Roger did give Big Ben 6 games (down to 4) for something that he was never charged for or found guilty of. But, I'm thinking drugs, but usually when it's drugs they just come out and say it's drugs.

I bet it's a domestic violence thing. Wouldn't drugs be in the papers?

I totally agree with Snack about the keeping D. Johnson around bit. I don't have a hate for the guy like I did some others in the past, I just think it should be very easy to upgrade that spot.

That and he dropped what would have been the first down to close out the second ravens game. I'm still stinging over that.

Wow! 4 games for an unnamed offense. All we can do is speculate, but that doesn't sound too good. I like Saunders size and stature on the field. He seems to have decent hands and it would be really cool if we had a dude like Gronk. Not saying Saunders is a Gronk-type player. But if he is, hopefully our new OC will help develop and bring that out of him.

Easy there, the godfather comment was just a joke. Don't be so hyper-sensitive. Dang people's feelings are so delicate now days.

When I said roger goodell was a retard, I meant idiot, stupid, dumb, ignorant, slow, brainless, dense, insane...you get the picture. And i clarified just who I was talking about. Now the stay classy comment, that sounds alot like a cheatriots or ratbirds fan to me. You sure you're on the right board?? And besides, I find the words "stay classy" highly offensive. See how that works? Come on man, lighten up. We're all supposed to be STEELERS fans here.

I'm not saying he was, it just seemed like I had heard that this season.

I also find the use of the word 'retard' offensive. It is a negative word that slights a group through no fault of their own.

While I personally don't find the word offensive, I certainly respect the fact that people do and have edited that word out of my vocab purely out of respect. All he's asking is that you respect the fact that people find it offensive. After all, we are all Steelers fans here, so shouldn't we do our best to respect each other?

What was this thread about again? Oh yeah, that's right, it's about Weslye Saunders four game suspension.

    Anyhoo...

As far as Saunders is concerned, I really wonder how we'll use him under the new yet-to-be-named OC named Todd Haley. Saunders seems to have the tools to be a threat in the middle against LB's and big target in the EZ. But as an UDFA backup TE with 4 catches, who was mostly used as a blocker, we didn't really get to see him show his catching/running ability. I blame that on BA and how we have been misusing our TE's since he got here. That said, I don't know what Saunders is capable of. He is a monster of a guy and it would be great if the Steelers could develop a guy with his size and stature into a credible pass-catching threat. However, as un UDFA who is a backup, now being suspended for 4 games, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't asked to come back. And considering that besides Heath, our other TE, DJ, isn't a good blocking TE nor a good receiving TE, we suddenly become real thin at TE. What other TE's were on the PS this year?

When we all do find out I'm sure it'll be more than Roger just trying to pick on a Steeler. Ben's suspension was ultimately driven by public pressure and the negative media attention. The fact that nothing publicly came out about Saunders prior to the suspension announcement pretty much indicates the guy had a clear cut NFL violation of some kind and they're purposely not telling us in an effort to protect his privacy in which case it's most likely drugs or domestic violence as some of the other posters have suggested.

read on some blog that the first two offenses aren't published, only the 3rd (which then leads to the 4 game suspension)

guess with Holmes (and others) it only comes out because they are stoned out of their mind and post stuff on twitter/whatever that's beyond their usual stupidity :D

I read the same thing that the first 2 violations of substance abuse policy are confidential and suspension happens on third. It would be really odd for a guy who has only been on the team one season to get 3 substance abuse violations in a single season. Not impossible, but highly unlikely. I also read that a violation of the league's banned substance policy (roids) results in suspension on the first offense.

I saw a report saying it is a PED.

He is a good find, but if there is a really good TE sitting in the 2nd to 4th round that is too good to pass up, I'd still draft one.

Perhaps instead of yet another knee-jerk bellyaching about how Roger Godell is screwing the B&G, might we consider that Wesley Saunders actually did something wrong and merited his punishment as outlined in the CBA?

If it's drugs, as I understand it, you have to fail twice to get a suspension, the first gets you a warning. If Saunders failed two drug tests, I can't in anyway, shape or form hang that on Roger Godell.

true dat....Saunders has a bad rep. I'm not confident this kid has the head on his shoulders to stick around on the team for a long time.

I agree wholeheartedly. If you agree to particpate in something knowing full well the rules and you decide to break them, then you pay the piper. Not sure I would want a rookie UDFA BU who caught 4 passes back if he can't abide by such a simple rule like this.

I'm not saying he does or doesn't deserve it, but if this is the second time it happened, when was the first? Is the first time that results in a warning kept confidential?

I don't think I'd drop him for it. He's a good #2 that would have performed a lot better if he hadn't been #3 on the depth chart. I'll give him another shot. It also wouldn't affect my drafting.
