I hear what you are saying and this is the optimistic outlook. However, missed tackles and poor angles are more player related than scheme related. I don't believe that our starters are playing 75% and going to turn it on in the regular season. It's just not how the game is played. You give your all every time you are on the field, even if it is for a couple of series. At least they know where their deficiencies lie and they have 2 weeks fix what is broken.

I was at the game on Saturday. The biggest thing that stuck out to me, was the poor tackling. The secondary missed some assignments. Boykin had an easy INT that he dropped.

This. Basically what is happening to our defense is what happens to teams new to the cover 2... We're getting ripped in the seam. Will it happens some in the regular season too? Sure. Will it get better? Yes.

Apparently a lot of you thought we would get a new DC and tweak a thing or two and poof! Top 10 D. Unfortunately, that's not how it works. It will take time, but I have no doubt we will be good again soon.

With what I have seen of this 2015 team, I have to agree with all of the statements above. Which leads me to believe that before this team gets turned around, Ben will have retired and all of the seasoned players will be gone, plus we will no longer be the only team to have won 6 SB's.

Ben's still got quite a bit of football left in him. Look how long guys are playing now at the position. It shouldn't take us 5-7 years to build a competent defense.

You know I am tired of watching a non emotional team that looks like they don't want to be out there. Attack, let these players instincts come to the fore front and let the chips fall where they be. At least we might see some exciting football? Go get them, football is really a simple game, can you beat the man in front of you?

I don't put much stock in preseason stats overall, but I do get concerned when I see big problems in certain areas that seem to be getting worse -not better - as the regular season arrives. Our downfield coverage has been nonexistent, and it seems to be worse every week no matter who is playing. We used to worry about death by a thousand cuts via underneath passes, now we give up yardage in chunks and have no answer for tight ends (and play the best TE in the league week 1).

I'm not confident that we'll see enough improvement on the back end to survive the first game, but I do have hope that it will improve over the course of the season (I have us at 10-6 with a 2-2 start). I simply think we're not ready to start the season.
