after watching all his games this year, the kid did something that makes me love this pick. during the season he was solid don't get me wrong but at times during these earlier games when OSU offense was playing good but needed a spark, he would push some stupid not needed throws that didn't end well. he had a couple brain farts at times. now down the stretch and in the playoffs he quit doing that and was lazar focused playing as a well coached player. he didn't need to be superman and played the game he was capable of. it shows me he's very coachable. he can be very good if he doesn't get off track and pushes the game to spark the team when not needed. he will be solid. i like that he was willing to make that adjustment. shows mental ability.

i do believe he and mason rudolph can be coached well by arth. let's face it this may be the first time mason has had solid coaching as well. ben didn't help him. canada didn't help him. tennessee didn't help him. he was thrown to the wolves here before he was ready. i think he's in the best situation he has been in so far in his career. he's only been in the league for 5 seasons. i sure wish they would have kept kyle allen instead of skylar thompson but it is what it is. i think this group will out preform expectations. let's give our QB coach time to do what he does.

I don't hate the pick, especially for 6th round. However, I have a hard time getting overly excited about a guy who had 1 good season in college (Pickett, Trubisky), especially considering the massive talent (and payroll) that OSU had around him. His previous 3 seasons at K state, he couldn't win the starting job against Skylar Thompson or Adrian Martinez and only played because of injuries.

More importantly, the Steelers aren't exactly known as good QB developers. Name a QB not named Ben who the Steelers developed over the past 20 years. Howard was drafted as a backup, which makes 3 backup QBs on the roster. I will remain bearish on Howard magically becoming an NFL starting QB until we see it. And with the steelers coaching staff and QB development history, that's a long shot for Howard.

Why does Will Howard look like Kenny from "We're the Millers". You know the kid that got bit by a spider on his balls.

No, he wouldn't, but I am glad they didn't reach for Sanders or Dart.

Tom Brady couldn't outright win the starting job at Michigan, either. :)

in college knox the system isn't as friendly to some as others. joe burrow didn't start at OSU either. the system they ran at the time didn't fit him well. same as howard at K-state. skylar was a run first guy and that's what k-state does. skylar in the pros doesn't fit well now and howard does.

not saying you are wrong but lumping these circumstances as the only way it will transpire is not what may happen. tom arth our new QB coach really has not had a shot at bringing a QB along. you can't lump the steelers can't do this or that when they have added a coach like him but haven't given him the chance yet to do it. i do believe with mason and howard here to stabilize the situation may end up as a true test of the situation. we shall see of course.

    are you sure?

Nobody had predicted before the draft that Sanders would not been drafted in the first 2 rounds and he was drafted in the 5th round...Sanders is better that what Kenny was after the college so this is not crazy to think that Kenny would been available in the 3rd round if a better prospect at this position like Sanders was drafted in day 3...The first QB after Kenny in 2022 was drafted in the 3rd round...

When the other quarterbacks were drafted in 2022 is irrelevant.

Sanders really isn't better than what Pickett was at the time. Pickett also didn't have the red flags about attitude that Sanders does. If there are questions about your physical tools, you shouldn't act like an entitled jackass. Nobody explained that to Sanders.

The Steelers will always have trouble at developing a QB as long as they don't open up their offense like a real NFL team.

I don't think that if we had drafted QBs like Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and even Mahomes, they would have been as good with us in a Mike Tomlin offense that is way too conservative, lacking in creativity, and love too much the low-scoring games even in the killer b's era, I don't think they would have developed to their full potential.

This is why I said in the 3rd round for Kenny, not 5th round like Sanders was.Sanders was much better in the college that Kenny,Colorado was a complete dumpster fire for so many years and they were 9-3 last year I think.Kenny had only 1 great year in college and it was in his 5th year

Yes, time will tell. I'll be happy to be wrong if Howard does develop into our next franchise QB. The odds aren't in his favor, IMO. And until we see something different from this coaching staff, I'm in the skeptical camp.

I know I’m knocking the dust off of this but your first paragraph pretty well describes Bradshaw

Yes. Comparing Howard to Bradshaw seems a bit premature to me. TB was also a 1st round pick.

It makes no difference what the talking heads had to say. They aren’t the people out there scouting these players for years. As always when a player falls in the draft it’s only a surprise to the fans and the media

i hope people aren't expecting this offense to be a machine coming out of camp. i don't think that will happen. there will be some mistakes. fixing those mistakes and not having them happen again and again during the season will be how we judge our new QB coach. if he can build these two into good and maybe not great QB's will be a success i think. this will be a complete offense hopefully, relying on not just one guy but as a unit. this seems to be what it's setting up as.

I feel bad for this kid. He's coming to a front office and coaching staff that have zero clue about developing a rookie QB. In fact, they usually hang them out to dry.
