I’d like anyone to please help explain to me how an individual performance award like DPOY is not having Watt as the leader right now considering his stats are leading by a little or a lot in all 6 of what seem to be the most important measurables.

    Sacks
    QB hits
    Pressures
    Forced fumbles
    Fumble recoveries
    Interceptions

This is an honest question and even though I’m biased, I am open to hearing other reasonings, especially if the stats were close like when they robbed TJ of the title to give to A. Donald.

MVP I understand where the award is geared partly by the overall teams record. Like who cares if a guy rushes for 3000 yards in a season but the team ends up at .500 - there is not much “value” in having the performer on your team.

But DPOY is just the guy who is balling out the most right!

So why the hell is that creep in Cleveland and the jerk in Dallas ahead of TJ???

Browns as an overall need a face to apply to their general success, even though they are more successful by a collection of role players playing their roles well. As they are now a playoff team without their franchise QB and RB, the NFL needs a face to match to the brand to condition new fans into imprinting on that team in the same way Franco Harris or Mean Joe did to Steelers fans in the 70s.

As for Micah Parsons. Mann idk. Hes flashy but as someone who owns him in an IDP league hes not as productive as youd think. Very hit and miss.

I agree with you - I can’t see how either of the other two should get it above Watt (Garett or Parsons), both of whom play the same position.

The Donald situation was tough. I was disappointed Watt didn’t get it that year, but could also see that Donald had a great year as an interior lineman.

I appreciate the response, but honestly, none of that sold me why he is leading Watt.

Unless we are just now just openly accepting a bunch of hog wash is part of the evaluation of the award. Then the award means nothing.

it doesn’t seem like Watt is going to get a ring in Pittsburgh as long as Tomlin keeps wasting his years with crap schemes and game plans.

I guess 30 minute football is “The Standard”.

Watts sack dance bothers me ! He was dancing before the play ended last week. I cant stand it.
I`m trading him in the off season. He is me first. He is Mike Trout !!!!

As a homer I think most of us would be biased, and actually be less impressed by the Browns guy...just because, lol. Unfortunately it usually comes down to 'politics', and whoever votes on these things is swayed by the popularity and story of the team at the moment, as mush as the value of play that has been performed. One player on D can rarely win games, let alone be the reason a team wins games, but overall (especially with this team) you can see what happens when TJ is out, that said the recent 3 game embarrassing losses we had did not help, not saying it was TJ's fault...it was a lousy team effort on all fronts, but I think that may play into the minds of those that vote.

If the team would have won 2 of those, and either make the play offs walking in, or do it convincingly with the O still struggling, then TJ's exploits might get more recognition, as it is we are where we are, and the Browns are winning with an aged 4th QB that they just signed, and that guy on D is going to get more recognition as the team moves forward.

All 3 are very good players

But TJ had to dang near break (TIE) the NFL sack record to just win one is pretty crazy.

Oh I'm not trying to convince you that the standards are legitimate because theyre not.

It is hogwash. It is politics, sales, and branding.
Watt got his DPOY. They want Garrett to win it, badly.

Congratulations on your entry to the dumbest post of the year award. You have a very good chance of winning. 1st place will be a back cage pass to the monkey exhibit in the zoo where you can shovel more of that :poopy:.

Garrett hasn't done **** in a month and a half now. the media just keeps making the excuse that he's a force and is deserving of the praise. i don't get it. he may be playing hurt, but part of earning an accolade such as DPOY means you need to stay healthy and productive for your team. he hasn't done that. Watt was more dominant than Garrett earlier in the season anyhow. so yeah, it's dumbfounding.

After Watt I'd go with Maxx Crosby - that guy is a beast and nasty.

Garrett has less tackles, less assists, less sacks, less forced fumbles, less fumble recoveries, less interceptions, less touchdowns. So, yes, I can see why he’s favored. Makes sense.

If they based it purely on stats there would be no drama , and the NFL likes to create drama. It might even be decided before the last game was played. They could come up with a weighted scale and have to figure out is a sack worth more than a forced fumble . I think a pick six has got to be worth the most, then whatever causes a change in possession a forced fumble with recovery would outweigh a forced fumble if the offensive team recovers the ball. Sacks rev up the team and the fans but a 6 yd sack on 2nd down and then the team converts on third is almost meaningless. Some sacks are game changers and directly effect the result of the game.
A formula could be used but where is the drama.

I think Donald gets bonus points because he is considered a defensive tackle and in theory it is harder to get sacks . So even if Watt gets more sacks they use that excuse to give the award to Donald.

I have seen a few Rams games and there are long periods of the game where I don t even notice Donald is playing.

Maybe the NFL is getting tired of giving the DPOY to a Steeler.

You do realize that most (all?) of the people who vote for this award do not work for the NFL?

Well yes and that is a fair point to make. But News Anchors don't work for Pharmaceutical companies, but if one has an interest I imagine its in the best interest of the second party to take interest too.

I'm a conspiracy minded loon though. I could be way off base here.

I just feel as if Garrett has been preordained. Its where I would put my money.

I think you are way off base, although I'm referring only to your reasoning.
Garrett may very well end up winning, even if there is a better option. That seems to happen a lot in sports.

I admit bias is a thing. Even if it's subconsciously, people go into a season with beliefs that certain players are the best and that can sway their opinion about how well a player has played. Garrett is one of those players, although so is TJ Watt.

There's no conspiracy to make a Browns player win an individual award. It just doesn't make sense and provides no value to the NFL.

Media has been talking up Garrett since he came in to the league and even before that tbh, he was touted as a generational player by the talking heads and they need to be proven right.

Team achievements also play in to it. The steelers are not relevant right now unfortunately and nobody outside of Steelers fans are interested in the team. It’s more fun to talk about the playoff teams and the players on those teams. If Watt was on the Ravens or the 49ers he would probably be leading the betting.

Much like MVP has pretty much become only a QB award, DPOY has become only a pash-rusher award

I'm for a shakeup. Give Tyreek Hill MVP and Deron Bland DPOY.

Suffice it to say I'll be disappointed when Lamar and Micah Parsons actually win

Same reason Lamar Jackson is leading in MVP. They seem to change what it is that makes these awards by who they want to win.
