His PFF grade is a dreadful 34.5, backed up by conventional statistics. Is he trying to do too much and getting out of position? Are they trying to do too much with him? Harder competition?

In 2019 his passer rating against was 46.3, in 2020 it was 65.7. This year it's 129.6. He's playing himself out of a huge contract extension.

So you are saying Terrell Edmunds is our best defensive back for pass coverage?

    This is Bizzarro World!!!

They’re using him differently. Moving him around a lot. They’re almost trying to use him like Troy. Interestingly enough that was one of his complaints about Miami and led to his trade.

This. He’s a great free safety, and does a great job playing in a single high role. So what do our coaches do? Try to move him around like a “chess piece” to the detriment of the entire defense.

Hmmm. They got Him trying 2 cover everyone else's deficiencies. That's the problem.

Was he complaining that he wanted to be left as a FS or that he wanted to be used in multiple ways? I remember something about that but not the details.

In Miami they were continually moving him around and he wasn’t comfortable with it by all accounts.

I dont trust PFF grades, especially not for a safety that is being moved all over the defence, PFF can’t say for sure what his assignment on a particular play is. He certainly isn’t playing at the level he was to to put him as one of the worst in the league is a joke quite frankly

I’d agree with others that he has been one of the best free safeties in the game for several years and was making big plays, just leave him there.

That Edmunds has a good rating tells you all you need to know about how useless they are. I'm not saying Fitzpatrick has been good, but the idea that Edmunds has is comical.

Why would they rate him that then?

Fitz isn't anywhere near his 2019 peak. He's been mediocre for a while now.

PFF sucks, watch the games, don't read PFF

That said, be VERY careful with Minkah. his play is not as stellar as it was in 2019.

By the way, former PFF superstar Jamal Adams is only grading out at 55.5 this year. A Seattle beat writer was on the Terrible Podcast today and said the coaches are using him in coverage more and not at the LOS, and that's the reason for the dropoff.

Why do coaches feel the need to fix something that isn't broken?

I recall he didn't like being used at the LOS.

Minkahs biggest mistake was looking like the greatest safety ever in his 1st 6 games here in ‘19, and then returning to earth. Minkah arrived and was getting a turnover a game and scoring def TDs right off the bat. In Nov 2019, getting him for a 1st rounder looked like the heist of the century. The Stiller way had found a HoFer for peanuts.

Then he stopped making splash plays (or at least they were fewer and farther between), he started to miss tackles and sometimes looked comical doing so. Maybe he wasn’t Troy after all.

He’s a very good player, a Pro Bowler, an important guy. It’s just that he can’t live up to the expectations he set early on. So he looks like a dissapointment by comparison. They will likely resign him and they should. But, I’d be leery making him the top paid safety.

I think Minka is going to be wanting CB money; like Leveon Bell wanted WR money.

I'm an HR/Labor Relations guy and that's what management specializes in. Seems that it's prevalent across all industries.

I remember everything would be running as well as can be expected and then they would change things up for no apparent benefit. One of my supervisors once told me he had to justify his salary.

1000% but then haden is older and hurt more they have different CB's this year (well same CB's that were here last year but sutton is now outside and others playing in the nickel). Kinda makes you wonder if Nelson should have been retained. But it definitely seemed like when he was allowed to sit back and play true FS he made a lot more plays.

Steelers Depot had a breakdown of the bills game and mentioned that Minkah played more in the slot corner position in that game alone than he did the last two years. Let the man sit back there and help where its needed and be the Ball Hawk that he is.

I doubt it, he won't get it from the Steelers if he did.

The Steelers should tell Minkah he's going to play 2022 under his fifth year option, they can give him a big contract in 2023, they need that cap space in 2022 to fill holes on the roster.

They could probably get a lower cap hit in 2022 by extending him and pushing bonuses into the future.
