I don't know much about him other than he played in the Super Bowl and he took a knee during the national anthem to protest for racial equality. The guy is a good quartback, definetly far superior to Landry jones. I don't know if we have salary cap room for him, but I say bring him in. See what he's about.

No way I'm interesting in Kaep as a back up. Too much of a distraction.

    Yep.

Training camp cannot come soon enough.

Kaps antics with politics is just the tip of the spear as to why I do not want him.

Hes not a good QB, he's a bad QB. And he's all wrong for our system.

    No thanks.

Other than him being an un-American piece of crap, he'd be worthless to us.

This would be 100 percent correct Blast if only the hadn't signed Vick who was a worse QB and really didn't fit the system. So that kinda negates the point.

Just saying why they shouldn't but lets hope they've learned from that fiasco.

If our o line was what it was back when Ben was getting drilled every drop back I would be in TOTAL favor of signing him...

Funny thread. Lots of dislike for young Mr. Kaepernick out here. If I set aside 2 big issues, I think the answer is yes. My 2 big issues are

    1. Politics/protesting- not going there
    2. That it's clear that he sees himself as a starter, and even a star

Arguably, I think issue #2 would be more of a concern over time than issue #1. Setting those 2 issues aside, I think he would clearly be more capable of helping us win a few games in a pinch than Landry Jones. Frankly I don't think it's even close. If you look back at least season statistically, his numbers on a per game basis were similar to 2013 when he led the 49ers to a 12-4 record and a last minute loss in Seattle in the NFCCG. Last season he had 16 TDs vs 4 ints in 11 starts with a horrid receiving corps, and even managed a 90+ passser rating. Add to that 468 rushing yards and a 6.8 yard per carry average. I think that what he did very quietly over the last 11 games of last season was pretty decent from a football perspective given the limited talent around him on that offense.

Is he a long-term starting QB in the NFL? No. Is he a conventional QB who can win consistently from the pocket? No. However, that's not what we're talking about. We're not talking about Kap as a starter. We're talking about him as a backup. As a backup, he's a guy who has the proven ability to win football games, albeit in an unconventional way. As a conventional QB, he's terrible, and that's why you could never build a franchise around him. As a backup QB, I think he would provide a much better chance of stringing together a few wins that Landry Jones. It wouldn't be conventional, but it would pressure the defense in a way that they're not expecting from us.

The folks who hold up the Vick situation as evidence that it wouldn't work - we got Vick at age 35. Kap is 29. They are similar style QBs, but Kap is still peaking physically while Vick was long over the hill when we had him. Rewind to when Vick was 30, and he had a Pro Bowl caliber season in Philly.

Again, we're talking BACKUP QB, not long term starter. I think if it weren't for the 2 issues at the top of my post, Kap would be an awesome backup for us with his track record vs LJ. Again, I don't even think it's close.

No one argues he has skills, but it's all about his political protests that you dont want to go there: Fact is the fans went there and they detested his actions, teams wont sign him because they fear fan back lash, as was the case in seattle, they wanted to sign him but fan back lash nixed it, he is the NFLs Jane Fonda now and he wanted to go there so he can just live with it now, we dont need a back up we are beyond that now, we need to get bens replacement at the top of the list because that window is closing fast....We are going into camp with 4 QBs as it is....
