Wake me when moving the ball counts for anything

outside if special teams the whole team crapped the bed.claiming the defense is the main reason is absurd to me.

A constant failure has been the lack of coverage over the middle. For years. Pass rush was a basic no-show and the middle got exposed.

Just may be that #56 is extremely important to the defense. Maybe a "Duh" comment, but I believe most fans figured no drop off with #51 replacing him and possibly even better. Not so sure that's the case.

Just one poor game. Doubt we'll see many others. I do see a few names that are up in arms over the loss that also had them winning less than 6 games for the season. I guess that's logical.

With Richardson, they were laying back waiting for the inevitable mistake.
With Flacco, they stuck with that plan. Old QB legs, Labeau would’ve said let the Blitzing begin! Hindsight, ya know…

That is a fantastic point. Makes a lot of sense to sh!t on the team before the season even begins, then those same dudes were digging the fact the team was 3-0. One loss and it's back to the worse team in the league. Talk about a really stupid rollercoaster to put yourself on.

Play more man and be more aggressive, especially on third and long. At some point you have to challenge the secondary to do their jobs, and bring everyone else.

TOMLIN sits in these soft coverage zones for an entire game when a team just picks us apart with in cutting intermediate passing routes. Doesn’t even try to change anything up just sits and watches like a deer in headlights. The defense was awful yesterday.

Pickens dumb loaf of bread fumble certainly didn’t help.

They were running to the left constantly, Herbig isn't Highsmith against the run, that is for certain.

I don't know what I want him to do, but he almost looks as if has no interest in what's going on in the field.

Of course that happens to Herbig....he has hardly played. Some of us @Formerscribe@Formerscribe , and myself were worried about this days before we played. And if You watch the game ....they picked on him, and everyone that tried taking that spot .

Exactly. A few of us had talked about this possibly being a problem days before the game....., and thats exactly what they did.

You must not have heard what Kieth Butker said before he retired. He basically conceded that stomping ran the defense and it was pretty evident he was involved at all levels.

If I owned the team I would probably start by hiring a head coach that doesn't take home time outs and has the testicular strength to hire a DC who will stand up his unwillingness to change a game plan when it ain't working. For Christ sake Beliacheck all but said it in that interview or analysis video that was up all over the internet. You had QB in the game that as a head coach has seen more then any other QB he has ever coached in thr NFL against (i dont know if this is fact but its gotta be close) and you were afraid to blitz him? Seems like some ones favorite term about fears sure pops its nasty bengal wearing jersey face up there. You blitzed a QB that was in grade school when old man Joe won his SB.... I'm sorry I praised him for not starting Wilson in Denver but if this game was not an absolute obvious reason to think Tomlin is ever go be anything but average as a HC then I have no hope for humanity or the picksburg stillers!!!!! I'll say it a million times, I hope my son grows up to be half the human being MikeT is but his talents in the NFL belong in the broadcast booth....

Disagree with your statement about sh!ting on team. It is just how we feel they will do this season. Doesn't mean we hate them. I predicted 7 wins because I think we need a QB. Had zero faith in Fields when we got him and didn't think Russell would last the season. I happy at a pig in poop right now being 3-1.

I have never met an NFL fan who doesn't go on a rollercoaster ride with their team. Come to my golf course and listen to Eagle fans.

I've stood pretty close to Tomlin during practices.
But it is Tomlin's thing... yet what is often missed, is they all meet and go over the plan.

a plan is fine but it has to fit what the players on the field do well and what the other team does to said plan. one size doesn't fit all. does he check with the other team to tell them don't do this or that against us because we didn't plan for it? :lolol:

Well, I can't say that the plan they come up with is right every time.
But it is not like Mike Tomlin calls his Defensive Coaches into the room and says, "this is the schema."
Mike Tomlin did earn his way as a Defensive mind - now that doesn't say he was the most successful, nor if his system is outdated.
Mike wants to run his version of the Tampa 2.. 3-4 Defense.
    His guys know the structure.

Now they are using the analysis tools to understand tendencies etc...
I don't know if they are any good at it, they were a little late implementing it.
But his staff is supposed to figure out which schemes work best against those tendencies and start implementing those during the week.

My thing is, I think Austin has gotten stale. Offenses know his tendencies too well.
His job is to insert new wrinkles to trick and exploit the offense, that doesn't seem to be working well.
He is also supposed to utilize sets which take advantage of players skills. You can put Tomlin in there too.
I see the Steeler Defense as stale.

Now if we want to move on from Tomlin, sure. He's coached an eternity in this league.
If he is unwilling to adapt to today's NFL, I'm for moving on too.

I look over at Washington. That franchise was as stagnant as any Lousanna gator infested swap... it was dead.
Quinn and Kingsbury, along with Harris the owner has super injected that franchise with smart moves, new ideas etc....
We may be in that old boat in the swamp?

is he trying to be smarter than the analysis? teams use analytics against our tendencies too. they seem to game plan around what they expect from us and we don't change from the set gameplan. whether it's working or not. we are stale on defense i agree.

MT seems to put too much faith in his personnel additions more than the what if a team does this or that. we have built around a couple players strengths and don't alter that to a fault. he may say he doesn't live in his fears but i believe his DC does. he seems to plan for the run or the pass and doesn't change from it. against the colts we didn't stop the run or the pass. if we are going to gameplan to stop the pass playing a lot of nickel then stop the pass. we didn't. stop one or the other. they have to start with one and work on the other as it come to them. we seem to have games of no answers either way. change personnel groupings if need be to adjust. that they don't do.
