The last thing you want to do is move TJ around when facing Lamar Jackson, or Jayden Daniels.

Well they have got to do something different. If Baltimore chip and double him all day blitz from his side, make them pay.

Is that the year? Yeesh… That was UGLY! I was sooo psyched for that year and that game and they just dog walked us.

I call that the “Cut Block Game”. We had no answers on offense and were flat footed.

Was that the year and game that Pouncy got rolled up on?

Oh, don’t get me started, there is plenty to stuff to complain about, but it’s very nice to feel good again.

Some things still feel right in the universe when we are battling for first with the Ravens, the Bengals are middling and Brown are bringing up the rear. Oh, and the DallASS Crygirls and their ridiculous fans are full of hot air and still annoying and bloviating sporting a poor record.

I also gotta say that I have to admit that being a huge Tomlin critic the last many years 5+ that it seems he has really pulled things together pretty well.

Getting rid of Canaduh, having a decent QB can do wonders. Kahn has really provided him some great kitchen equipment to cook with.

I take my hat off to him this season and will even have to eat some crow this Thanksgiving if we beat the crowd this weekend.

I feel like Tomlin is being more aggressive on defense now because he isn’t worried about being down by a score or two because he has trust in Wilson. By being more aggressive on defense I think our defense will be better. We took some major risks in that last game and we were beat on some man to man coverages that could have gone for a touchdown (Sutton got beat deep across the middle) but they didn’t connect. Fitzpatrick has been late on some of those deep middle balls. At the end of the day if you have the coaching, the Qb and are relatively injury free that is the formula to go far. I think we have that right now. I am not saying we are better than Baltimore, KC, Philadelphia or Detroit but I think we have a chance against them as well.

No do not blitz him. Thats a recipe for disaster not some cure all. Do not expect a bunch of sacks from the olb this weekend. They have to keep contain and set up the edge. Make no mistake our defense is facing a major challenge this weekend. Lamar is a weapon. Henry is a weapon. Flowers is a weapon. That tight end is a weapon. We have our hands full on Sunday. Do not be surprised if our newly acquired olb plays far more snaps than Herbig. Do not be surprised if Peyton Wilson has a very limited role either

correct - as it should be. We will realize we are good, but have not really beaten a stellar team - the Rats are one of those teams.

I used to think blitzing him was bad as well. But based on the analysts review of our game plan against Washington I think it will be similar against the Ravens. Alot of press man coverage but alternate into a zone to throw off the timing and give him different looks. Alot of five man fronts dropping into coverage and only rushing four or more of a hybrid blitz in that you blitz specific gaps to maintain gap control and keep him bottled up. The big thing is pass rush lane integrity and gap contain. The OLB’s have to make sure Lamar does not get outside of them either in pass rush or RPO etc. The MLB’s have to cover multiple gaps in both the run and the pass because of Lamar’s ability to scramble.

The issue is it really leaves the Safeties exposed in the middle of the field because the MLB’s aren’t dropping as deep because of their multiple gap responsibilities and underneath coverage. Minkah in particular has to be on his “A” game. Lamar is a big time stresser for Minkah based on how we play them in defense and what we ask of Minkah. Its a big reason why I think Minkah was late on that deep crosser where Sutton got beat against Washington. Fortunately it was overthrown. We aren’t going to have that luxury against Lamar. The front seven really has to play disciplined. If one guy gets in to quick without the rest of the guys having gap contain and the Edges having the outside continued it can flush Lamar out for a big run. In addition when you play man you have to force the incompletion or get to the QB or it can result in a big play against your defense either in the run or a QB scramble. Our issue with man is we keep getting called for PI. It is very frustrating because the Legion of Boom and the New England defenses used to get away with alot more (being handsy) than they seem to allow today. The one exception is KC still seems to be allowed to play man aggressively without being penalized. Just like they do with false starts and holding on the offensive line, but that is another discussion.

If they allow JPJ to play aggressively and aren’t ridiculous with the PI calls we will win the game. If they are egregious in calling PI calls they better darn well be consistent and call holding calls on Baltimores Offensive Line because we know there will be plenty. That was my issue in the Washington game. They called the PI calls on the Steelers, but they did not call the holding calls on Washington. If your gonna be overly aggressive with the flags then call it both ways. We were fortunate to overcome those but I don’t think we can beat the officials and Baltimore as well.

I don’t know what to think about Peyton Wilson this week. He is a real asset with his speed on the inside blitz and covering the flat and Te’s which we need in this game but he isn’t as good on runs defense which we also need. He would be a good neutralizer against their TE’s underneath though.

It is a really hard offense to defend. Lets hope if we struggle to contain them that perhaps we can outscore them.
