I think that Butler will not be the DC next year, predicted by not having his contract renewed. Who do you like if he goes to lb coach or moves on?

They would probably have to hire a outside guy to coach the OLBs, I don't see anybody on the staff taking over.

haha no worries, I'm in the same boat. I wasn't trying to be sarcastic...

IF Butler did get canned, I'm sure they'd just give the reins to Austin

I wish Butler would be OK just being the Linebackers coach again. I think the reason for Buds improvement is mainly because Butler is focusing on the Backers.
I do like Austin as a new DC. I wish Troy P. had an interest in coaching. I think if he did, he would grow into a special defensive coach. He was one of the smartest players ive ever seen play. Of course he would start out at a smaller coaching job until he gets a hang of it but i dont think it would take long.
Imagine if Austin was the DC, Butler was just the backers coach and Troy P. back in the secondary coaching up Nelson and Minkah.
    Id like that.

I think Minkah is already coaching.

No, no more ex Steeler coaches, please.

We didn’t even hire the good ones...Woodson and Greene. Can we admit that hiring ex-Steelers from the 90’s as coaches was an utter failure.

Troy wasnt from the 90's, plus i would agree with all other ex Steelers but Troy was something different. Like i said smartest player i ever seen play the position.

How can you let him go after the season that this defense has had? I think he gets a contract for at least 2 years. I know that there is a lot of talent on this defense, but it has absolutely carried us this season. With the myriad of injuries we have had to key offensive players, the defense has had to win us games and they have. If we manage to make the playoffs (a real possibility as we are really in the drivers seat at this point) I think he gets extended no questions asked. Now our offensive coordinator on the other hand... I think he gets a pass for the injuries this season, but if he cant produce next year with a healthy Ben we could be looking at a OC hire.

He will “retire” only to come out of retirement after a few weeks and sign with the Cardinals

Funny how some look at this season and forget about all the mediocre ones with Butler. Same applies for Alvin.

    Move on from both.

!0 1st round picks on this defense.

Butler is a capable LB coach. How capable is certainly open for interpretation. He was the heir apparent to be the DC when Dick LeBeau either retired or moved on, which was much longer than I think even the Steeler brass thought as it turned out. Maybe he felt passed over after Tim Lewis was fired. Either way, the situation has the appearance of Steeler management rewarding the guy for loyalty. That last statement obviously is an oversimplification, but I'd be alright if they simply moved on from Keith Butler.

I didn’t think about it until now, but I think you have a good point. They normally don’t like to terminate coaches under contract, but this is one that may not be renewed.

you could change the title from "Equine medicine" to "Steeler's Fan Reaction" and the treatments would remain the same for many of the perceived problems (diagnoses).. :lolol:

Venable or fickle might be a couple to look at. Ohio state has two dcs that may be worth a look. The guy we brought in for a week to beat the patriots last year as LB coach. That tackling dummy that is remote control with a head set on could be in the running over butler.

We have to move on from ray Sherman as wr coach.

    No ex players.

I want seasoned coaches with proven resumes at these positions. We were able to get mann, Mumbai and drake before, do it again with some coaches that will make a difference.
