What about this QB trade scenario?

The focus seems to be on trading Mason Rudolph prior to the start of the season for perhaps a 5th or 6th round pick. Many on this board have opined as such as well.

But what about this scenario; Trubisky seems to be the soup du jour of second tier quarterbacks currently and many analysts and NFL coaches and insiders seem to be in agreement that Trubisky was mis-used in Chicago. They also feel that he may be on the verge of resurrecting his once promising NFL career and living up to the potential of his overall number two billing. His stock is up so there could be a window of opportunity here.

If we could get a 3rd round pick for Mitch wouldn’t that be better than getting a 6th rounder for Mason? If Pickett shines in camp and legitimately wins the job, which is a very strong possibility, should the Steelers consider that option? Rudolph is a fine backup and quite frankly may be more accepting of a second fiddle role than Trubisky. Maybe the Steelers can convince him to stick around as the next Charlie Batch. Thoughts?

Don't know why anyone would give up a 3rd for Trubisky, unless Allen wrecks in preseason and Buff figures he gives them the best chance to win based on his performance last year. No one's giving us a 5th for Rudolph. Maybe a sixth if we give them a seventh.

    Rudolph for a 7th (maybe)

Trubisky (even though I don't want him traded) would be worth a 5th or 6th.

How about we let the QB battle play out? We have four young, hungry guys in camp. Somebody will emerge.

Lay off the booze or drugs or whatever you’re taking.
Trubisky was a FA that could’ve signed with anyone. Why would anyone give a 3rd round draft pick for him?
    WTF

I think they will let Rudolph just walk. His dead cap is 1.040 M. Save 3 mill. You ain't getting shat for him.

Are you guys forgetting that the Jags traded a 5th for Josh Dobbs who was not nearly as highly touted coming out of college? The LEAST I’d take for Trubisky would be a 4th. Let’s say Trubisky plays well in the preseason but Pickett wins the job. Some quarterback hungry/desperate team may pay up. I don’t think a 3rd would be unrealistic in that scenario. I realize it’s a long shot hypothetical, but crazier things have happened and that’s what we talk about on this board, lol.

Let’s say the Giants realize at the end of pre-season that Daniel Jones just ain’t the guy. We know the relationship their new head coach has with Mitch. The reports were that he really wanted him to sign with the Giants and raved about his progress last year in Buffalo. What do you think he might be willing to give? In that scenario, maybe he wouldn’t give a 3rd (maybe he would) but he’d at least offer up a 4th don’t you think?

Have you forgotten 2020 already? If Pickett earns the starting job fine, but how many guys careers are side tracked by throwing them out there to early.

They signed Mitch for a reason. He did not ***** when they drafted a Qb. He realizes he is not our future, but he does have an opportunity to redeem his career. Let it play out. If he balls his trade value will only increase, if Pickett wins the starter job a guy with Mitch's experience will be valuable, it is a very long season.

They don’t know which one of these guys, Pickett or Trubisky will be any good. They have to keep both and let it play out.

I’m wondering what the heck happens if Trubiksy has elevated his game to the QB they thought he would be coming out of college. Do they pay him next year and have a first rd draft pick as a backup?

If both light it up, then you just trade one next season, thats easy.

I think there will be some robust competition for the starting job and that’s a good thing. And MR is a quality backup even though I don’t think he’ll contend for the starting role. If Chris O shows anything at all he may end up as no. 3 in multiple scenarios.

Maybe they all light it up and we trade them all to get one of these so-called elite qbs coming out in 23. You never know. Possible.

I’ve said it before, regardless of draft picks, they brought Mitch in to make Mason compete and not just assume the starting QQB role. People are counting him out too soon. However, if Pickett steps up I am all in on the rookie.

Some team would need to have an injury to their starting QB to give up a 3rd for Trubisky, they would be lucky to get a 6th for Mason.

I don't think the Steelers can trade anyone until they know who the hell is the 3rd string QB and that probably will not happen until the end of preseason.

They will not trade Pickett. Trubisky is here for 2 years. The hope is Pickett can take the reins next season or if Trubisky struggles this season.

They will need Trubisky for the 2 years I feel.

Here’s a little scripture that describes the Steelers QB situation:

    As iron sharpens iron,
    so one person sharpens another.
    Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)

Hopefully a little competition will make them all better.
