Bell also averaged 3.5 ypc his rookie year and got nearly 19 carries a game. Johnson is stuck behind backs that are just better than him at the moment. He isn't good enough at blocking/receiving to take snaps away from those guys. Warren is a high quality all around back and Gainwell is an exceptionally competent RB2. He's more stuck behind good backs than he is a bad back. They're trying to get him involved where they can, but we just have a strong RB room.

It doesn't mean he is guaranteed to develop into a good back, but it doesn't mean he won't either. Yes, guys like Skattebo and JCM are contributing right away, but that doesn't mean that Johnson won't be as good or better. People seem to forget that many thought we missed on Lacy because he contributed more than Bell did his rookie year, only for Bell to far surpass Lacy as a player.

If Johnson can't find his way onto the field in year 2, then maybe I will get a bit worried... but I can't blame him for being the RB3 on this team when the RB1 and RB2 are as good as they are.

Johnson looks like a wasted pick.

Just because a third round pick is stuck behind two veteran RBs doesn't mean he's a wasted pick.

Warren and Gainwell are both young and producing. I can understand a 3rd rounder being behind one starter, but two?

just seems like the pick couldve been used elsewhere. Our D for example.

With the way the D was exposed we may have to go back to the well to draft for defense again. Not to mention replacing the D Coordinator.

Hopefully Johnson is good (but if he was wouldnt he get more carries?) if he is maybe they trade Warren or Gainwell for draft position.

Don’t think Warren has the horsepower to carry the ball like a workhorse.
Like the guy, but he is what you call a rb that is good in a 2 rb system
    That didn’t make sense

    Johnson is a rookie
Maybe just maybe the Steelers are trying to develop him without overwhelming him
Understand it is the rb position not a qb position, but some are slow to develop anywhere.

And Johnson isn't that good at pass protection or catching the ball yet.

It might've been hedging their bet against Gainwell. If Gainwell wasn't that good, they would need another RB2 and they thought Johnson could step in as RB2 and then hopefully take the RB1 role eventually. He hasn't looked like an NFL caliber back yet, but that doesn't mean he wont be. I thought he'd be more ready than he was (and had pretty high hopes for him in tandem with Warren). However, he will need to work on his game and figure it out by next season. He seems to have decent vision and cut ability, as well as good enough power.... but he looks to lack that elite "start/stop" that Warren has. He doesn't look as slow as Najee, but he doesn't really look that fast to me. There's still plenty of time for him.
