The one position not upgraded was HC.

Face it, the "Beat Your Man" gameplan doesn't work in the playoffs. Too many good HCs that can scheme to defeat your best players.

Everyone want more than that, this is for sure but I don't think we could call it unacceptable if the Steelers are a divisional round exit, as if the Steelers still need to make major changes.

Of course, it depends on the context... If the Steelers beat only a weak wild-card opponent only to get demolished in the next round, it won't be good, but if they play against great teams and they were competitive but they lose in a very close game in the divisionnal round or afc title game, I'll be disappointed with the result like everyone else, but I'm not going to ask this time for a major change in the coaching staff, players, or front office as if it were unacceptable.

44% of the teams make it.

    almost half

this is nothing to set as a goal.

this board seems goal-less in general

no - a playoff WIN would be big hurdle for Tomlin.

    but he can't do that.

rodgers, slay, warren, austin, seumalo, miller, holcomb, thornhill, killebrew, ekuale, loudermilk, conner heyward, clark, cook, scharping, pierre and could be several others depending on cuts. then guys in their final years of contracts for 2026, porter, queen, harrison, cam heyward, benton, echols, smith, rudolph, skowronek, gainwell, jones and a few others. the turnover of players is large the next year or two so just playing to get better or competitive will change greatly. so what will getting a game more competitive really mean when the roster will change so much? this same team will look far different from the one that may or may not get us a playoff win. then what is acceptable? next year we go back to square one? if you don't think this year is they're best chance to go further than we are going back rinse and repeat. so no one playoff win this year is not acceptable and not a building block. the same guys won't be here long.

I would be happy with progress meaning at least the second round of the playoffs this year. The tough part is if we don’t win our division which is highly likely there is a good chance you are at Baltimore Buffalo or KC rd 1.

Baltimore is being regarded as the best team in football heading into the season. Tall task.

I know the Ravens have **** the bed in the playoffs under Lamar but they have been pretty damn good in the regular season. Lamar is the MT of QBs.

I understand your point, and like I said, I always want to win a Super Bowl every year.

But to say it's unacceptable is just too strong a word for me... Like it was disappointing that the 1990s Steelers never won the Super Bowl, but I can't say it wasn't acceptable since they came close on several occasions, but they only lost to better teams like the 1995 Cowboys and 1997 Broncos, and that was with very poor QB play at the worst possible times... But yes, I understand if you call the 1994 AFC Title Game unacceptable, since it was a bad loss...

It would be like the Steelers losing at home in the AFC Title Game against the Colts and Daniel Jones this year... It would be a huge missed opportunity... But if it's against the Chiefs, Ravens, or Bills, it wouldn't be unacceptable!

I have to put making the playoffs is an acceptable result. I expect more but that's because I'm an optimist. Winning or losing a first round playoff game doesn't move the needle for me though.

I'm afraid to tell you that we all don't share the same feelings on it, and I'm not saying that to be mean, but truthful. I promise You if we win one playoff game only this year, I will not be one bit happier than I was last year. Just because You feel a certain way does not mean we all do, and I say this with most respect I can.
Once we make the playoffs the only thing that will make me happy is reaching the SB. Never one time in me watching since the 70s have I said, oh we won a couple of playoff games , I'm happy.
Ok that's a lie, when Ben made it to the AFC Championship as a rookie I was, but only because he was a rookie Qb, and when Maddox went down, I didn't expect much, but that's the only time. If we had a Rookie HC, or a rookie Qb playing for us I can see being happy for a playoff win, but outside of that . No.

Some people have trouble with believing that there is a stepping stone to winning SBs when History clearly shows it does not.
The average roster turnover is 40 -60% a year. That is one of the reasons there is no stepping stone. Matter of fact. To the people that believe its so.....How many playoff games did we win the season before we won our last SB???
I give you a hint. We went two years straight without a playoff win.

If the AFC Championship is not a stepping stone for winning the Super Bowl.... then explain '04 and getting to the Super Bowl after the AFCCG disaster in '94.

Nobody said it hasn't happened(also we didn't win that SB, we lost),but History shows its not a thing.
We went 2 years without a playoff win before our last SB win.
Would You like to bet real money on this so called stepping stone, and I've already have done the work. I can give you 6 teams for everyone you can give me .
For it to be so, every team that ever made a NFC, or AFC Championship would have had to make a SB within a few short years, and History show that is not the fact.

Didn't Mahomes/Chiefs make the AFC Championship vs Patriots the year before they won their first SB? The Dee Ford game which they almost won?

As things stand today, in the real that we live in, Steelers have no hope in hell (the world we don't live in... yet) of winning the SB.

Therefore, to have a realistic acceptable goal, I'll be very happy if Steelers win a single play off game.

If in October, Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Borrows and pretty much most of the other starting QBs are out for the season, and Rogers is still going strong, then I would raise what's acceptable to two playoff wins.
