What former NFL player would make a good OC for the Steelers?

Yes.

The man with the most say is Rooney because he controls the budget for assistant coaches. The Steelers typically do not pay their assistants as much as other NFL teams nor do they have as many assistants.

 

I have heard that. But is it rumor or truth

 

Just for arguments sake: Tommy Maddox

- hard worker
- made it back to the nfl after a what? Two year hiatus to become comeback player of the year
- helped and supported Ben when Ben replaced him, very unselfish guy
- no idea if he’s even interested in coaching but I think he would be a good OC if he wanted to go in that direction

 

I mean the number of assistants is fact. I believe the radio guys on The Fan read off the totals a few weeks ago.

The pay thing has been talked about for years. While there is no hard data that I have personally seen, the media insiders have been confident for years that Rooney seems to cheap out on assistant coaching both in number and pay.
