Most of what I know about KJ goes out the window because he hasn't shown any of it yet in the pros. It hurts my soul to admit out loud that he may be a bust but unlike many around here, I don't have any problem admitting when I'm wrong about a player. Blast may have been right and Scattebo should have been the pick.
Here's what I will say about his time in college. He really did look faster than his 40 times led you to believe. He had a lot of break away runs and despite what some here will tell you, that wasn't always due to blocking. In fact, the o-lines he ran behind weren't as solid as years past. They weren't terrible but they weren't road graters. A lot of those runs came off of KJ's vision. Blocking scheme didn't hurt in that respect as well.
He also runs more physical than he has shown in the pros, having numerous runs where he was straight up running over guys, which he more or less had to do because he's not a quick twitch guy.

Obviously his main shortcomings being his pass protection, and his receiving ability really stood out in the pros because that is not what they used him for at Iowa. He was the main focus of the offense and they certainly weren't trying to drive the ball deep that much where he had to pick up blitzers.

The reality is that I've seen guys on here talk about watching his highlights and not being impressed so it's pretty hard to argue with someone who's seen a five minute highlight reel on YouTube versus someone who's watched nearly every snap of his college career. At this point though, there's simply not much to defend with Kaleb Johnson.

I will say that I've been rather disappointed with how they used him in his first season. Putting him back for kickoffs was ridiculous considering he had not done it since his sophomore season in college and even then he only returned a few kicks. Not to mention he simply doesn't have the body type, nor fast twitch speed necessary for returning kicks in the nfl. Anybody who has a modicum of knowledge about the NFL understands that running backs need carries in order to get in a rhythm and that was certainly never the case with Johnson. He got spot duty every great once in awhile and had to make the best out of each carry. At times he was blown up at the line and at times he had good gains but never was he any kind of focal point in the offense. We all know he was in the dog house the minute he flubbed up that kickoff.
I suppose if I was a betting man, I would bet that his time with the Steelers will be very short because I just don't see them taking a big chance on developing him.

Homer has 10 touches on offense combined over the past three seasons, seven rushes and six receptions. I'm not sure where you are getting this idea that he is a clone of Gainwell, who played a significant offensive role in Philadelphia before taking on a larger one in Pittsburgh last season. Yes, it is fair to assume that he isn't very good as an NFL running back. The guy has had seven years in the league to earn an opportunity to play more and hasn't been able to do it.

I'm not even sure why Harris is being discussed in this thread. The Steelers already signed a two-time 1,000-yard rusher to pair with Warren. Any other free agents they sign would have to be a guy like Homer, who can contribute on special teams. Harris would make no sense for a team that already has Dowdle and Warren on the roster.

That said, if you want to clutter the thread with an irrelevant tangent because you can't stop trolling, we can do that, too. This has no bearing at all on who was the better back from 2022-2024, when Harris was clearly better than Warren, which is why he got more snaps and touches. It has no bearing on last season, when I was proven right that Warren wasn't capable of taking on a lead back's workload, so it would have made sense to keep Harris relatively cheaply on his fifth-year option. (I never said they should extend him. In fact, I always argued against keeping him past 2025.) That he suffered a fluky injury shows some folks have 20/20 hindsight. At least one poster suddenly became interested in the wear and tear on Harris then. Never mind that he refused to acknowledge that as a potential reason why the Steelers might have let Harris go when I brought it up before last season.

If that summary is too difficult for you to follow, by all means, waste more space with your questions. I will try to help you out.

Skattebo was fun, but it didn't take him long to get injured. Also, he is an idiot.

always cracks me up when floating trades for unknowns or “bust”

unless Iowa’s RB coach is a GM for an NFL team that aint happening.

Height , Weight, Speed.. What fits them best in the run game ..What fits them best in the pass game.. Can he ever be as productive ?Who knows , but they are built exactly the same ..

Lets approach this another way .. KJ can't do anything better than our other 2 RB'S.. KJ proved in college he is not a good blitz pu guy and not a good pass catcher nor does he play ST'S ..Enter a RB who is a great ST who can catch passes and has more speed than all the RB'S , and his College style looks just like Gainwells who the QB bragged about over and over ...

So its not really a run him out of town thing it's I see no way for him to get a hat barring injury ,so do him and the Team a favor and get him into a better fit and try to get something out of it...
