Just read on twitter the Steelers have moved Wes Lyons from WR to TE... which may have been the Steelers' plan all along because he's now at 260 pounds (up from about 235 in college).

That might actually make it harder for him to make the team than if he were a WR. Heath is a lock, and my guess is we go with Pope and David Johnson behind him, and maybe release one of those two once Saunders comes back from suspension. Paulson is a guy with a future here but will be on the PS at least a couple seasons.

If they asked him too...then fine...but this is a mistake IMO because he does not have the blocking ability...better to line him up and force Corners to try and cover

Maybe he felt he had more chance there than as a WR?

I'm intrigued at what his blocking skills are like.

From what ive read and seen blovking is one of his strenths. Add the weight and he could be very good. Thats a huge target in the redzone.

You can call him whatever you want but he'll be on the field in passing situations regardless. If they want someone to block they can put Heath or DJ out there.

My guess is he'd be mostly a redone specialist anyway (which is fine w/ me)

He did not look to have receiver feet to me. If he can block he may be the second best receiving TE on the team. Things are not looking good for Saunders. I am hoping for a H-back or full back to knock DJ off of the team; doubt this is the guy. The third TE will be a blocking back; number two has to have receiving skills.

will johnson is in that mix too. they have him listed as the lone FB. he's not bad with the ball in his hands either. he is also a former WR turned TE/H-back/FB. i like lyons but he's very tall for an in line blocker. also at 6-9 bulking up to 260 isn't like he's outgrown the WR spot. to me he seems like the new to come WR/TE hybrid. will johnson more of the H-back/FB type. i will say it looks like haley wants some hieght at receiver. lyons 6-9 , pope 6-8 both redzone mismatches. this is going to be interesting. i still say one of these guys, whether they are called a TE,H-back or FB or whatever, may take up one of the spots normally reserved for a RB or WR, thus keeping an extra TE basicly. it will put a little extra importance to the PS and keeping a ready reserve incase of injury.

Eh...not a big deal...low chances of making the team...but if he does...good for him.

From what I've read on here and other sites about him...and then what I saw of him last year...he had 1 good catch i remember...but thats about it...nothing stood out to be besides his height. But hey if he's improved enough to make the team this year...awesome...having a guy that size could be valuable...though if in fact he has moved to TE...and not WR...then his chances are slim to none. Basically he just didnt wow/thrill me to get super excited and such...thats why I'm like "eh"...not a big deal to me from what I've seen. If any year he's going to make the team (as WR)...its this year...or next year (if they do not keep Wallace).

I don't know why I've been inclined to pull for this guy since he's been here. I know it's been mostly his height, but I love when low tier players make good. This is a jam packed team though. If we didn't draft a TE this year I'd be all over this possibility. Now I can just hope they make the best decision.

i see on the official roster they have lyons at 250lbs. it's not like he's overly heavy now at 6-9. that's only 15lbs. more muscle. if he kept his speed he definately could be played at either spot. tweener TE/WR. lyons did lead us in receiving last year in the washington game in preseason. they seemed to target him alot. maybe this extra year and extra muscle will put him over the hump. it's a different OC now and maybe he will be used different.

They should keep him on the team just for redzone opportunities.

Insurance in case Saunders doesn't pan out?

    Great redzone size imo.

i actually think lyons has a better chance at making the final 53 then batch does now. i don't think they would blink an eye at practice squading batch this year.

Mac as usual your opinion is always a good one to listen to cause i've been thinking Batch doesn't make the roster im very interested in the competition to take place between him and rainey
