Pittsburgh’s reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt no longer is recovering from just a torn pectoral muscle; he now is also trying to make it back from arthroscopic knee surgery. Watt recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to clean up an injury he suffered during the preseason that lingered into the regular season and that now is likely to delay his return by another week or two, sources told ESPN’s Brooke Pryor and me. Watt now might not return until afte…

Probably took advantage of him already being off to fix something that would linger

    Good opportunity

When was this surgery? If it just happened this week, why the hell did they wait so long?

And you got your MD where

If needed it then snd doing the drills was a problem he wouldn’t have been doing them
Possibly he had the surgery immediately

Possibly the drills were rehab for the surgery

I just spent a week in Ruidoso

Not that you care but I doubt anyone else on this board knows where it is or ever heard of it

well, my guess is that if he had surgery 2-3 weeks ago, we’d have known about it at the time. I doubt this would stay under wraps for even a week.

    Last week was SEASON DEFINING

He watched his coach trip and fall on his face on a wide open layup decision.

Basically he was going to play thru this if we had a chance. But seasons already over in Week 5 due to Tomlins incompetence. So he’s not rushing back thru injury to go 3-14.

I wouldn’t mind if he shut it down for the year but probably not the best big picture. When he finally comes back he’s playing for all time stats and add to his legacy because we will already be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Says it happened in preseason. Remember when he shouldn't have still been in the game and took the cheap shot from the receiver on a block. 10 days to two weeks for the scope. I'm not a Dr. But stayed at a holiday inn express a few weeks ago.

I am still expecting him back after the Bye week.

The defense looked great against the Bengals because they played that half in the last preseason game. The Bengals basically took of the preseason with no contact in practice and it showed. You can't fault Tomlin in his preparation for the 1st game of the season this year or last year. Whatever he is doing the Steelers are beating far superior teams in week 1. Buffalo and then Cincinatti.

Clearly, he was able to play at a high level even with the knee injury. We saw that against the Bengals. If it was a damaged meniscus, the pain probably wasn't consistent because the damaged tissue moves within the knee. Sometimes it is in a worse position than others. I've had the injury. It can be painful and it can make the knee feel unstable when it is at its worst.

mac daddyo's guess is a good one. That isn't a sure thing, but it is a decent bet that this was an injury suffered on the play in preseason.

There is still a lot we don't know, primarily when he had the surgery. It seems as if he tried to avoid the surgery, which is ultimately going to end up costing him even more time out of the lineup. I doubt we are going to get an explanation of why he waited, but it is fair to question that decision.

This most likely. Hurt it while rehabbing. He certainly didn’t look like he was playing with a knee injury before hurting his pec.

    Fittipaldo:
Early last week, I want to say last Wednesday, TJ [Watt] was out there working, he was visible at practice. Since then, has hasn’t been at practice. I didn’t put eyes on him at the [New York] Jet game. A lot of people are putting two and two together and I’m in that camp. I think some sort of setback occurred with his rehab.”

“I don’t think he’s going to be a candidate to come off IR next week even though he’s eligible. We haven’t gotten any answers from [Mike] Tomlin so we might be in the dark for a little while here, but TJ hasn’t been in the locker room, hasn’t been on the practice field and I didn’t see him at Acrisure during that Jets game.”

A knee scope could be getting rid of some arthritis from any of the previous injuries. It could be a meniscus tear as scribe said. Maybe a little of both. It may have happened in preseason, it may have resurfaced during this rehab and since he had a tit set back they just decided to do it. He may have been going to play through the knee thing but since setback by the boob tear, just figured we will fix both.

Hmm, those blocks that are "legal"...taking playmakers off the field for an NFL that just had a spate of garbage played games...
