We Need a Real Force at Nose

We were way too soft in the middle tonight. Jackson and Henry were getting whatever they wanted up the middle on runs, and our pass rush on the edges couldn't get home because there was always room for Jackson to step up when pressure came off the edge. I don't think this defense can be successful without a real difference maker in the middle of the interior line. Those players are hard to find in this day and age, but if we continue to use this defensive scheme, I think it is essential to find someone who can consistently hold the point of attack.

 

Tonight? Years n years.

 

I'd argue the most important player in a 3-4 defense is the nose because you need a special player in the middle to unleash the other players. I know we run a lot more hybrid and nickel now, but our defense is clearly soft in the middle. Nothing will change until that (and the coaching problems) are addressed.

 

I keep saying we haven't been the same against the run since Casey Hampton left. We never replaced him!!

 

Well, they tried to replace him but here’s Tomlin’s hand again. He keeps adding that X Factor that can play both Nose n End that’ he states is required in today’s game. I get what he’s sayin but enough is enough.

We need a traditional bull dozer NT. Enough with that experiment.

 

I still like Benton…he looks slimmer this year though?
