Well, I guess it's either that you stop reading my posts, which you are MORE THAN WELCOME to do, or go on anti-depressant meds. As for the lazy part, I probably should not have even started this thread because I'm actually trying to get out of the office and go home for dinner. That's right, Snack, I do happen to be gainfully employed and I'm doing my part to try to keep this sorry excuse of an economy running. Now you may also be gainfully employed as well but given the in-depth analysis you seem to do on a daily basis AND the fact that you are always monitoring this board (for the "stupid" opinions of lazy, uninformed vermin like me), you apparently have a job that gives you way too much time on your hands.[/quote:hv78vu8u]

You didn't need to back down from this assessment. You were accurate. The guy is arrogant and swings and misses more than he hits. And demeans everybody that doesn't agree with him. It's quite fascinating to watch. I've silently read posts from people on other boards who said they gave this one a shot but quickly left town because of the small clique of 'experts.'

I agree with you that it's borderline scary to think that someone out there is watching every play of every game in an entire season eleven times, grading each play, putting it into a spreadsheet, and posting it on an internet message board for . . . what purpose? To satsify some project that nobody cares about in which they don't even get paid for? That's just weird. You are right to question how someone has the time and energy to take on a task of this nature while posting 4-5x the amount of posts as everyone else on the board. Dost thou work? On physical (mental) disability leave? The mood swings certainly raise concerns. And it's very hypocritical for him to attack you for being negative when the guy is the resident Debbie Downer (as witnessed by the smart-arsed response to your post). And his cronies just love it. For whatever reason, the other nerds with nothing to do clamor to him like he's Farmer Ted with Molly Ringwald's panties.

I would pay good money to get a webcam feed on some of these guys. Watch them sit around doin nothing but watching video of the Steelers, living to write about it, and . . . not getting paid for it. I picture John Clayton in the most recent ESPN commercial. "Mom, I finished my assignment!!"

At least the guy at Steelers Depot created a web site and has people advertising.

And regarding Timmons, you would have to travel outside of your parent's basement and actually spend a little time around the organization to have a real grasp on situations like these. As assistant John Mitchell told ME in Latrobe, they wanted both Timmons AND Woodley, they wanted Woodley more, but they knew Woodley would be available when they picked in the second round and Timmons would not so that is why they selected Timmons first. It's not that they believe he was more talented than Woodley. They didn't. So whenever someone wants to spend the next three-hundred hours grading players and giving them some obscure statistical numbers showing this and that the other thing and, really, nothing at all, at least have an understanding that you're not viewing Timmons as a first-rounder, because they organization doesnt'.

I just watched the Philadelphia Eagles opener in Cleveland last Sunday . . . from Bernie Kosar's private suite. Bernie, Kevin Mack, Webster Slaughter, Hanford Dixon and several others. I spend tons of time in Latrobe in and around the team. I know several of the players. I attend most all of the team charity events. I'll be in a luxury box at Heinz for the opener on Sunday a night after flying in from the Red Sox/Blue Jays game in Toronto. And I don't even live in Pittsburgh. I can tell you this, you gain a heck of a lot more knowledge being around the organization than you do sitting at home, never attending games (let alone setting foot in Pennsylvania), poring through issues of Steelers Digest, and watching tape after tape of old games and spouting off like you're some expert. What a joke.

Players laugh at dudes like HugeSnack in real life. Grown men who fawn all over them? They're scary. Don't take his attacks. And certainly don't bow down from them, apologize, and backpedal with smiley faces. Be a man or change your Jack Lambert avatar.

    Pile on, bitches.

I don't know if bust is the right word for Timmons, but I would certainly catagorize him as an underachiever.

Anyone taken in round 1 should, by the drafting teams standard be of more worth than say a 5 or 6 rounder. Timmons certainly has not lived up to what the Steelers thought he would or could become.

Timmons has had his run. He is on the downside at this point and it appears that he simply cannot get any traction. In what was supposed to be a monster break out year last year, he disappeared. But that is not unlike the current crop of LB's on the Steelers. Woodley has a good couple of games, then does his Houdini act. He and Timmons were certainly no shows Sunday night as I can't really remember them doing anything. In fact, on a couple of plays, Timmons once thought to possess great speed for a LB, looked terribly slow in chasing down the ball carrier.

At this point, he has played about average. Not every LB is Jack Ham reincarnate and this is why there is only one Jack Ham, and Jack Lambert. These guys only come around once in a long while.

