As fans we're so mad that all of a sudden the Bengals have a decent team and a good QB....

It takes a few years of sucking to get that QB in the top of the round when he's available.

Takes a few down years to clear yourself out of cap hell and be able to make some moves that get's you some key players.

Takes some down years to decide you want that new up and coming coach that has fresh ideas that work as long as they have those drafted players not under high contracts to fill out that roster.

Look at some of those teams a few years after having initial success with those things. How well have they held up over the course of 5-10 years?

Let's say somehow this team gets into the playoffs, now they're picking late again and don't have a shot at some of those linemen or QB prospects you'd think they'd need to tool it out. But, we'd be happy if they made it and won a playoff game or 2?

I think a Top 10 draft pick is doable. Maybe even Top 5 if things really fall apart.

I just hope the team when it does pick a Qb ....it Doesn't listen 2 a lot on this board that somehow think Speed, and Arm strength are the 2 major things.
Burrow was considered by many not strong enough Arm, or fast enough. LoL....Same with Mac Jones, but both of them Could process quickly, and react Quickly. Everything else is just Icing on the cake ...not the cake.

Yeah Mac Jones was my choice if he was there, but again a team that did worse last year picked him ahead of where the Steelers picked.

    Imagine that!

Over the last 20 years, the Jets have had nine selections within the top six picks overall. They've had 13 within the top 15 overall.

And they're on pace to get two within the top five in 2022.

Could be worse. Could be the Seahawks with a franchise QB in his prime, a returning OL that was the best in the league last year, a top 5 WR, a SS that they mortgaged the future for and a coach whom many think are one of the best. Yet they are looking at a record of 3-7 in a brutal conference. At least we have an aging QB and a ragtag OL to blame

OL was 16th in the league and Wilson missed 4 games this year.

The worst would be getting a high draft pick, and then trading down!

But would that be so bad if there’s no franchise QB there?

You do have a point, but despite having a good QB, the Bengals should still be beatable or at least a competitive game. But I don't even want this team to make a playoff push because it's pointless. We are trapped in Tomlin limbo and no matter what roster you put in front of him, it's obvious that it's never gonna work. That's what's so frustrating about it all.

Given the lack of depth on this roster trading down might not be a bad idea but it depends on how the board falls. If there is a franchise QB, LT or CB that they like in round 1 they have to take them IMO

I think they are headed for a top 10 pick, probably finish with 6-7 wins. The schedule is brutal from here and the defence that was the one thing keeping them in games has fallen apart.

Or the Giants. While I want Tomlin out, I could see us ending up like them now.

You are correct. I love how all the Tomlin bootlickers love to try and shame the Tomlin haters, but the guy has had many chances with many different variations of this team clicking and he mostly just fumbled it away. His best success was with a squad mostly built by the administration before him. Those are just facts.

    - His game planning has always been questioned the last 10 years.
    - His teams preparedness has always been questioned.
    - His clock management has always been bad. Add his time outs and challenges too.
    - His teams lack of kill over lesser opponents has ALWAYS been an embarrassing thorn in the side of us fans.

His ONLY saving grace is that he was blessed with a big goon of a franchise quarterback who was tough to bring down, paired with his like and skilled tenacity in the schoolyard style of play and GM who greatest gift is picking really good WR’s and letting “Ben be Ben” in so many huge moments.

If it wasn’t for that one major stroke of luck Tomlin would have been gone long ago. Tomlin has Ben to thank more than even the Rooney’s at this point.

Wanna know how good Tomlin is…? Just look at his coaching tree.

Ariens doesn’t count. He was working with Peyton Manning before he came to Pittsburgh and all his best work was done after the Steelers deemed his future as “retired”.

    What a miss that was!

And I don't know how ownership doesn't see this, unless bottom line they don't really care as much as the people watching or buying the tickets. This never fire a coach methodology is just so bizarre it's almost cult like.

Right? Like, when does a level headed philosophy transform into a stale POV that is loaded with arrogant inertia that is toxic to business?

When does agility go from being wild and reckless to being a Zen like Bruce Lee Ninja who move that uses the opponents unbridled over-aggression to slip him and land the deadly blow?

Maybe we were a bullish Mike Tyson but now need to be more Muhammad Ali and sting like a Bee.

This article is pretty spot on.

The first part of your statement WAS EXACTYLY my view of the organization pre Ben Roethlisberger from 1997-2004.

I used to think they were just fine being slightly above average getting a few playoff games here and there and dining out on the 70’s dynasty for all those years. They gave it a bit of a go with Cower early on and a sick dominating defense and then just seemed to phone it in after the deflating Cowboys loss.

The modus operandi seemed to play it safe for a huge chunk of years. They did that with running the ball to almost boredom, good defense but nothing splashy and stupidly trying to make Kordell a different kind of athelete than what he was. He should have been young Mike Vick 1.0 but they tried to make him some pocket passer and pour cement in his cleats.

Ben pretty much changed everything on offense and just in time for a new lights out defense hitting their stride.

It still took a few years to ween Cower off of playing boring and safe Martyball kicking easy FG’s all the time and building real leads in critical games and moments.

People forget about Cower’s Martyball mentality all these years later when it’s so easy to bash Tomlin who is fresh in front of us and not faded by time and lore.

But I don’t… Dude killed my heart a few times.

These exact things were said about Cowher every year.

Tomlins challenge success rate is on par with the top coaches in the league.

This don't appear to be a great year for qb's in the draft. Might need to fill in another hole and roll with Mason. Maybe?

Maybe you didn’t read my commentary about the Cower years 3 posts above this.

I don’t remember Cower being accused of playing down to opponents in even the same realm as Tomlin gets slammed for it. And for good reason.

Well, someone else recently posted how he is a few percentage points amongst the most respected coaches in the league. Still below them, but not nearly as how often as it feels like he swings and misses.

You just make up ish as you go along it seems like to me. You couldnt prove any of your points with facts. I most certainly guarantee it. What you feel and what's reality are two different things and you're a person that comes off as someone who is constantly in their feels making statements that go unsubstantiated. I havent seen you put numbers forth not once in one of your posts or provide a valid means of why you feel what you feel other than you dont like him. All you do is whine like a whiny azz kid repeating the same ish over and over again.

I've been predicting a good Bengals season for a while now. I think drafting Chase and firming up their OL were the final ingredients for a good run at the play-offs. With no injuries on either side I think on paper we give them a run for their money, but for them to sweep us wouldn't be out of the question.

I find that fans - in any sport, tbh - get stuck on how teams are at a certain point in time and imagine that to be their natural state. I started watching and supporting the Steelers in the 80s, and I'm still pleasantly surprised whenever we score points.
