So? We previously hired an QB coach/OC with no nfl experience and a spotty college career, we also hired our HC coach with only one year experience as a DC.

I like Haleys philosophy over this guys. Stretch the field then establish the run. Instead of pound the rock, and then some play action. Is that really going to be effective?

At least he was winning playoff games to get to the championship game. I would rather have that then this one and done bull**** that is going on now.

Rooney claims he is on board with us about the lack of playoff success. Let’s see if his words are as hollow as they normally are.

If this new extension and new regime with Smith doesn't bring any real success and then MT gets extended again, then we know for sure AR isn't serious about winning and definitely won't prioritise that that over just having people around he likes. Ryan Clark said there's too much sentiment in the building at times.

Jeff Saturday was saying with Arthur Smith now in Pittsburgh that the Steelers should go get Russell Wilson who would be a perfect fit for Smith's offense. Saturday said the Steelers would win 13 games and at least one playoff game with the Smith, Wilson addition to the team. OK now let the very optimistic ratings start flying, lol.

Rooney should have signed NOD to another contract and told Cowher and Kordell that they were going to keep his slash role. End of discussion. Kordell and Cowher were so adamant about him being a QB that they forced ownership to accept that role instead of what was actually best for the team. Stewart was an elite talent but a very average NFL QB.

Even if O'Donnell would have been one of the highest paid QBs in the NFL at this time?

He was far from Elway, Favre, Young, etc at this time, but for the salary he was on that caliber

They weren't going to overspend for O'Donnell. That contract did not work out well for the Jets. Stewart was always going to get his shot at quarterback.

no one has to hire him, if they use his philosophy that’s enough.

He’s in such demand that he couldn’t handle all of the interview requests and went coaching hs and now a semi-pro team

Brock and Mahomes are in the SB because of their ability to win games with their arms. Their rushing rankings were partly due to playing with leads in the 2nd half and mostly due to the fact that defenses had to respect the pass on every play. Their passing abilities opened up the run game. Those rushing attacks you mentioned just happened to put up passing stats during the playoffs that would have been career beats from our Qb’s .

9 of the last 10 superbowls were won by teams with great QBs. Something like 17 of the last 20 superbowls were won by probowl/HOF Qb’s. Many of those teams may have had good running games but they also had passing stats that we can only dream of. In today’s NFL the teams with run focused offenses may make the playoffs but they always get knocked out by superiors passing attacks .

The contract was never going to work out for the Jets. The Steelers should have made a better offer to try and keep Neil and then restructured later. Letting him walk and thinking Korkie was a NFL ready QB was a mistake.

O’Donnell had the second highest passer rating in NFL history the year he was leading them to the SB. That’s why the Jets overspent for him but he was always going to be a lousy fit there.

I agree that Kordell should have remained Slash. He was athletically gifted and could have been a multi-dimensional player for years. When the Steelers tried to put him in the QB1 box, it was ultimately a major failure.

As for NOD, he should have stayed with the Steelers but the fact is he spent much of his career trying to get out of Pittsburgh. He signed an offer sheet with Tampa Bay as a RFA a couple of years before he ultimately left to sign a huge deal at the time with the Jets. Had he stayed, I believe the Steelers would have gone to another Super Bowl with him as QB1 and Kordell in his Slash role.

O'Donnell was a decent quarterback. No more. He wasn't ever going to be worth the money it was going to take to sign him that offseason. The Steelers knew that better than anybody.

Maybe it was too soon to give Stewart an opportunity, but there is some serious hindsight at play here.