Timmons will continue to flounder as he has his whole career until the Steelers feel the need to release him to free up some money. He is expendable. Maybe not this year, but his years with the Steelers are numbered.

Where? What's wrong with watching and analyzing game film if you don't get paid for it?

That's cool that you know players personally. Which ones?

I forgot to mention that personal attack type posts such as this one are against the community guidelines.

I absolutely believe that. Woodley's the more talented player, and would be a top 10 pick if they had that draft again. And leave it to the Steelers to know that the man should be going in the top half of the first round, but wait patiently and snatch him in the 2nd anyway. Even if they wanted Stallworth more than Swann, they had to take Swann first, right? Stallworth would be there in the 4th. What I was saying to Jack was to counter the claim that Timmons was supposed to be the linebacker version of Troy Polamalu. Unless I'm understanding wrong, you're kind of helping me out here with that point. Their expectations were far more realistic than what many fans had in mind.

Um, I'm pretty sure they do. I mean, they did take him in the first round. They didn't even trade back. If they viewed him as less than 1st round material, they had plenty of space to trade back, even if they had to take a crappy deal. Joe Staley made it into the late 20s. As you pointed out, all along they were thinking they'd probably be able to steal Woodley in the 2nd. But they're allowed to think that there's more than one 1st round quality player in the draft, right? Or did they say, "Damn, we're going to get our 1st rounder in the next round. Let's take a 2nd rounder now..."?

As for the rest, I watch all the film because I like it. In the past I didn't have access to it, and now I do. I did all the grading because I was tired of relying on other people's opinions, and I wanted to know if my instincts from one-time viewing could be trustworthy. Then I figured if I was going to do it all, why not share it? I thought some people would like it. I'll be doing the exact same thing this year and I've already started the Denver game. And let's get one thing straight, before you really piss me off: I live in my mom's garage, not her basement. I'm not some kind of loser. Geez.

Either I just don't understand what you are trying to say....or that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard...Woodley is more talented...but we want the NON first rounder Timmons because he will be drafted in the first...and Woodley won't??? That the Steelers don't even look at Timmons as a first rounder....yet paid him like one on a couple of different occasions now....If that is true...we might all be giving Colbert to much credit

Well, some of us are just not lucky enough to be sitting in luxury boxes and talking to our BFF assistant coaches....the rest of us have to read and watch tape.

and FYI...my moms basement is AWESOME!

Hack, you missed the point. It's that if you can't gab with players and coaches and pick their brains directly, then there is no way to know what you're talking about, and there's no point following the game to whatever level you feel like. Also, people who have had jobs in the industry are never, EVER wrong. I mean, just look at the analysts on TV! Those guys have incredible resumes, and they're right about everything, right?

Hey, can I come over later and play Duck Hunt later? And will your mom make some of those snickerdoodles?

It seems like his first and second year they had him working towards taking Farriors job of calling the plays. What happened? Why is it Foote now? Is he not able to take a job he was being groomed for?

I think the plan was for him to take over for Farrior and play alongside Foote. They didn't realize that Farrior had 5 more years in the tank. So instead he had to replace Foote, and Foote got the boot. Now Foote's back, and they like him as the green dot guy. LeBeau has always loved him, and I'm not sure why. But Keith Butler has said that Timmons is practicing in that role too now, so that he can take it over whenever Foote leaves.

I have to say, I've always been hard on Foote, but he played great against Denver. And his very best games last year were the ones he started when he knew Farrior was going to be out (weeks 8 and 9, NE and BAL). But he was always so bad coming off the bench in relief of Farrior. Maybe he's just the kind of guy that needs starter reps. Maybe it's a mental thing. Who knows. But out of a pretty small sample size, he seems to always do better when he's the planned starter vs. when he plays in relief. That was terrible news for us a year ago, but it's great news for us now.

Has anybody thought that the Steelers maybe using him the wrong way?
He was forced to play 2 positions last year. Two years before, he was hurt with nagging injuries
played thru these injuries, something alot of players DO NOT. Do I think he has
not lived up to his salary, your damn right. But a bust? I might not go this far, He needs
to pick it up though. There needs to be more production, not only from him but the other 10
on defense. When your supposedly best player on defense claims that they did nothing in the Denver game
don't you start to wonder about things?

