of what he says.....He is a valuable poster because he does spark debate, and create conversation....You can't be right if you never risk being wrong......So I prefer a guy who comes on here and puts his foot in his mouth over someone who never adds anything.

But I think the beauty of the the message board "REP" is that its earned....very rarely if ever does someone just post once and become "THE GUY" Its only through a few hundred or thousand posts that people seem to think...This guy has something I want to read.

I have no idea how much of it was truth. Maybe none, maybe all. In my opinion, it's equally ridiculous regardless of how true or false it is. There are hundreds of us here, and I'm sure a lot of us are very successful, have great season tickets, have met famous people, etc. But is anyone interested in making lists of reasons our lives are so great, in hopes of comparing them and impressing other posters? What would the point of that be? Not only does it not sound fun, it wouldn't work either. Without going to extreme extremes, it would be impossible to verify, and it wouldn't convince anyone of anything anyway. We can't even agree which players are good or whether grass is safer than fieldturf, but you're going to convince us your life is better or you know more?

I'm pretty sure everyone already knows that, and that's why we don't see that kind of thing normally. Still, it was fun.

By the way, 3 cheers for Hack and his artwork.

Aye, good posts here. The line between "community" and "clique" isn't always clear, after all.

I wonder if one of the issues on a sports board like this is that there tend to be far fewer posters in the off-season, which means when the season re-starts there can be the appearance of some kind of in-crowd. Such is life, I guess.

On a different note, the artwork in this thread has shown a creative streak hitherto unseen amongst the members of the board. Bravo, I say.

I would hate to actually post regarding the title of the thread but...

Lawrence Timmons is doing his job. As an ILB in the 3-4, I expect a high tackle total, some INTs, some FFs and some sacks. A bust? I don't think so.

What I will say is, he started his career off very quickly. 12 sacks in his first 2 seasons where he actually started games, for a career total of 17. 4 career INTs and 8 career FFs. While he has gotten quieter for the past couple of years, he is surely hampered when he is constantly rotating in at OLB. I think if he can stay inside ALL YEAR, we will see his numbers rebound to where he was as a younger player.

I agree for the most part and I think he is playing well just like you do....I do not think he will ever get back to those #'s though...Not because it is his fault simply because the QB'S in the NFL are getting better and better and Teams have learned it is best for them to get the ball out quick as a result he won't reach those totals again IMO...

I'd like to tell most of you that I agree with you but I really don't have the time. I'm waiting for the limo that the Rooneys have sent for me to pick me up and take me to their private jet. I should be in the Purgh about 0400 hrs in the morning and will be whisked off to the plush hotel room that is waiting for me. I think I heard that there is some female intertainment waiting for me but you can't always be sure about these things. Then it is off to the box seats where I will be sitting next to Dan to enjoy and discuss the team. I don't know how many changes have been made over the years due to our conversations. I think Dan doesn't really like making a big decision without my input but I'm speculating here. By the way...to answer a burning question that most on here have...yes, the Rooneys (and I) did play a major role in Big Ben's punishment. Goodell, actually, wanted to make Big Ben the cover boy for the year but after I was sent to speak with him he changed his mind and suspended Ben. Anyhow, for those of you poor soles watching the game from your TV, when the camera pans over the box seats look for me. I will be the one holding a drink in my hand and I will look like I'm being thoroughly entertained by those around me. I'm easy to identify anyhow because I am 6-2, 210 lbs (all muscle), blonde hair, blue eyes and my friends say I'm a cross between Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Now...Prove I'm lying! lol
