I know our D has looked poor this year but we had the ball in both losses with enough time to win and didn't execute! We win and lose as a team. I guess my point is that we have been a winning team over the years mostly because of a dominant D, now we have a high power offense (maybe time for the offense to win some games until the D gets healthy and on track) and we laid a turd in both games with a chance to win at the end. Just sayin!! Like I said we win and lose as a team, and if we have the ball with 2 mins to go you would think our 110 million dollar QB would step up and get the win, kind of like Palmer did to us (and he sucks). This isn't a bash Ben thread but we should have won both games! IMHO..Ben did hold a couple of records for comeback and 4th qtr wins his first 4-5 years if I'm not mistaken, not sure what happend but it seems like everytime the last couple of years we have the ball with a chance to close the door and win we poop in our pants. Is it just me, or has Ben lost his competetive edge in the 4th. Playcalling? Am I just spoiled? Not sure but it really bothers me to lose at the end like that! I would honestly rather take a beating the whole game then ride the emotional rollercoaster and lose in the end! Thoughts?

The Denver game he made a bad decision throwing right to Porter but he can't control his WR's fumbling the ball in the 4th quarter.

Ben is fine. He's actually playing at the highest level of his career when you consider his completion %: 70%.

We have a high-powered offense... almost. The O-Line is killing the run game. Even still... the defense doesn't have to be perfect. They just have to hold teams to 14-17 points/game. The offense should be able to score 20-24 points/game. That's how the Steelers can win.

since our offense is very good and our defense can't stop anybody , i would go for every 4th down rather than punt the ball :hmmm:

While yes the O could have put up 31 more points or something...still it is up to the D to stop the other team from doing the same...the O can only do so much. Just like all the years where it was the other way around...the D could only do so much if the O would put up points/etc. While yeah you can say "win/lose" as a team...these losses are heavily on the D...no matter what way people try and spin it.

We sure could be, but we could also be 0-3.

Yes, they could be 3-0, but the Seattle Seahawks could have won SB XL too.

What happended did happen, and it's hard for me to argue that the Steelers 1-2 record isn't well earned.

You are correct. The offense had a chance to possibly win the Denver and Oakland games. The offense failed in both instances. The defense had a chance to stop Oakland and failed. People will fault who ever they want. Considering the defense didn't have it's two best players, it's understandable that the level of play of the entire unit wouldn't be the same.

I say we should be 2-1.....No way we win in Denver....Peyton could have tossed the ball around all night long with out the Steelers stopping him again.

We should be 2 and 1, You can't lose to the Raiders, quite
possibly the worst franchise in the NFL. Come playoff time remember this game,
it may have cost us a playoff appearence.

The Raiders loss was horrid but it happens. The 1977 Steelers team that made the playoffs lost to the Broncos twice and also to the Bengals who did not make the playoffs.

Win or lose. I just want to see them play with some damn intesity. It is sorely lacking so far this season.

I can handle a loss when they leave it all out on the field and come up short. What I can't handle is spending my afternoons watching half the players just go through the motions.

Tomlin preaches the Standard is the Standard but really it's not. There is such a drop off in talent when 2 key players are out and suddenly we lost our identity. Farrior and Hines apparently are bigger losses than I thought they would be. I don't mean to sound like the sky is falling but there are not any leaders on this team and if somebody doesn't step up right now then the division goes to either the Rats or the Bungles. It's that simple.

I see your point, but I don't agree.

"Leadership" is not what is killing our run game, for example. Our absent offensive line is killing our run game. They don't need to play more intensely - that would probably just result in more penalties - they just need to play better.

I see a lack of form on the D - as FreakFontana has said a few times, they look in preseason shape (which does raise the question - what was the point of preseason?). But I think it's a mistake to pin this on something as ambiguous as 'leadership' or 'intensity'. I could be wrong (and I have a feeling I might get corrected on this) but I haven't seen anyone giving up on a play. I've seen players take wrong angles, be a step behind where they should be, and provide weak coverage. But I wouldnt' comment on the intensity. There are times where you can see through body language players have given up the fight; but it's easy for us to see player X drop a ball on a clutch play and claim he's not trying, where if he'd caught it, it probably wouldn't have occurred to us to say.

Maybe its just a knee jerk reaction on my part but I see about 4 total playmakers on this team who are giving everything they got and one of them is the punter. I really wish the Oline can get it together to run block. Last year it was pass blocking and now it's run blocking. Just like the defense. Last year they stuffed the run and now they're getting run over. The pass rush is a non factor and they're getting torched on the scoreboard. To be fair, our two best playmakers (who make everybody better apparently) are out but the next player cannot step up. To this I say where is the leadership? Hines Ward would be ripping into everyone. Potsie would be screaming we're better than this. Instead we have Timmons, Worilds, Hampton and Woodley for the most part just shaking their heads and lining up for the next play.
It's not just the Steelers though. I see so many teams out there playing with a ton of intensity and others just going through the motions. I don't want them to just go through the motions. The results don't work very well.