I heard from the girl at baskin Robbins who knows the a brother's cousin's uncle who hangs out with a 3rd cousin, twice removed, of a ball boy that works in New York but knows a guy that knows a guy that knows one of the linesmen in Pit that they were going to wait and draft Big Ben in the 5th round because he was a 6th round talent but knew they had to take him in the 1st because he wouldn't be there in the 3rd! I heard that while I was watching the game from the dirty table at the local mom and pop bar down the street, sitting next to some skank that hadn't bathed in two weeks. Next week I will be walking to the neighbors house to watch the game on their 27 inch tv after I crawl out of bed from being at the bar the night before. It just so happens that that bed is located in the crawl space of my parents double wide trailer! I'd spend all day analyzing game film and breaking it down for everyone but I'm just not that literate or intelligent (and certainly not that ambitious). On a side note...why do you want to burst my bubble about my worship of people like Snack? I sneak into the bathroom at home dressed in my cling-on uniform, with my Spiderman comic book and masturbate while holding a print-out of Snack's post on here. Don't go breaking my heart or I will Vulcan Mind Trap you!!!

I think the "B" discussion is a little premature. He's played his first game without Potsy, and it was a dull uneventful game for him.... but we had several players that fell into that same description. I'd like to see how the season goes before passing judgement. I'm hoping this first game was just adjusting to the speed of the game and he'll catch fire once we are well into the regular season.

For me its my moms basement but I might add I drive a Porsche. Hey it was either moms basement and a Porsche or a Volkswagon and an apartment. I like to look cool and love telling everyone how I know the Porsche dealer and how much I love my mom for allowing me to park it in her driveway. People see me driving this thing and think OMG this guy is awesome he has the world by the proverbial n@t sack, I wonder if he knows anyone in the Steelers organization or if he has box seats. I don't but its the image that counts.. lol

Well I better get off this thing. Its my moms turn to use it and she really gets PO'd if I use up her minutes :)

I aspire to someday to be sitting beside FeelTheSteel so we can swap stories of better times and better circumstances :)

After that I go for a spin in my Lamborghini and drive real slow by the people on the streets to show how cool I am. Then I come here and brag to you guys how much superior I am and how much of a loser you all are. Man I am sooooooo cool. :dancing:

    Did somebody call my name?

Seriously, Timmons is a "bust" if you align his drafted position with his career performance. He is not a bust if you consider he has been a NFL starting LB for a top NFL defense for a while now. Is Mandrich a bust? Highly touted and drafted high OL. Yet he did have a decent career latter with a different team.

Snack must be alluding to my question who means more to our defense, timmons or gay. Snack took it out of context and blasted me for months, year now in personal attacks. Feelthesteel has a valid point as I've seen snack blast a number of posters yet he is our supposed expert most everyone loves. Alot of us, including me, enjoy analying games and players for the fun of it, some for the glory and notarity we may get and some for a better personal understanding of the game.

As much as I respect TTF and appreciate what he has done here for all of us I must say I find it interesting he quickly warned feelthesteel about personal attacks yet have never seen it concerning snack.

Back to the point of the thread, Timmons is very dissappointing. we all expected more especially considering he was a top 15 pick. Heck, he be disappointing he was drafted in the 3rd rd. We MUST expect more out of high draft choices than late rd picks.

    Cajun-

PS- I fully expect to see a flood of blasts.

I have to put the admin hat on from time to time in a thread. However, there's lots of moderating and administrative activity that people aren't aware of- that doesn't go on in open threads. I'll just leave it at that. I will say though that Admin and Moderator actions of that sort aren't open for public deliberation.

I was just referring to your threads as a location of some of my thoughts on Timmons.

I knew you thought he wasn't living up to 1st round status. I didn't realize you think he's not even living up to 3rd round status. We definitely are seeing different things.

I wonder if TTF thought that my posts and FeelTheSteel's post were very different. I'm surprised you don't. I'm just speculating, but it may have something to do with how he defines "personal attacks." I think we can all agree I just got a humdinger thrown at me. When did I do that to you? I've been especially harsh on you (and Jack) more than anyone, but I attack what you say, not who you are. I don't remember everything I said, and I'm sure you can find a quote if you feel like it, but I don't remember ever doing anything along the lines of what FeelTheSteel just did. If I did, then I apologize. But, um...

I just blasted you with a personal attack? I said, "I was clear about my opinion of Timmons. See the thread started by cajunyankee." ...considering you call that a personal attack on you, I'm not sure your definition of "personal attacks" is the same as TTF's.
