Yeah let’s just call it what it is and I agree I think Edmunds will be a bust

Yeah and remember most said he was a reach. He was picked to be a gronk defender and hes been just bad. I cant pickout nothing good hes done.

I dont see it. He was already considered a reach and a raw project when he came out.

you almost need raw natural talent in this defense because I have yet to see these type of guys get better without showing any flashes

    :hmm:

Players like Derwin James come around once every generation. That being said, his performance in the Regular Season was well within many peoples expectations, mine included. Terrell had no business starting as Tomlin had already stated after the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Terrell started out of circumstance. Morgan Burnett was and is injury prone. I am impressed that Terrell did as well as he did given the circumstances.

People do tend to forget that the man in my avatar did not pick it all up until Year 3. He is not the only one. Ryan Shazier really did not get things going until Year 3 the same.

Every Steelers 1st pick cannot be a T.J. Watt. Some players take time. Terrell is one of them. Personally, I believe the issue holding him back is not soley on him. The issue is the Defensive Coordinator.

Hope you're right. It would be a big setback if he was a wasted pick. Look how Jarvis Jones and Dupree have set us back.

    Jarvis was due to lack of athleticism and Dupree is due to lack of bend + development on his part. I do not see either of those issues with Terrell. Many called him being a player in the third to fifth round. Jeremy Fowler had this to say;

I will trust the man who has been in the NFL far more than some Arm Chair GMs.

Anyone who didn't know what Troy was going to become at this point in his career (early 2nd season) either wasn't paying attention or didn't know what they were looking at. If he was a full time starter his rookie year he would have broke through much sooner. I guess the extra play time is working against Edmunds.o_O

Except this is an issue within context here. As I said, he was not meant to receive playing time. Morgan was but then got injured. I really do not know how many more ways I can put it.

Terrell starting was the absolute last thing the team wanted in his rookie season. Well... it happened and he did well. In his second season though, it still showcases his shortcomings to the position.

Keep in mind he was moved around in his years at Virgina Tech; his Junior Season being his only season playing Strong Safety. Accounting for that in addition to his Rookie Season, he only has been playing Strong Safety for Three Years. That is not a whole lot of experience at all.

To not expect growing pains from someone who is still relatively new to the position in Terrell Edmunds is not just disingenuous to him but also unfair. Give him some time. Rome was not built in a day.

One final caveat. Troy's DC was Tim Lewis in his Rookie Season. Tim was canned after that. Dick LeBeau came along. Granted, Troy still needed time then. Guess what happened in his third season with a COMPETENT Defensive Coordinator?!?!

    On that note, guess what?!?!

Troy was a play maker right outta the box. It was obvious he was the future by season 2 (season 1 by those paying attention). Put a play maker on the field in any position (within reason) and he will make plays. Edmunds hasn't showed that yet. It just makes the comparison between him and Troy that much more unreasonable.

No comparison at all. I never said, at any point, Terrell is the next Troy. Heck, I said that right after we drafted him.

All I am saying is that Terrell needs more time at the position. Again, Three Years at a position compared to all one's life in the likes of Troy or better yet his 2018 Draft Classmate in Derwin James is quite the experience gap. Let him settle in some.

The flashes have been there. We all saw it in the Preseason. No reason to assume he simply lost it. His Defensive Coordinator on the other hand.....

Before I let this go, I will say this. Mike Tomlin dis say he was looking for a multi role safety during his 2018 Pre Draft header. Why were there no major Steelers Staff at Florida State's Pro Day is still something that intrigues me to this day. :hmm:

Mentioning Troy and Terrell Edmunds in the same sentence is comparing them.

By position?! Yes. By circumstance?! No. Most importantly, by experience of the position?!...

Even with the uncharacteristic year, I doubt there are any more trades tbh. Especially if the team wins the next couple in Oct. And if they drop the next 2 or 3 in a row and then make a trade, I think the public perception would be that the team is mailing it in and KC and Art2 won't want that stigma imo. I think they'd rather take the hit on the next draft than start trading players mid season.

Plus they aren't going to trade away 2 starters (Gravedigger, Dupree) mid season when the team is struggling. If another team had a rash of injuries at CB, I could see them sending Burns for a 6th or 7th but only because he is a depth player, even then I think its a remote possibility until Haden is practicing fully and they feel comfortable with Layne. And they said they want to redshirt him.

Bottom line for me, I think the wheelin n dealin is done for this season.

I’d love to know which unnamed NFL exec/coach labeled him a top 15 player in that draft.
