ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Live Wednesday that restricted free agent Mike Wallace has no plans to sign his one-year, $2.742 million tender.
If his tender isn't signed, Wallace can't participate in Organized Team Activities. According to Schefter, Wallace plans to sit out all offseason workouts until the sides reach a long-term contract agreement. Schefter reports that Wallace and the Steelers have "struggled" to find a common ground, which means the deep threat receiver could be headed for an extended spring absence. Apr 11 - 4:31 PM

I assumed his hard balling was all aimed at making him an unrestricted FA next year. Great.

I really wish someone would sign this guy away from us.

Apparently he didn't learn humility from Hines.

Or - maybe he's just not a real Steeler.

IMO - real Steelers are special players. They understand the organization and what it takes to remain with the best organization in the NFL. Those that do become our heroes. Those that don't wave buh-bye. I've been talking to my son over the past several months, saying that I still wasn't sure about Wallace. Maybe I'm getting my answer.

If he is waiting for Fitzgerald money he may be sitting out a very long time

I have been saying this was going to happen all along. There is no way he is going to play this year for the restricted tender, when he was expecting a big contract. I also think he has priced himself out of the steelers range, even if the rumor that he wanted Fitz type money wasn't true.

I like Mike, but its clear he is not a true Steeler. True Steelers can get much more money on the open market but they never let it get there because they take less to play in a great city and for a great organization and team.

I just hope we can part ways and get something for him before this becomes a distraction. Preferebly a LB or guard.

Or maybe he wants to lock in with the Steelers for a long time. I'm amazed at how many people say "he isn't a true Steelers" when a player won't sign an offer.

Well if he holds out to long this year was ont count and he will ztill be a restricted free agent next year. The chargers could have done it to jackson but chose not to. If wallace decides to mess with the steelers i doubt they just let him walk. He will be there when camp starts

he was expeting big contract but right i don't see any big offers to him , so if he wants to get paid he should start to ask the money is worth . i can be wrong but looking at his attitude he will be not a steelers for long

Historically, when players miss off season workouts, they have an off year. Just look at Chris Johnson last year. I hope the Steelers brass remember that. I hope they play hard ball right back. They have all the power. I hope they don't even talk to him until he comes to his senses and agrees to play for the tender. I hope they let him sit out the entire year if that's what he chooses, because he won't be a UFA next year if that's what happens, and even if he was, no team in their right mind would give him big money considering he missed an entire year and was useless in the 2nd half of last season.

I hope they sign and trade this clown. I've never liked him. I personally have no time for players that brag that they stayed out of trouble. IMO, staying out of trouble should be a given, it shouldn't be something that you need to try to do.

Next year, it won't cost you a 1st rounder to get him. With the Stevie Johnsons of the world getting $7-8 mill, I somehow think he will get paid what he's worth. And if you want to tell Mike Wallace that being a "Steeler guy" means getting low-balled, I offer Big Ben, Troy Pola, James Harrison and Lamar Woodley as Exhibits A, B, C, D. They got market. So should Mike. You don't want him? Fine. Let him go, but don't make it out like he's some ingrate.

Mark it down. Mike Wallace has already had the two best years of his career.

I'd do the same if I were Wallace. I wouldn't risk my earning potential. I don't think many others would do the same if they were in that position.

I say he gets traded to the Vikings for their no.3 overall and we draft Kalil. Bank it! ;-)

Not saying your wrong, I have no clue, my crystal-ball is cloudy. In fact, it is a bowling ball.

But I played on profootball-refernece.com player-season finder and did a search on all the 25yr olds that ever had an 1100 yd recieveing season , like Mike Wallace did last year. The list total 49 guys (including Mike).

Here are the names amoung the 49. They may not all be great players, but they are my choice of keep vs let walk:

Alworth, Boldin, Fitzgerald, Moulds, Ochocinco, Moss, Reed, Roy Williams, Duper, Lofton, Maynard, Gregg Jennings, Miles Austin, Lee Evans, Mark Duper, Lavernious Coles, Antonio Freeman, Steve Largent, Webster Slaughter , Lional Taylor,, Herman Moore, Amani Toomer, Mark Clayton, Terry Glenn, Andre Johnson, Terry Glenn, Wes Chandler, Darrell Jackson, Art Powell, Calvin Johnson, Charlie Taylor, Andre Rison, Sterling Sharpe.

That's 34 names out of 49 guys, and I didn't count Plex or Santonio Holmes who are also on this list and were let go. I would submit that if Mike Wallace's career falls in the middle of this pack, he will be a WR well worth resigning .

Of course he could stink for the rest of his life. Rolls the dice and takes your chances.

But I am bewildered by the cavalier way many in Steeler Nation seem to be about the potential loss of Wallace. Like he's a replaceable part, no big deal. I have to think having a deep threat WR in a pass-first league is a big DEAL , even if you dream of being a run first team.

I am more worried about how this will change our draft. do we now go after a wr earlier than we would have or I am not sure we draft a wr at all. I think they wanted this done before the draft. If he really wants 15 million a year trade him. Is that an option with him a restricted free agent? just wondering

Wallace does deserve market share he has the most receiving yards by a Steeler in their first 3 years of playing over 3200 yds receiving, that's 600 yds more than Plaxico had in his first 3 years. He's not getting Larry Fitzgerald money from the Steelers or from any other team. You can't blame him from not signing a 1 year tender what if he gets hurt this season before getting a long term contract. Based on contracts that Pierre Garcon, Vincent Jackson, Desean Jackson got Wallace probably won't sign for less than 50 million.

The Steelers will make him a fair offer. Either he accepts it or he takes the tender. He could hold out, but that would just drop his value the longer he holds out.

Wrong! Troy could have gotten a ton more money on the open market. Same for Woodley and Harrison. Compare.

Damarcus Ware- 7 years 79 mill vs. Harrison 6 years- 51 mill and Woodley 6 years- 60 mill and i'd be willing to bet that had they hit the open market they would have had a bigger contract than Ware's. Also Woodley played for 500k the last season of his contract. Ben's was the only one of that group that was close to getting market value.

The Steelers don't over pay for anyone. You all should know this. They are fair in negotiations but never over pay. Thats what makes us so good. We get players who believe in the organization and want to be a Steeler and will take a fair deal to do so, not break the bank. I'm sure the offer to Wallce is very fair.

Now i don't have a problem with Mike doing what he is doing. Thats his choice. Move on and we will too. I will have a problem when it becomes a distraction and we don't get anything for him.

By the way, Lets Go Pens! This is getting scary.

Maybe locking up Wallace long term is a blessing in disguise or he could tank once he gets his $.

Mike Wallace is doing what he should, I think this is kinda good for both sides because it gives them both a time frame from which to work. At worst, I dont think he will miss too much time once training camp begins. I really do think he wants to remain a Steeler but no one can begrudge him protecting his interests. This is not a panic issue at this point it is just something to keep an eye on. The anti Wallace sentiment at this point is overblown, not much about what we know of these negotiations seems unexpected.
