Was on a different board at the time.

Saw him play Texas in the bowl game and thought "The Steelers are going to draft this guy".

But I didn't want him. I wanted us to break out of the strong plodding back mode. Was hoping to get someone more like FWP than Najee.

 

I liked Skattebo but also liked Johnson and was happy with the pick. As for Dart, first time watching him last night and liked what I saw from him. For the most part I kept seeing him hit his receivers in stride, and on different types of routes.

 

All his throws last night were pretty accurate

 

IMHO, I don’t think Skattebo was worth a mid-third, which was where we picked Johnson. By the time it was our turn in the fourth, he was gone. There’s also no guarantee that he would perform as well behind our OL. But all that are conjectures and we roll with what we have

 

How was johnson worth a mid third?

Anyways, I bet steelers didn't think Scoobedo can return kick offs so they went for "versatility"... oh wait.

I don't have any idea what Johnson is missing in practice, but obviously they have no confidence in him. But, I don't see how bringing him in for one carry, then taking him out immediately, makes any sense. I say give him a series or two and see what happens.

 

They gave him six carries today. The odd part was going to him on the final two drives of the game.

 

They had the game in hand that's the perfect time to get Kaleb some carries, Warren coming back from an injury and them having a game on Thursday maybe he was on a snap count.

 

Why, Late in the game ahead by 2 scores, isn't this a good time to get Kaleb involved in the running game? Hell, even Roman Wilson caught a pass in the 4th QTR.

I liked how the Steelers seemed to bench some of their starters in the 4th QTR, knowing that they have a game on Thursday this week.

 

Which pretty much guaranteed that he'd be swallowed up as soon as he touched the ball. Everybody in the stadium knew he was getting it and the Browns shut it down. Likely in there at that time because his strength is ball security.

 

I didn't think that Skattebo had the ceiling in the NFL to make it worth the pick, but early returns are showing that I was wrong to believe that. I still am not sure that Skattebo can be a true #1 back, but his ability in space and 3 down capabilities mean that he can be super effective in a tandem (and likely would have been an excellent complement to Warren). There's still time for Johnson to develop and change that narrative, but Skattebo looks like a real player (and great locker room personality to boot).

 

To me Johnson plays/ runs soft. I think Tomlin even mentioned that in camp.. Im not gonna get excited over a 9 yard run or two he has had

Johnson looks like a good college RB that did not transition well to NFL standards. He plays like he is lazy and lacks effort. He obviously does not think ahead or pay attention in games enough to know the schemes. There have been no early flashes like FWP or Bell. Mewelde Moore had better stats. Unfortunately Johnson will be a waste of a 3rd round pick. I would take the best RB in the draft next year.
