I must say, Im looking forward to seeing Mr. Spence running around out there on the field. Its been a long road for him so Im sure he's going to be stoked for the game. I'm hoping he's some what of the player he was becoming before the injury. Also, looking at J. Jones, I know he's only playing a few series but looking to see if he's playing faster this year. Last year he was a reaction player, this year he needs to be an attacking player. Hopefully, he is feeling comfortable in the D this year and things are slowing down for him..Last but not least, the D-Line. This is where we win or lose the game. Everyone knows it starts in the trenches and we need this group to be dominant at the point of attack this year. With Cam Heyward leading the way, I think we are in a transition to a very athletic line, that is faster and enjoys going hunting for QB's. So on Sat, I would like to see the DL be more physical and dominate Ny OL..and with Ny OL it shouldn't be that hard. Lets go ! Who ride ..We ride!! BTW..QB's season opens on Sept 4th..:applaud::lolol::this!:

I'm going to try and watch our O-line. (if I get to see the game at all). This will be their first opportunity as a group to start together and the cohesion needs to be there.
Our secondary also needs some tweaking. Not just the safeties getting used to where the other will be and how they play but all of our young CBs. Granted they shouldn't see a lot of reps during the season but one injury and any one of them could be a main contributer.

I probably won't be watching but I'm hoping that Landry Jones does well and shuts up some of his critics.

Of all the players to pick on I'm not sure why so many are so obsessed with the 3rd string QB?

I'm mostly interested in the new starters or potential starters like Shazier, Tuitt, Cam Thomas, Wheaton, etc.

    1. OLB - Interested in seeing what JJ does in his 2-3 series against the Giants' woeful left tackle(s). Then I'll be interested in seeing if we have anyone else who shows promise, especially Moats.
    2. CB - I expect guys like Blake, Green and Richardson to get a lot of playing time against the Giants. How will they look? We may need more than 1 of those 3 guys to play quality minutes this season.
    3. The battle for D line depth - we know that Heyward, Tuitt and McClendon are locks to make the roster. I also suspect that Cam Thomas is safe whether or not he looks good Saturday night. Beyond these 4, I see an interesting battle of promising prospects, especially at DE. There simply won't be enough roster spots for Arnfeldt, Williams, Mauro and McCullers to all make the 53 man roster. They, and a few other long shots, will be going all out to show what they've got.
    4. The battle for the 4th and 5th (maybe even 6th?) WR spots.
    5. I am, of course, also interested in seeing our other rookies who may get serious playing time like Shazier and Tuitt. However, in general the only thing I need to see from our starters tomorrow night is NO INJURIES.

For many of us, it's not the player per say but the position and rd taken. There were other players still on the board that I feel would have made bigger contributions. I actually think he can be a pretty decent QB, hope we don't have to find out anytime soon.

    Good list :applaud:

Everyone loves the backup QB. Are you old enough to remember Terry Hanratty?

I think people pick on him because he was anointed to be Ben's replacement when he was drafted, and some even thought that he could start over Ben last year.

Perhaps also fans are used to having reliable backups at QB, like Charlie Batch for so many years, that it might be unnerving having someone like Jones who hasn't shown much if anything.

Like many others- Spence. Kid hasn't played in two years, so this is huge for him. His drop back speed might be an issue, but I'm just looking forward to seeing how he looks in live action.

Archer. Hopefully this kid gets a chance to show off his speed.

The receivers group in general. Wheaton, J. Brown, Bryant, and Moye.

The depth behind Jarvis and Worilds. Moats, Chris Carter, Howard Jones, and Vic So'to.

Tuitt and the backup d-linemen. I want to see how Arnfelt, N. Williams, and Mauro handle themselves tomorrow night. McCullers may intrigue me most out of the reserve linemen.

Mike Adams. I expect he'll get a decent amount of playing time, and I want to see if his technique has improved with Munchak's tutelage. Sure, there's been plenty of bad about him coming out of camp, but let's see where he's at in a game.

The starters aren't likely going to see much playing time tomorrow, and I'd be surprised if Shazier plays at all. Personally, I'm more interested in getting a good long look at the backups.

Most of all, I want to see the team walk away injury free.

No cherry picking game 1, won't be enough from each player to make an evaluation of sort. Want to see intensity lots of it and agree with TTF let's get out of Metlife healthy!

Like everyone else here I am looking for no injuries. I am intrested in seeing all the rookies but I really want to see the second year guys like Wheaton and JJ (Spence as well even though he's basically a rookie). These guys really need to step up and quick. They have had time in our system and have played in preseason and some regular season games.

The rookies are going to be enamored by the big stage they are about to step onto. I beleive it's similar to the UFC; you can fight in big matches on TV and around the world but there isn't anything (Even college) that is close to the NFL or UFC stage for these guys. For this reason alone I'm not going to panic if the rookies start off slow tomorrow, however, the second year guys need to come out strong!

Can't wait for September, Here we go Steelers!!!!

I would post a list, but it would basically be identical to this one.

I don't remember if anyone was saying that (but my memory is awful). I think some were defending the high draft pick because they thought it was time we started prepping a possible replacement, but I don't remember any hype around Jones in the way there was with, say, Shamarko.

I want to see Howard Jones... he has definitely got "the look" of a good pass rusher. I want to see if he pushes Carter.

I was at the training camp yesterday, sitting on the bleachers at the 50 yard line. The team spread out over the 3 fields (the kickers even went to the turf field for a while). Thus, I got to see a lot of the offense and not as much defense as I had hoped. There was also less hitting than trips before. Perhaps because of a game being two days away. Anyway, based on what I saw, here is what I would like to see on Saturday:
QB - Ben is our guy. Jones is slow in decision making even on the practice field, is there a competition between him and Kay?
RB - Bell looked great, I want to see Blount take some carries. Archer - he didn't separate himself from the pack on Thursday, can he do it against the G-men? With Bell and Blount getting 20-25 carries a game, that leaves maybe 3 for Archer. If he can't make himself useful during those 3 carries and his special teams play, then this is a wasted pick. I would have preferred in the 3rd round to grab a LG.
WR - Wheaton and Bryant - they will both make the 53 man roster and both get a hat on gameday. So I want to see how they do against some competition. I expect them to stay on the field longer than Ben does. Lance Moore will help this team win games, I don' t need Sat night to convince me of that. J Brown looks like he will jump over D Moye in the depth chart. But with AB, MW, LM, & MB will the winner of this competition even get a hat on gameday? Thus, I'm more interested in the maturity and abilities of MW and MB.
OL - After two years, we finally get to see DeCastro and Pouncey play side by side, here's hoping it stays that way all year. Has Gilbert improved? Where is the left side of our OL? Will they contribute to this teams success? Or are we stuck running to the right and having Ben run for his life?
    TE - Heeeeeath.

DL - Will this unit establish some chemistry?
OLB - Has JJ improved? Will JW be healthy. How is our depth?
ILB - Lots of potential, perhaps the biggest competition on the team for the backups.
S - Our first look at Mitchell.
CB - Please Gay, don't hurt us.

I honestly don't think either one of these statements is true... Lol

But in the spirit of the thread, I'm really excited to see some of our newcomers in uniform. C. Thomas, Mitchell, and some of the rookies (Archer and McCullers in particular). I hope my buckeye Shazier plays too, but we will see! Spence is also a pretty obvious choice to have an eye on too. Here's to hoping we stay healthy! Go burgh!
