So instead of trading a single mid round pick for McCluster, we've now spent a 3rd and 5th trying to replicate his less than stellar production?

Isn't there a grownup in the draft room to tell Todd Haley "NO!"???

Where was the grown up on the sideline as he was play calling 30 bubble screens a game?

Gee whiz...we're going to start the Haley bashing again? The team finished 7th in points, almost all of which were earned on offense. Neither the D nor the Special Teams helped that O at all.

    1. Haley probably has little say on the matter.
    2. If Haley was so enamored with Archer, why didn't he see more PT?

I've got a neighbor who bought a really expensive motorcycle. I don't think he ever rides it. I don't know if he even knows how, but it's always on display when it's nice out. Maybe it needs work...I don't know.

The O we ended up with was fine. (Although being the top passing team but only 7th in scoring is a little bit of a concern; they move the ball but they aren't all that great in the red zone.) But the O we ended up with wasn't the O Todd ran in the beginning of the season. They stopped calling a maddening level of bubble screens, which was of Haley's doing in the first place. His obsession with bubble screens needs to continue to be less than what he was calling in the first half of the season. I believe it was Ben's influence that made the O start clicking.

The OC has little to say with O personnel? Wow. As far as playing time, when the touches one has result in no production, you can expect them to receive less touches. It's just common sense.

Colbert loves FA who are undervalued to come in and be role players... that might be Williams if people think he has too much tread on the tires and is no longer a starter.

In terms of the draft? No, he really doesn't. Neither has any Steelers OC that I remember, for that matter. They have some input, but not much beyond that.

This from the Steelers site, back when BA was the OC. There were several images like this one...no BA in sight.

I have never seen TH in the draft room to begin with. I mean, I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but have you seen TH in the draft room?

They call the bubble screens to draw the CBs in. It's strategy. The Patriots run it a lot, though to much better effect. Early in the season, the Steelers had three issues: no deep threat, protection problems, and (I'm speculating) an injured Ben. By mid-season, Bryant emerged, Ben got healthy, the o-line jelled.

I agree that red zone offense was a problem, but that has been an issue on and off for 25 years.

You don't need to be in the draft room to influence the draft. TH probably made it apparent that he really was craving a super fast RB so they got him one. It's not that hard to believe.

TH is involved, 12to88, there are 4 videos posted last week on the draft process, worth watching, TH is in the room.

I've read several times that the Archer pick was influenced by TH but of course, KC still needs to give it the green light.

Then I stand corrected. Thanks. I'd like to think that TH's influence is minimal, because you end up with an issue of "Too many cooks in the kitchen." If TH is more involved, then that could definitely be a problem.

All the guys are involved. Scouts, position coaches ,OC, DC, Head Coach KC. Exactly to many cooks in the kitchen and even when you draft BPA if you don't have targeted positions then you run the risk of getting out voted , because not all in the room would have the same knowledge or even similar knowledge on certain players .

This is why I suspect we miss a lot of talent , because our safe draft strategy is really not as safe as they think it . I still stand by the fact if we target a certain position it will do the opposite of cause you to reach , as each guy in the room will add more value than normal because the fact they targeted said position, which should lead to getting a better player at that position. The old 2 heads are better than 1 theory . But BPA seems you try convince the group your player is better than the other 1 even though they have limited knowledge of the other player .

This thread needs it's own theme song.

I can't be the only one who's humming this every time they see the thread title.

    Or maybe I can be.

Their approach is probably no different than any other team with maybe the exception of Rooneys taking the final list and scratching off any players with character concerns that they feel wont be overcome. Then the list goes back to KC.

KC states that he won't target a position , that is different than a lot of Teams .Keeps you from reaching he says and I say it also causes you to miss talent. Again I don't think the Team as a whole value DB'S as much as they should and I think this will be KC'S last draft to get it right .Maybe 1 more the Owners may want to give this draft at least 2 seasons.

I am sure KC knows his job is on the line , after that it's MT . I like MT so KC needs to get this draft right . We need post season wins and we will not get them until we get better DB'S .

Maybe Landry Jones can catch the ball out of the backfield and the team can bulk him up and teach him some spin moves then we have not wasted that draft pick?

I was referring to your comment about too many cooks in the room.

As for not targeting a position, don't take what these guys say so literally, there are other teams in the draft, a little misdirection never hurts.

KC's seat isn't even remotely warm, don't know where you got that notion from.
