I would have already hired Rex Ryan but sure, would definitely be a good hire. He'd probably cost too much though. Same as Rex.

IMO it won't matter as long as MT is here to keep sticking his hands into things.

The front office is too stupid and stubborn so it's irrelevant.

I did. Have you seen how active the front office has been lately. I'd hardly call them stubborn or stupid.

If they part ways with Butler (they should), Teryl Austin will probably get the job.

It doesn't really matter anyway. This is Tomlin's defense.

This isn't Tomlinson defense or team. It's Colbert's. He does the drafting and trades. Tomlin just idly sit there and agree with picks

You’re close. AR2 is largely responsible for our recent draft failures or reaches if you prefer. For years Colbert never reached for players or targeted players based on need. In the past he always picked bpa then all of the sudden it became positions of need. He also started reaching for players. I don’t believe for a second he suddenly changed his methods. I do believe AR2 has been there demanding we draft an olb(Jones and Dupree) or cb/s. Don’t get me wrong he has the right to do so, but the results are easy to see.

You're right Defva. It isn't Knoll's either. ;) But considering Pirates finally tossed Hurdle today after 9 years and Penguins tossed Bylsma a few years ago, will Steelers be less reluctant to make changes soon?

This right here. Been preaching it since Week 2 of this season. As I have stated many times already, Teryl is not some rookie DC. He has coordinated NFL Defenses before.

Should Butler continue to underwhlem, demote him for the remainder of the season. If Teryl Austin is successful for the rest of the season, he gets the permanent position. If not, hire a new one in the upcoming offseason.

Keith Butler is as good as gone after this season anyhow. Quite the disappointment no less. Then again, being the pinnacle of what is the "Peter Principle" did not do any favors from the start.

They won’t fire Butler and we will waste another year finding out Austin isn’t the one either. Like you said let’s find out now. It’s a no brainer , which means we will make a decision that is brainless....

They lose against the bungles, and it's the defense that lost it, time to can Butler and make Austin the coordinator. Need a spark. A shake up.

    Not that it will happen.

We don't know what Austin is capable of. He has never had this level of talent in his DC coaching career. I would be willing to at least see what he can do as the interim.

Regarding Keith though, keep in mind his contract is set to expire after this season. He is as good as gone. Unless he accepts being demoted, sayonara!!

I’m willing to see as well but I’m willing to see right now. We’ve seen for years what Butler can do and it’s lead us to this point . I don’t see the reason to waste any more time.

We have a very confused fan base. It's about 50/50 on that tweet and I read a plethora of comments about Tomlin making the defensive calls while others stated he does not . lol

Yes to Quinn, and the only thing more incompetent than Butler, are the clowns that won't fire him.

This is where I am at confused lol. I have read how MT makes the calls and how MT has so much input on the defense. If these comments are true and MT has a lot of say in our defense then does it really matter who the DC is?
