We are the biggest franchise in NFL history with the most fans the most Super Bowl's people travel all over to come see the Steelers play but Heinz Field
Is nothing more than a college football stadium it's time for the rooneys to suck it up and get us a high-end stadium like the Vikings and cowboys our fans deserve it

Don't get me started on the poor field conditions

IDK, I have no problem with either the stadium or the field. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. There is not a bad seat in the stadium. Tax payers put up a big chunk of the cost and I give tremendous credit to the Roonies for not milking that.

By the way, for a football game, the field was just fine.

Heinz Field is adequate. I know people will disagree.... but artificial turf needs to be installed and get rid of the grass. Steelers, Panthers and local high school teams play at Heinz. Makes sense to use turf instead of grass.

I would love a huge stadium that holds 90k like big time college stadiums, but the reality is they wouldn't be able to fill it, not because they don't have enough fans, but they need to rely on people forking out how much money it costs to go to a game (transportation, hotel, tickets).

Ive been going to games for years, and it hardly is ever at full capacity.

Most players prefer grass. If you are worried about field condition, I would first kick out the Panthers and High School teams. The Rooney family would never do that though.

Watch the Steelers go 6-10 and see how hard it is to sell out a 66,000 seat stadium. When Ralph Wilson built his new stadium to Orchard Park, NY for the Bills, he was showing it to Art Sr. Told him, isn't it nice Art, it will even seat 80,000. Art told him that's great but how are you going to sell it out if you stink?

Makes for a good point. Heinz field is only 15 years old. Your not going to see another new joint for at least, 20 more years.

Quit blaming the field, it's held up great the last few years. Especially with Pitt playing on it, and the WPIAL games, usually gets re-sodded after Thanksgiving. For goodness shake some of the region got multiple inches of rain yesterday. It happens not much you can do about it.

It's only 15 years old, they can renovate and add thousands of seats and a new field without tearing it down, jeez who builds a new stadium every 15 years, the tax payers cant afford that, do you buy a new house every 15 years??? A renovation is just a fraction of the cost compared to building a new one.......

I rather doubt that is going to happen considering they spent millions on the recent seating expansion. Personally I would like to have Three Rivers back :)

I think it's crazy what the NFL is doing 975 million for the vikings stadium. Just nuts. Heinz field was done for 281 million in 2001.

First off, where are you putting it? Secondly, playing in a dome isn't Pittsburgh football. Third, who's paying for it? Pittsburgh is small compared to all these other cities. That's why when you look at these stupid list of "most valuable franchises" You got teams like the Skins, 49ers, and Jets ahead of the team with the most Super Bowls. They base it off stupid crap like median income, population, etc.

I hate dome stadiums no matter how cool they look.

    Heinz Field is great.

They have done a good job of scheduling so we no longer have Pitt and the steelers or the high schools playing on the same weekends. Plus as stated above, they redo the field after high school.

If I remember correctly, I read multiple times that the Steeler players wanted the grass, and that is why it is there.

I'm old school, you play football on grass, mud and snow. Not on a living room carpet. At least not after you move out of mom and dad's house.

Ok, I'm not totally trying to be a jerk here, but I'm getting a strong feeling you just post stuff to get attention.

I don't think even you agree with yourself.

Other than that, good hearing from you. :smiley1:

As already mentioned, it was a pretty darn rainy day yesterday. You play any sport on a field that wet for 3 hours and it's bound to be a mess.
Now, that being said, I think they would need to expand the stadium more if they ever hoped of hosting a Super Bowl. Pittsburgh probably has the hospitality in place, but I'm sure the NFL wants more seats than they have to offer.
I'm not saying I want them to expand or build a new one, simply saying that is probably what the NFL will want.
And, compared to some of the other stadiums I've been to, the ticket prices at Heinz are relatively cheap. I'm sure if you went to a new stadium they would only go up.

I've never understood the argument for hosting a Super Bowl. Who gives a ****? I thought we were about winning Super Bowls not hosting them.

Agreed. Besides even if we did host one, that would be it, "one". Then you are stuck with the added expense for 30 years.

This. And I don't have statistics but isn't it safer to play on grass then turf?

I did some research on this before replacing a turf field at a school. The data was mixed. What I did find was players said it took their legs longer to recover after playing on a turf field. Now, that was from soccer players.

What I did find was the following from a University of Arkansas research article:

A recent survey of 1,511 active NFL players by the NFL players association found that 73% of the players preferred playing on a natural grass system, while only 18% preferred artificial turf (4). Nine-percent of the players had no preference.

I will take their word for it.

I guess for the 18%, they feel it helps them cut better, can't imagine any other reason for wanting to play on it.

LOL, this is true, "shoot, we're winning, what the heck can I moan about now" :lolol:

Probably the most depressed Steelers fan when they win. :notworthy:
