As I have said the whole time Wallace is a money man.....I hope we get an offer,,he will cost the Team to much if he stays or we will get nothing for him next year....As I have stated for months lets get a pick and trade back and draft 2 OL and Brian Quick in the 1st. 2 rounds...

We need a Big Target and we need a guy who will play hard for years for a fair price....A lot of WR'S are just me guys,,,,and Quick is a Team player.....

Here's the thing that really fires me up about this. Yes I understand that it's a "business" and you have to try and get what you can. However, we have a new OC coming in and a new system and this new system might not be like the former system that wallace was used to which was basically "GO DEEP MIKE!" Maybe Haley sees more potential in wallace and has some good ideas for him. But if he's sitting on the sidelines saying "pay me" while Haley is trying to help the team then it just seems to me that he needs to move on. Ben was just saying when he was crying about BA's firing that we have these "young guys" that will need a lot of time to get used to a new system. Well wouldn't that same thing go for wallace? Why doesn't Ben step up and say "hey I took a pay cut and I've done WAY more for this team than you! Now shut up and get in line or else go play for pay and we'll go get some more rings without you" Don't get me wrong I like wallace but man these guys kill me!

The problem is that the Steelers don't have the wiggle room to give him that fair deal in any real sense of his value to the team. It's not there. We've been screaming for the team to lock some of these "prized" players up and put some real money out there instead of letting them walk. Now you see where having no room to work gets them.

You can say that now, what happens when Quick plays lights out for 3 years, becomes a RFA and demands the same thing Wallace is demanding?

In this era of free agency, the Steelers can't afford to sign everybody,
I think they have to decide who they are going to give the big money to
at this position. Will it be Wallace or Brown. Same way when Peezy and Aaron Smith
were free agents, the Steelers decided on Smith. You can only afford so much.
Lets see, big money ball players already on roster. Ben,Troy,Silverback,Woodley(mistake),Clark
Timmons,Hampton(big mistake) crummy OL exception Pouncey. So you see the Steelers have alot of money already on the books for a handful of players and I am almost positive that #7 will want 1 more big payday. With the new TV money coming into the picture shortly this will open up our cap room
some what but, we are always up against the cap anyway. I will go out on a limb and say the Steelers will keep Antonio Brown barring injury and that Mike Wallace will probably go to some team that can afford his services.

After what happened to Javon Walker's career, I can't really blame players with trying to get long term deals done. The Steelers and Wallace have to work harder on this to get it done. Get a long term deal that is light on the front end. However, if it is true that Wallace is looking for Larry Fitz type money, then I don't think we will see a deal get done.

Hopefully AB is more of a realist this time next year.

Receivers like Wallace are a dime a dozen. Trade him for a high draft pick.

Good post, steelfan. This whole "he's not a true Steeler" talk is kind of idealistic. Numerous players we would think of as 'true steelers' have held out from camp. The fact that he (or more likely his agent) is holding out for more money just tells us that he (or his agent) want more money. Nothing more, nothing less.

Except, teams have had the chance to offer him a contract for a high draft pick. And nobody has. If Wallace isn't fooling the Steelers FO about his worth, then is he going to fool anyone else?

Does anyone know what he is asking for?We need to take care of this situation before things get out of hand and feelings and emotions start to get out of control.

How can you guys say Mike is making the right decision, or "doing what he should." I've defended him quite a bit about deserving a new contract, but not anymore.

Mike can play all the games he wants, in the end there's a reason you NEVER see a guy hold out into the season. If he does then he loses a year of eligibility, which he needs to become a free agent after this season. Which means he and the team will go through this dog and pony show all season, for him to be back in the same position next off-season. He's going to play out the year at the 1 year tender whether he likes it or not... Assuming he's going to be a dumbass about it.

Now, if he wants to do things like an adult... Here are his options...

    A. He plays out the season for 2.7 million and become a free agent, and we part ways and make Antonio Brown our big money guy at WR.

    B. He gets into camp, and he and his agent work with the Steelers on a fair deal that I believe would be in the ball park of 6 years, 55 million. That's what the market is at right now for a WR like Wallace.

    C. (my favorite option) Wallace shows to camp and has his agent tell the Steelers he wants out of town, but it's a business decision, and in the end it could work out for both sides. Wallace's agent then contacts the Broncos and the Bengals and tells them that he's not looking for 'Larry Fitzgerald' money, but he wants a fair deal (something like the one above). Then he signs his tender, the Bengals or Broncos offer him a deal and the Steelers get a first round pick. Wallace gets his money in a new city, the Steelers get something in return and don't have to worry about picking Wallace or Brown.

All 3 options involve him coming to camp.

    Whoa there, SBD.

He's talking about sitting out of the off-season workouts - not training camp, not the actual season.

What would be the point of just missing those workouts?

He can't be in camp or anything else unless he signs that tender and the words I'm reading are "no plan on signing anything but a long-term deal."

Exactly why I was hoping someone would sign him and we get another 1st rounder.

The point is that it's the next thing on the calender that he could make miss, thus showing that he's serious, thus hoping to get a better offer from the Steelers. If they don't, he'll likely holdout from camp as well. But on my reading, at the moment he's only saying that he'll miss off-season OTAs.

I see him saying he will sit out "until the sides reach a long-term contract agreement."

I can guarantee you they aren't going to if he's not attending mandatory workouts.

I agree with you on that. Wallace has certainly developed a bit of an ego.

Mike Wallace is just posturing for the April 20th deadline, he and his agent are getting nervous because that the NFL teams aren't lining up for him. I like the vikings getting him and giving us the 3rd pick but that is not going to happen. We will wake up and ol Adam Shefty will have breaking news that Wallace signed for 58 MIl over 6 years. Bank!

Pretty spot on IMO...this is what I believe is most likely the case as well. Has anyone heard or read any comments from Wallace or his agent recently?

Also if wallace doesnt sign the tender by june 15thand the steelers can reduce his tender to 575,000 dollars and if he doesnt sign by week ten i believe he doesnt get this year towards free agency. Hell i hope he waits so we can get one more year even cheaper

I wonder what is going through both the Steelers brass' minds and Wallace and his agent now that Cotchery has been given a contract. Cothchery, Sanders (if he stays healthy), and Brown are a pretty solid trio of receivers. No burners, but really the Steelers seemed to be able to move the ball multiple ways in the pass game whether deep outs or doing it in 10-15 yard chunks. So they should still be able to move the ball. If anything Cotchery and Sanders may both be better than Wallace inside the 20 where the Steelers have all there problems anyway.

I just think there is no way the Steelers are going to give Wallace a big contract because of cap reasons. Maybe it is possible they could come to some agreement for a smaller one year contract that doesn't dent the cap too much ($5M?) but shows good faith to build a bridge to a bigger contract if he is deserving next year as the Steelers likely get more cap room.

Does anybody really think that -- regardless of what team he plays for in 2012 -- that he'll actually sit out? Come on, either he'll sign a long term deal with someone and play, or he'll go unsigned and play for the contract of his life to be signed in 2013. Missing actual time will only drive his price down.

Sanders ran a 4.3 flat thats about a half step slower then wallace so we still have a guy that can blow the top iff coverage
