The Colts threw a pass that should have been intercepted, but Porter dropped it. They also fumbled once, but none of the Steelers could find the ball to recover it.

brown was supposed to be up and coming. then they added anthony midget. he has 9 years experience. he also was supposed to be quite good. austin was a DB coach. tomlin was a DB coach. i'm not saying these guys have not helped but something is still amiss. edmunds being on the field is worrisome. why? we have safeties. why do we need him? they want to play a tampa 2 but as a single high for some reason. trying to make a new look defense to name after themselves? ryan shazier ain't coming back so they need to get over that crap as well. 3 safety looks and not being able to find a slot corner have gone on for years. they want to use the ilb'ers as that cover man of the slot corner in the middle of the field but they are run towards the sidelines most often. they leave huge holes on the field on any given play. it's not hard to see that.

Nutting is just flat out cheap and couldn't care less about winning. If MLB had a salary cap the Pirates would always be way below it. No agent will ever let a good player come to Pittsburgh. Steelers are way above the Pirates.

hearing that Robert Saleh is in the hot seat in NY and butting heads with Rodgers, Robert could be looking for a new gig for 2024. I would love to see Robert Saleh as our DC. Giving him full control of the defense and bring some creativity and new scheme. that will be the change I like to see in our defense. Robert Saleh as Steelers DC.

And I don't think the Rooney's are anything like that scourge Nutting.

Despite the personnel on the field, there's also something to be said for the intensity.
You tend to get that when you plug in leader type players in the right places. They know what it takes to win.
TJ and Heyward are good types.
This spins off to another topic I don't want to get into.

But I think they get a little 'complacent' when it comes to manning the defense.
I also think they could put more eyes (add a coach or two)
And change the schema (New DC)
One just needs to examine the 49ers and how that defense has been built and coached by Nick Sorensen. (8 coaches)

Conventional wisdom would say that if Flacco is standing back there comfortably going through his progressions and picking your defense apart, then you should probably try something like, oh, I don't know? A blitz? Yes, that's it. A blitz to make him uncomfortable. Now, someone will invariably point out that Flacco will recognize a blitz, check out of the play, or complete a pass anyway. Well, that's no excuse for not trying to blitz him. He was 6-8 on third down for God sakes.

If I was the DC/ HC I would go back into Archives and
look at Dick Lebeau defenses and see if they can incorporate
a portion of his exotic blitz packages. Can't hurt.

This why I LOL when people say ....well he has no mobility.....LoL. people have been brainwashed. I don't know how people played Qb for all those years without running ability.....facing all those pass rushers. It's called step up, step back, step to the side, and get rid of the ball quickly When a guy throws a punch...you don't have to run to not get hit.

Tomlin lives in his fears so much he should have a dang comforter made of them. Schematics be darned he will not change and adapt as a game evolves except to stop blitzing when a quarter back when a QB enters a game that either he gets love dovey eyes over or that he forgets exactly when air flacco was drafted which was 2008 one year into his HC gig with the Stiller's... Maybe the old NFL films John Facenda line about father time was echoing threw coach Ts head. I dont know. But logically how do you not blitz a QB who entered the NFL in 2008 but blitz one who entered last year and was born 6 years before flacco took his first NFL snaps?? Please....anyone? I'll take any rational or even remotely knowledgeable answer... Or even a school of thought that might make you even consider what he did as top tier NFL head coaching....

Well, the first 3 games, we were able to get pressure on the qb with 4 players and drop back 7 in coverage. But, because of injuries and plug in personnel, we were discombobulated. This is not on Tomlin ... it's on the DC to adjust. We can't improve as a team because we can't depend on one group to play consistently while we fix the other groups(positions)

The injuries were not all a surprise. The most impactful issue was the loss of Highsmith, which they knew about all week. The Colts were smoking them early even before Herbig got hurt.

Since I can only assume you are speaking of moi. Since this post follows my total kick ass of a post. Would like to to debate the the ever evolving definition of a blitz.

we weren’t producing pressure in there the whole time Herbig started. If your suggestion Highsmith not being in there is the reason for our lack of pressure that simply isn’t true. Herbig may actually be better at rushing the passer.

the bottom line is you have to adjust. This is one of the better offensive lines and in addition the refs weren’t calling the holding so you have to be innovative and adjust with different blitzes.

by the way Tomlin is the DC.

the most gender played well. Yes they made mistakes but they put up 24 pts. In addition the expectation level is significantly lower on the offensive side of the ball on this team at this point if the year.

the offense has rookies, new coach, new qb and injuries all over the place. The defense is tenured, highest paid in the league with the same scheme for decades. So yes I absolutely place more accountability on the defense.

Yup. It’s more about using the brain than using the legs. It’s impossible to prove that we would have won if Richardson stayed healthy because he did get injured. However, I believe 100% that we win that game if Richardson plays the full game. He started hot, but he has proven himself to be wildly inconsistent and mistake prone. Flacco played great ball. To be sure, our defense laid an egg as well with more missed tackles and poor coverage assignments than I can count, but Flacco understood how to take advantage.

Its Hot Dog (formally Popcorn) Tomlin's scheme. Why doesn't he get more involved in what Austin is calling? Or did he?

They neutralized Watt. Maybe throw a blitz or two after a statue. Oh that s right his explanation was they were late in the tooth to adjust to Flacco  Although he has a stacked resume against him and should know his tendencies lock stock and barrel.

And how about the secondary? Soft like cream cheese that was sitting on the counter.

You change things up. Instead of waiting for something to happen. In game adjustments. Send a ILBer, safety, corner or Steely McBeam on some blitzes. Staying in the base defense sure didn't work. Obviously.
