I lept to the conclusion that Caldwell was interviewed here for the OC position but what if he was interviewed for the QB coach position? In light of him being named Ravens QB coach I think that's a distinct possibility. That tells me that Fichtner is going to be the next OC here, leaving a vacancy at QB coach. Yes? No?

I've read that Tomlin and Caldwell are pretty close and talk regularly. I wonder if their whole publicized meeting was just more friendly. Perhaps Tomlin gave him a courtesy interview so to speak, even if he had no real plans to hire him on his staff, or maybe even to just help keep his name out there. You would have to think that if Tomlin really wanted him (for OC or QB coach), he would be, at least it would have seemed more logical to me then him joining the Ravens over the Steelers.

Exactly. We don't even know if he was interviewed for anything.

All we know is that they met. Maybe Caldwell set it up to say, hey, you gonna be okay with my if I go to your rival? We really don't know what happened at that meeting.

I still am on the Hue Jackson bandwagon, but I think we will hear soon that it is Fichtner.

Interviewed for OC. Somethings off here, why did Caldwell take such a demotion to QB coach with the Ravens.

Looks like the article may answer your question.

"A source told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Caldwell was not offered the position as offensive coordinator."

Sounds like he didn't have to decide between the Steelers OC and the Ravens QB coach.

Oh no, I caught that, I just meant I'm surprised he would accept any QB coach position, big drop off from HC. Guess like Peyton says, "hey, a mans gotta work".

You raise a good question. Thats quite a fall from grace to go from HC of team not too far removed from a SB title to being the QB coach of the QB hotbed and offensive Juggernaut that is the Baltimore rats... i guess if a position coach is really all Caldwell is cut out to be, then I'm darned glad that Tomlin and Co. Didn't reach on him as the OC here or for that matter, any coaching position here.

There is also an upside to having Manning if he stays with the team and an upside to having (assuming it happens) a rookie like Luck to work with.

Agreed, I didn't want to see Caldwell end up here either.
