Hey, it's just my opinion, but what I would love to see is this- we trade down in the first to get a later first and an early second. We take the LB out of OSU, and without looking his name is escaping me now? Shazier? We then snag a CB as there are gonna be a lot of talent on the board I these spots due to the QB run this year. So, in the first 40 picks we snag to 1 st rd grade players, and fills two major holes on this team.

While Shazier may be rated in the #20-30 area right now, I fully expect him to rise to the #10-#15 area when everything is said and done. His athleticism and instincts are reminiscent of Troy Polamalu coming out of school.

I'm not sure I'd put him at that level yet. there were games he was invisible. like against Clemson to name the latest. these ILB'ers always seem to be ranked high and then drop near draft time. maybe we move down and one drops in our lap. how cool would that be?

While in a 3-4, Shazier would be considered an ILB, in a 4-3, he is everything you want in a WLB, and we have definitely seen these type of guys go in the Top 15. Certainly the Clemson game was his least productive of the year, he still managed 9 tackle, including 7 solo. Certainly a game tape to watch again to see why he was less of a factor. Regardless, he made big plays in just about every other game this year.

I'm not saying he's not good. he's had other games he's disappeared in too, but still has some tackle numbers in, just not much in the way of splash plays or game changing plays. then he'll have a couple that he is everywhere in. I still think he's 3rd in line for my liking behind c.j. mosely and kyle van noy. they are all fairly close though. I sure wouldn't hate one of them dropping into our laps in the 2nd. I don't hate attouchu's game either. he's played well in a 4-3 and a 3-4 for GT.

How well do these fellows transition
to the pro game, THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION. I do like his motor. He was a disappointment against Clemson.
I really don't like Buckeye players.

Shazier will make an easy transition. He is athletic and his instincts are fantastic. You can't coach either of those things. I would be stunned if ol DL isn't standing ontop of the table pleading for Shazier.

my theory in watching him in that game was most of his tackles were on the dive plays. he seemed to really struggle in space. Clemson has a ton of speed all over the field and can make anyone look bad but on a few plays he just looked slow. he isn't very good in coverage but neither was Williams and by the end of the year he improved greatly. I just don't think its that big a need for a first round pick

I agree. except he's not slow for a LB, but if we are going to take one, I'm leaning more towards a guy that can play inside and out and preferably the right side. van noy, attouchu kind of fit the bill. more in the 240-245 and above range. yes Williams got better every game and garvin made some strides. so much depends on Woodley and worilds though. art2 said they would try to sign worilds.

This Van Noy kid is intriguing, I want to see more
of him. Again all depends on what the Steelers do with Woodley and Worilds. I personally
feel that Worilds will be playing for another team.

The Browns have picks 26 (late 1st) and 35 (early 2nd).
Not likely to happen, but an answer to your question.

maybe Cleveland passes on a qb with first pick and needs to trade up to get him at 15. I would love to drop back. not likely that they would trade with us but nice to dream. a great draft would be get ha ha at 26. Benjamin at 35 and Christian jones at 46

Maybe Cleveland takes Manziel at #4, then trades up with the Steelers @ #15 to grab Evans? Surely something they would consider if they take Manziel at #4.

If we take Van Noy, can we get someone to teach him how to tackle without lunging and missing a couple of times per game? The kid makes some great plays, to be sure. However, he gives them back quite a bit. We had a lot of that on our defense this season.

I don't get the love for Benjamin on the MB. He drops a LOT of passes.

Yeah, I was disappointed when I learned that about him. The rest of his game is pretty good though.

I agree. Matthews is better but for some reason people love him because of his size. I will say this about him. he drops a lot between the 20's, he doesn't drop any in the endzone. I think its just concentration with him. maybe its something he can work on

are you serious? :bscow: teams assign 2 and sometimes 3 guys to block him. not to mention played through injury for a good part of the season in 2013.

he's all over the field as an OLB, either side, ILB and sometimes goes out to cover receivers as a safety would. he creates plays constantly.

when your around the ball and making plays as much as him, your gonna miss a tackle once in awhile. name me a player who hasn't? it's definitely not near as much as you are making it out to be. not even close.

he even plays ST's too and makes plays. for 3 years in a row now, he's had at least 1 play in every major defensive stat there is on record. 5 defensive TD's too.

he's one heck of a player and would most definitely make your defense much, much, much better. this kid can do it all, and has for 4 straight years, and in a 3-4. he's one of, if not the best all around LB coming out in a long, long time. I wouldn't mind BYU's safety either. Sorensen.

I'd love him as a second rounder, not as a first.

I'm with you Numbah. Too many people see 6'5'' 235, and freak out haha He doesn't possess enough skills as a "wide receiver" to be a viable option for our offense. I don't really seem him as anything more than a WR4 red-zone specialist in the NFL. We need a WR2, so we can put Wheaton in the slot. Guys like Evans, Lee, Mathews, Moncreif, Abrederis, and Coleman would all be much better options at the position.

I've been looking into Mathews more thanks to TTF, and I'm really starting to like him A LOT. I know his stock depends on his 40 time, but from watching his highlights and the re run of the bowl game, I dont think speed is an issue for him.

All he does is catch touchdowns 15 of them last season. He's a mismatch against any CB and a redzone target.

I am serious Mac, but it was a bit tongue in cheek because I think his tackling issues can be corrected and he could be an impact player. I think the way I would put it is that he plays the ball better than he plays the ball carrier. He definitely has great instincts and finds the football. As a tackler he needs work. He makes a lot of false lunges and he doesn't look like a particularly powerful tackler either. I do consider him a legit 1st round prospect because it's much easier to teach a guy how to break down and tackle properly than it is to teach a guy top notch football instincts. However, I need to watch more of him before I could slot him into the #15 slot. Right now I think his value is more in the 20-30 range. I would take CJ Mosely over him in a heartbeat and not look back if he were available at #15. There's a guy who can tackle and severely limit yards after contact.
